PFS / Adventure Path questions.

Okay, so I know there's generally one 'area' in a given Adventure Path set up for PFS reporting; but it mentions that otherwise, you can run through an AP with PFS characters. How exactly does this balance out? Namely, money, gear, and experience.. I found the explanation in the Guide a bit vague and confusing.

Check the additional resources for the rules for the specific AP you are running. I have the Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition and it says all players must use a PFS character in the sanctioned portions of the AP. It also says you can use a pregen if you don't have a character of the appropriate level. It does not appear to say that you can play the PFS characters in any other part of the campaign. You don't get a chronicle sheet for any other parts. However, it does say that you can alternatively play through a home game without any PFS rules and claim credit from your GM as if you had played through with a pregen.

So it looks like you must either:

a) Play the entire AP in your home game with your home game character and apply the credit from the sanctioned parts to your PFS character as if it was pregen credit
b) Play the unsanctioned parts with your home game character and play your PFS character when you get to the sanctioned parts

Very succinct, Robert - thanks on behalf of everyone that gets a little muddled over this question! I'm getting ready to run Shattered Star as a home-style game for PFS credit in the next couple of months, and this took me more time than I'd like to admit to muddle through myself. Hopefully people can search-fu this and get such a measured answer.

Close, but it's actually not that complex. Your choices are this:

1. Play the entire AP as a home game. After each book, get a chronicle that you apply to the PFS character of your choice (treat it as GM credit re: rules for applying (but you can still get it once for running and once for playing)).

2. Play the sanctioned portion of the AP with a legal PFS character, and get a chronicle for that character.

The idea is you can either run the APs at home and get PFS credit, or you can run the sanctioned sections at game days with PFS characters.

Thanks for the input! I've said it before; but I'm so glad the Paizo forums have actual designers/creators/etc who read and respond.

None of the people who replied to this thread are, but they do read the boards (See the myriad of posts from Mike, Mark and John now). :)

Any idea if credit for these is retroactive? I am currently running Serpent Skull, and expect another 15 months until we are finished. I hope by that time that it is sanctioned. Will I be able to claim GM credit for I, and offer credit to my players?

It won't be sanctioned retroactively. You will only be able to do PFS credit for anything you complete AFTER that adventure path is sanctioned.

I am currently running the Skull and Shackles AP and just finished the first book. Can I claim GM credit for it if none of my players are claiming PFS credit?

I think the reporting system will allow you to register a table with a GM but no players. That said, I personally would download PFS numbers and assign them to your players. If they use them later, awesome. If not, no harm done.

There is a button on the GM/Event Coordinator tab of the My Pathfinder Society page where you can reserve 10 numbers. Do so, take note of the numbers and tell your players that if they ever want to sign up for the PFS, you have numbers for them.
