Master Crafter Gnome

Advice

Grand Lodge

So, in my pursuit to create varied, useful, replacement Gnome PCs, for a deadly RotR game, I have come to the Crafter. I need some help though.

So:

15 Point buy

Must be Gnome

Any Non-3rd Party Pathfinder Book allowed.

No Gunslinger, or Summoner.

Looking to craft, fast, and well.

Suggestions?

Any specific crafting you want to excell at, or just be an amazing crafter overall?

My favorite is Craft:alchemy for mundane craftine, magical crafting has its own gains.

Are we talking about magic item crafting or crafting of all kinds?

Grand Lodge

Magic Items.

Weapons, Armor, and Wondrous Items.

Why not build an inquisitor or urban ranger, or TWF with shields?

15 pt buy enchanter wiz:
Str: 8
Dex: 14 (5pts)
Con: 14 (2 pts)
Int: 16 (10 pts)
Wis: 12 (2 pts)
Cha: 9 (+4 pts)

Go craft happy, or go home!

Soul Forger Magus with Eldritch Heritage (Arcane) to get a Valet archetype familiar. Faster crafting than any other combo I'm aware of.

EDIT: Oh wait, Arcane Bond from the bloodline doesn't let you get a familiar if you already have a bonded item. Hmm. Nevermind, I guess.

Grand Lodge

Those are all different builds.

This one is to be Craft focused.

Enchanter?

Is that the best route for crafting magic items?

Grand Lodge

Is Wizard the best choice?

Forge master cleric. Work with your DM about the gnome part.

Bard so you can use any scroll from any class to create stuff from

Alchemist for pretty much the same reason, plus iconic RP.

Wizard has an arcane discovery called Arcane Builder that allows you craft one type of magic item 25% faster. I am not totally clear what "25% faster" means, but I speculate that it means you can craft 1250 gp a day of that type of item.

Besides that, any class with Spellcraft as a class skill is going to be good at item crafting.

My suggestion is use your feats for only Craft Arms and Armor and Craft Wondrous Item. The others are limited in their usefulness. If you go Wizard you will gain Scribe Scroll for free, which can be used to increase your spell options but also takes away from your craft time.

Do what you can to boost your Spellcraft skill. Take a trait that gives you a bonus to it, and even consider the Magical Aptitude feat if you have extra feats. You want Spellcraft high so that you can craft faster and still afford to ignore missing requirements. My level 10 crafting witch has a Spellcraft of +22 without any feat investment, but he also has the time to craft without rushing.

Convince a party member to take the Cooperative Crafting feat. If you can't do that consider taking a feat that gives you a cohort that can take the feat. With access to someone with that feat you cut the time crafting items in half. If you go the cohort route, dedicate them to item crafting and just have them stay in the workshop and out of combat.

If you have Arcane Builder, and someone with Cooperative Crafting you can craft 2500 gp a day or 5000 gp if you rush it.

Also, take the trait Hedge Magician, which reduces the gp required to craft any item by 5%, which will save you a little bit of money

No archetypes?

Straight Wizard, with the Arcane Builder Discovery?

What's most important, in regards to feat order?

Are there any alternate racial traits I should look into?

Alchemists don't qualify for the Craft feats unless they take the Master Craftsman feat. Alchemists are not considered spellcasters without house rules.

Wizard with Alchemist (Mindchemist) dip. Scribe scroll and brew potion for free. Mutagen increases intelligence.

There isn't an archetype that will help you with general item crafting. There are a couple that deal with scrolls for the wizard, so if you want to focus on scrolls you could look into those.

Dipping or multi-classing will only help you by providing you with more spells and class abilities to use when meeting crafting requirements. I guess you could go Mystic Theurge if you want to avoid too much of the +5 to crafting DCs for not having a spell requirement from time to time, but keeping your Spellcraft high is meant to help you in offsetting that.

As for feat order, Craft Wondrous Item is more useful than Craft Arms and Armor, so take that as soon as you can and then grab Craft Arms and Armor next. Use your wizards bonus feat at level 5 to grab Arcane Builder and apply it to Wondrous items. You could use your feat at first level to boost Spellcraft if you wish.

I haven't really looked into alternate racial traits and don't have the time now, but I can get back to you on that.

Potions are pretty much covered.

It is pretty much the only thing the DM likes to throw at us.

If you are going gnome there really aren't any racial traits that will help you craft better but if you have the Master Tinker trait you are proficent with all weapons you craft yourself, which could be really handy.

Go with the Arcanium crafter universalist wizard. It will give you an extra feat and make it easier to use metamagic feats in crafting. (see Inner Sea Primer for details)

Also there are some new features about Magic Item crafting in the Ultimate Campaign book on Weds.

and for useful racial items look in the Advanced Races book in the section on gnomes for the Amazing Tools Of Manufacture and Ring Of Craft Magic.

Here is a link to the Arcanium Crafter.

It gives you a bonus feat, which is great, and a +2 to the craft check made in the crafting process under certain circumstances. A pretty good archetype if you go the wizard route.

Grand Lodge

Thank you all very much.

This will give me a great start.
