Alignments of goblin politicians

Advice

According to Goblins of Golarion, one of the most common ways for a goblin to become chief is to murder the current chief. Let's say there's a goblin PC in a group of ostensibly good players and these players need to create a diversion for something, or need a quick army for an attack and the goblin suggests enlisting the local goblin tribe to help, then proceeds to murder the chief and assume control. How tolerable would that be to good aligned characters?
Or let's say this goblin PC is trying to improve the goblin race. So he murders the chief of a tribe, assumes control, then teaches them how to be better (slightly less chaotic, and a smidge less evil). Would murder in the name of training goblins to be better be evil? If this is an established pattern for this character would he eventually slide to evil?

Alignment is not a straitjacket; it is a tool to generally understand a PC/NPC's overall outlook.

Anything else is a judgement call from the player/group/GM. The answer will vary according to the player/group/GM.

The idea that goblin politicians need be evil and use murder to achieve their goals is racist nonsense.

Down with Paizo!

Vive le Galt!

Liberty's Edge

Good PCs murder goblins all the time...I don't see where it would be any more evil...

I don't think of it as need to, I prefer to think of it as get to.

My opinion? Let the other players be appaled in the first of the events and then follow up with your explanation later; it'll be more entertaining to try to avoid their wrath/judgement.

Ok, goblin chief must die.

In practice what is difference between killing him and murdering him?

If killing using subterfuge is always evil, every thief who uses a sneak attack in the surprise round would be evil.

All murders are killing. Not all killing is murder.

Obviously the only solution is epic goblin duels for the fate of the tribe, nay, the world! Preferably in improbable places.

Bonus points if he yells "There can be only one!" when he wins.

Challenging the chief is not evil, but accomplishes the same goal. Intimidation is fun as well.

Im suprise no one said it yet.
Goblins have politicians?

Goblins have politicians?

Depends on how liberal one chooses to be with the definition.

IN ANDORAN!

Anyway, more seriously: Don't we see this come up with non-goblins too? Aren't there adventures where the PCs go take out the evil leader and assume control of his nation, and because they really do rule it fairly and kindly it's a Good act?

Seems like the same thing here, just with icky-looking balloon-headed quasi-savages. I see no particular problem with the general goal/action as outlined. Certain details might turn it evil, but as-is this seems like a noun-swap of stuff we've seen before and it was perfectly fine then.
