Strange, but I can't decide if it is good or bad to have The Eye of The Krow focused upon you....

It could be that instead of working on Sudden Death Rounds, I was working on my 'Ultimate Plan to put Keovar and Bringslite to Work,' uh, plan.

Ouch! Big mouth yields tall orders!

Goblin Squad Member

Take that challenge, big man. I'd love to see you start a thread to actually do this. :)

Goblin Squad Member

We do already agree that there will be an alignment system.... There is a starting point. It just gets soooo nasty after that.

But, seriously, let's not start that here. :)

Goblin Squad Member

No worries, I'm sure I can come up with something just as devious, Mr. Lite! :)

Goblin Squad Member

Bringslite wrote:

To be honest, I'm not sure you can really count on even that much.

I like you too much to put you through that kind of roasting.

Goblin Squad Member

Awww, Hobs! You are a shining example of good will. :)

Or is it all the devilish plotting of an evil mastermind, lulling you into a false sense of security while concealing my plans of world domination behind smoke screens of community networking, new player guidance, and a supposed aversion to PvP?

Well, that's certainly a shifty-looking avatar you have. What secrets are you hiding that might make us blue?

Goblin Squad Member

Shh...if I answered that, I wouldn't be getting away with anything.

What kind of real Mastermind Villain needs a recording for his laugh? You give yourself away Sir. :)

A lazy one?

... What? Everyone needs a minion army!

Goblin Squad Member

Well my friend, if you are such, you have me fooled. Bravo! :)

Edit: Lol. A Lazy Mastermind pitted against easily fooled foes... What a game!

First we'd have to hash out Determinism vs. Free Will, and the implications of existing in a world where even the most strictly roleplayed characters who never break the 4th wall are still ultimately controlled by an external mind. :P

This surely assumes that the external mind controlling the strictly rp'ed characters isn't also in itself a strictly rp'ed character being controlled by an external mind in its own right. It therefore requires before we can even consider free will vs determinism a method for identifying when we reach the ultimate external mind in this procession in order that we can gain enough information to speculate on the probability of free will.

I'm just talking about the layers we have evidence for. We know game characters are controlled by external minds, because we (humanity) did it and it's a very testable claim. I don't think there's any credible evidence for a layer outside of us, though. Evidence indicates that if the brain changes, the person changes, so there's no reason to appeal to mind/body dualism. Positing undetectable and unfalsifiable motive forces is what leads to the problem of infinite regress, since we can always posit another layer. Time to apply Occam's Razor, I think.

Anyway, I was mostly kidding... while drawing a parallel between how the "alignment argument" can fill a lot of time & threadspace while never being resolved, and a similar line of conversation that comes up in other communities prone to arguing over details.
I'm an organizer for a Meetup group where science, philosophy, etc. are often discussed, and the "determinism debate" has the same ability to get everyone talking, but I try not to use it. It's not as if anyone is really arguing for absolute non-causal free will either; we mostly agree but are picking over detail and nuance. The alignment argument and determinism debate are both very effective trolling topics, in the old Usenet sense of the term when you just wanted to spark activity without necessarily being a jerk about it. Even for 'veterans' of many prior discussions of the type, it's hard not to get drawn in.

The question is from the inside of the game would there be compelling evidence that an outside does exist? Besides server down time that is ;)

Sure, there's the deus deceptor/Matrix problem, but I think the evidence which, in our world, indicates that "the mind is what the brain does" could indicate the opposite for those in Golarion. There would be practically no correlation between what has happened to the character in the past and how they express their sense of self afterward. For example, they can take repeated blows to the head (or whatever other part) and their persona and sense of identity isn't significantly changed by it. Strictly-roleplayed characters who never make _any_ form of OOC communication are likely to be vanishingly rare. If everyone around you makes references to ideas alien to your world, and does so in ways that are consistent and which others understand, you'd have to wonder where all of that information is coming from. Then there are the communication problems to account for: server crashes, connection loss, and users running off to the bathroom. People lose consciousness and temporarily lose their ability to act in the real world, but there's usually an observable reason for it, they don't tend to randomly go catatonic when they otherwise seem to be up and feeling fine.

So it seems I went around things in a backwards fashion. However, I would like to say hello and that I submitted my application on the Pax website a few days ago and have posted there a couple times. I am having a great time getting to know all of you a little, its kind of sad but I've said more here and on Pax than I did in several years of playing WoW.

So back to the point at hand, I initially became interested to become a member of PAX Aeternum because I saw that you would have a designated part for crafting/merchants then as I got to looking around and reading some more, I liked the "we wont kill you because we are good and you are evil" settlement. All the talk of the vote of doom has me curious but not so much that I want to know this soon.

Thanks for reading if you made it this far. I hope I don't derail the conversation too much.

We're off the philosophy bender? Cool!

Welcome, Clovis! Don't stress about the Vote of Doom - just don't break anything between now and then, and don't get between... well, between anyone and the booze.

Hello Fanndis

Unfortunately we did some some updates to our website a couple of days ago and it has affected adversely a lot of our systems. I will email the admins immediately about your problem and it should be sorted out soon(I would expect no more than 24 hours and probably a lot sooner)

In the meantime greetings from your opposite number in Aeternum and please feel free to PM me here.

Greetings to the inimitable Kingdom of Aeternum: Pax Gaming,

I'm going to reach out to you guys with a consideration: Crowdforging: A Confederation of Communities

I'd be most grateful if Kingdom-of-Aeternum-Pax-Gaming could have a look through this early draft and have a think about it's possible merits and where it might align with your goals and aspirations.

Please feel free to post in that thread, at any time, if you feel there is something serious to consider here.

Respectfully, AO.

We're in discussions already, no worries on that score! Thanks for starting the conversation; as we early adopters have a strong desire to see PfO succeed, it's very much worth discussing such things early rather than late.

Just leaving a note here for Pax, friends, and other.

Since Dak Thunderkeg will not make it to launch as a character, and there is another Dak in this community, I have decided to default to my nickname.

Charlie George is Dak Thunderkeg is Dakark. This change is intentional.
