Watching Paizo drive itself into a ditch is not fun. :(

So, I had a PFS Game Saturday and a local game Yesterday. During the PFS game, my ranger hit 7th level. Pittsburgh's VC decided to redeem all the deferred chronicle sheets. My 7th level ranger is now 11th level. So much money to spend. What to do, what to do?

I am confused by your OP speak....

This may interest a few of you...

So I am putting together a one shot/ pick up game for the groups I play in...

Pretty the idea is centered around the Pcs being a special unit with in the Absalom police force that deal with the 'Adventurer Problem'. The PCs are called in to deal with adventurers getting out of control...to investigate crimes involving adventures...to clean up the merrier adventurers sometimes leave...etc.

Pathfinder...though I could easily adapt the concept to StarFinder/ Absalom Station...mmmm...

Not so much as overpowered as simply waiting. When my Ranger was low-level, I'd have to use pregen characters for the higher-level games. Rather that cashing in those Chronicle sheets, I held on to them until my Ranger hit 7th level. By "cashing them in," I gained 4 levels

What are some "character creation" pitfalls you have found in Starfinder?

Oh, right. That. Well, I have to get my gameplay somehow. I can't really play every day, because my schedule is strange. And not many people play RPGs in my neighborhood.

Yes. Besides the Envoy. ;)

Actually, wouldn't the Envoy be a good option for a Phrenic Adept (Starfinder Core, p. 128)?

I don't see many pitfalls in character creation per se...

But I have not had that much experience with it yet...

Actually any of the archetypes would work well with Envoy as you are not giving up much...

I think the difference between a puddle and pond is one of duration...

And at a certain point the difference is but a drop...

Okay. Going in a different direction, ...

For my Against the Aeon Throne campaign (which, alas, has not yet started), do think giving my characters the following in addition to the 1,000 credits that characters normally get will cause problems?

Each character
Knife, Survival
Personal Comm (I know all armor have them, nice to have a spare)
Backpack, Industrial
A week field rations
Hygiene Kit
5x sets of normal clothes
2x Mark 1 healing serum
(236 credits; 4 bulk)

The healing serums are because my heroes do not have a Mystic.

That looks pretty good...especially the Hygiene Kit and outfits...I notice most players overlook those things.

Exactly my thinking. 1,000 doesn't go as far as one might think.

Is there something I should add?

Someone recently shared my write-up for Malcom Reynolds to facebook. I got a lot of criticism for it, but most of the commentators were on point.

The write-up I did represents Mal at 1st level (per my understanding of the thread that it was posted to), but when we first meet him, he is definitely not first level.

Here is the write-up I did.

Malcom Reynolds

Spoiler:

Mal was born on September 20, 2468, and was brought up on a ranch on the planet Shadow. Raised by his mother and "about 40 hands," Mal apparently received a fairly decent education growing up. Though Mal usually seems more practical than intellectual, he occasionally surprised his friends by displaying familiarity with a wide range of literature varying from the works of Shan Yu, a psychotic dictator, to poems by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. He, however, has no idea "who" Mona Lisa was.

Mal volunteered for the Independents army during the Unification War against the Alliance, gaining the rank of sergeant during that time. His second-in-command Zoë Alleyne Washburne was by his side for most of the war, surviving many dangerous conflicts with him, such as the Battle of Du-Khang in 2510 and a long winter campaign in New Kasmir where he commanded a platoon. Mal was also involved in the ground campaign during the Battle of Sturges, which according to Badger was the "bloodiest and shortest battle in all the war", although Mal considered it a distant second. Mal fought in many more battles, but the turning point for him and the Independents came with their physical and emotional defeat at the Battle of Serenity Valley on the planet Hera. (The Message, War Stories, Serenity: Those Left Behind)

After the war, Mal acquired his own ship, an old, broken and not flight-worthy 03-K64 Firefly-class transport whose previous owner was a man named Captain Harbatkin (and he never got around to changing the registration papers). He promptly named the ship Serenity. On board Serenity and during his various travels, Mal continued to wear his brown coat and wielded a standard issue officer's pistol, a Liberty Hammer, as his weapon of choice, a gun which he has had since the war and had modified extensively.

I would have also gone with soldier...

And during the show I would place him about 8 or 9...maybe 10.

Yes, and annoying limitation on how they do Starfinder Stats. You need a high primary for Resolve, but a character like Malcom Reynolds (who proved to be a match for the Operative Of Parliament) needs good stats in all areas.

Selene Spires wrote:

People are saying Envoy (due to his demonstrated leadership ability), but know your exessive love for the class.

I might suggest adding a few levels of Operative to reflect his post-war troubles.

How about Soldier 5/Operative 3.

I usually drink Long Island Ice Teas or some other form of a alcoholic drink.

Or Aleve.
