Damaging a stone wall (spell generated or otherwise)

Rules Questions

What are the rules using melee (or natural) weapons against walls made of stone. This is obviously most relevant to the spell created version since that's the time you'll be worried about when to smash it. The rules for ranged (half) and energy (half) are explicit, but the melee weapon rules are less clear. It states that the weapons must be designed for smashing stone (pick, hammer, etc), so a sword would be ineffective. What is ineffective? Half damage? And for natural attacks, I assume the same applies.

Greetings, fellow traveller.

Have you checked the Environment section in the PRD?

It gives you hardness and hp of different stone walls ect.

Ruyan.

Yeah I already have that information, my question is specific to melee weapons that are not designed for smashing, they are labelled as ineffective. What is ineffective, is it half damage?

Ineffective is no damage at all.

While you could say "Well, technically if I scratch the wall with my fingernails I can bring it down eventually!" for the purposes of the game it does nothing.

But ranged weapons are half? How does an arrow shot significantly damage a wall when a sword would only scratch it? Amusing.
