A keen old hag of a woman, Auntie Baltwin is neither caring nor compassionate. She keeps the kids in her orphanage and treats them for their illnesses, but she only does so for ancillary reasons. She hopes to earn a good chunk of coin by keeping the donated medicines and selling them on the black market, using her personal talents in healing to treat the children. Some of kids aren’t even orphans and are sent to recover under her care by wealthy merchants in the district. She sets a price according to what the family can pay, often inflating the price by 300% between favored and disliked families.

Eric, the scenario actually points out not all the kids orphans, if I'm not mistaken.
Not to mention, she detects as evil; that alone should be enough to refuse help from the Silver Crusade.

She does not have enough HD to register as Evil, despite her alignment being Evil. A paladin would detect her, but a regular spellcaster would not.

Scarab Sages

My bad. Time to read up on detect evil!
Still, for an order of Paladins, you'd think the first thing they'd do is detect evil, know she is evil, and refuse aid.
But yeah, she is evil, and her actions are mostly questionable.

Yup you guys are correct, went to read it again. Sorry for not correcting myself, I was going to but had to leave for 2 hours.

What leads you to believe that a Paladin can detect auras other casters cannot?

Eric, read my spoilered quotes directly from the scenario. It ain't an orphanage. Some of the kids are orphans, yes, but there are definitely non-orphans there, and she definitely gets paid by the parents of those kids, sometimes outrageous sums.

So, yes, she DOES get paid as a babysitter/nanny, even for some of the kids she sends out on jobs. Ain't no charity from that lady.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Since I can't seem to edit my previous post with updates. I'll just add them here.

Amara Li, everyone's favorite party host.
Colson Maldris, Eagle knight and all around stand up guy.
I'm still confused as to how to show Trade Prince Aaqir. I just use a plain puppet for him.
