Yeah just saw that Royal bank of Scotland after awarding there higher ups 100 million pound (Thats about $152,315,459.25) In bonuses 48 hours later firing 700 staff because there not making enough money. Tell me again how top brass arent getting overpaid?
And to think they could easily have simply awarded themselves half the bonus, and kept those 700 people on -- but that would be madness! These people are job creators! They deserve that extra money for creating negative 700 jobs!

Maybe not directly on-topic, but an interesting read here.

I find it very interesting that the "first and arguably foremost" factor identified by the author (ie, one all-encompassing middle-class) is also a very noteworthy trait of Japan, which shares with Iceland the very low crime rate (or at least a very pervasive feeling of safety).
I now wonder if it is a simple coincidence that both countries are islands pretty far from the nearest continent.
Note that the "encompassing middle-class" is an opinion of the citizens and not necessarily a reality (at least in Japan, I know it is more akin to a consensual illusion).
And, also in Japan, the price to pay for this feeling of safety is both suffocating social pressure AND xenophobia.

Well it's not like the ~200k per person would have been enough to...oh wait.

I just realized I take exception to the title. CEOs don't earn 354 times more than the average worker -- they're just paid that. That's really the point.
Great point. However, it doesn't really matter anymore, because the government is going to redistribute all the money, so we are all equal.
Finally, something is being done.

All the threads are active ALL THE TIME, and PMG + his minions have put a
lot of effort into making the board easy to use and navigate. You don't understand how this board works -- Look in the upper-right.
You can see all the 'Currently Active' threads using the navigation-tabs: << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | next > last >>

This seems relevant.

I can't help but wonder "what if" Obama had not admitted it?
Would it somehow be different?
