15-point buy, Level 5 start, Looking to make a Rage Prophet

Advice

Silver Crusade

Yes, I understand it is a less than sub-optimal class, but this is for a heavy RP campaign, and I want to play a Half-Orc Barbarian who has a HUGE Messiah Complex and has some divine powers to back it up.

So for those of you, who are game to help Let's start with the basics.

I want him to be adequate in combat (a Half-Orc messiah, can't get whipped in physical combat by some puny pinky)

I want him to be an ok Divine Caster (I don't care if he can't dominate the battlefield, I just want him to be able to do some cool things)

Thoughts for my point buy

STR 16 (13+2+1); DEX 12 (not sold on this); CON 15 (this is a must, I want to use Raging Vitality); INT 8; WIS 10; CHA 14

This isn't set in stone and I'm happy to consider all options.

Revelation Options I've considered (convince me of something else if you want)
Ancestor, Battle, Flame, Metal

Curse
Lame (no other option, I may not be choosing an optimal class, but having Rage Cycle abilities to cast when I've used up my Moments of Clarity is a must)

If you can help build me build a blueprint to 10 I'd greatly appreciate it

KEY INFO:
15-Point Buy

Class Build to a Rage Prophet

TBH, I have doubts about the feasibility of such a character in a 15 point buy game. You've nominally got at least three key stats (Charisma, Strength, and Consitution in no particular order). Losses in any one are likely to render you remarkably ineffective as a hitter, meat shield, or caster.

At a certain point it will depend on how optimized your fellow players are - you mentioned it was RP heavy.

My suggestion - focus on either casting or fighting. Dip into one while you specialize in another. Trying to do both meaningfully is likely to end badly. Of the two fighting is probably easier to achieve, since you don't suffer as much from lost caster levels and delayed spell access. Effectively you are using the oracle only for pregame buffing and rage cycling.

Hope this helps.

Silver Crusade

Well that's why I was looking at Ancestors.

Spirit Shield Revelation helps a bunch, And if I take Extra Revelation Feat at level 11, I've essentially got 10 rounds per day of +8, +4, +10 in STR, DEX and CON respectively.

Half Orc (15point buy)

Starting Stats

16 STR+2 Race
7 DEX
14 CON
9 WIS
16 CHA
10 INT

Progression
Traits Reactionary,Indomitable Faith

Lvl 1 Oracle(Nature mystery)
Revalation Natures Whispers, Feat Toughness
Lvl 2 Barbarian
Lvl 3 Oracle
Feat Weapon Focus
Lvl 4 Oracle
Revalation Bonded Mount
Lvl 5 Oracle
Feat Power Attack
Lvl 6 Barbarian
Rage Power Moment of Clarity
Lvl 7 Rage Prophet
Feat Beast Rider
Lvl 8 Rage Prophet
Lvl 9 Rage Prophet
Feat Forious Focus
Lvl 10 Rage prophet

Nature is the best mystery for you.Natures Whispers lets you dump dex and helps with your AC.Bonded Mount+ Beast Rider gives you the option of taking a Rhino(great Animal Companion by the way, check the stats on it) and also increases your level for it by +2 wich means you get it at full progression.

Put the stat increases from leveling into con or strenght.

Look at the Armored Hulk barbarian Archetype as well,it gives you heavy armor proficiency. In Mithral Plate you could apply your full Charisma Bonus to AC.

Spirit Shield and revalations like this are total crap at early levels.Remember that it gives an Armor Bonus that doesn't stack with physical armor.

I'd go 4 levels of Barbarian, 2 levels of Oracle, Rage Prophet and finished off with Barbarian.

I'd put the stats as STR 16 (14+2), Dex 13, Con 16 (15+1), Int 8, Wis 10, Chr 12. You won't need a 13 in Chr till you are 12 level and 14 when you 14th level so you will want put you level 8 and 12 stat boosts on Chr.

Pick Oracle Revelation that scale as that is all the rage prophet does. This gets the most out of your revelations. I'd look at the metal oracle and armored hulk barbarian. Haven't investigated that myself but it seems there might be some synergies there.

By the way, How did you come up with these numbers?

That wont work you need to be able to cast 2nd level divine spells to enter Rage Prophet so you need at least 4 levels of Oracle

Nothing worth mentioning, some bonuses to movement speed and +2 to fort saves. Other Mysteries are significantly better.Like Nature or Battle.

No, you only need 1st level divine spells. And really, a Rage Prophet gets the most benefit out of Self Buff and Healing spells, which means that a high casting stat is relatively unused.

Sorry I forgot to list the other revelation: Spirit of the Warrior which you can only take at level 11 (it doesn't specify if I need to be Oracle 11 or Character Level 11, so I may be wrong, if so Ancestors wouldn't be for me)

I really like that Nature build and having an exotic type mount would really be fun for the whole "Chosen Warrior/Prophet" theme.

You need to be Oracle level 11.Thats the difference between Class level and Character Level. In general unless a class ability specifically says its based on character level, only class levels count as prereqs.

Same goes for Rage Powers by the way.If a Rage Power has level 6 as prerequisite then you need to be Barbarian level 6 to take it.

If you think that then you are not realizing the full potential of this class.

At 7th level Rage Prophet you add your con modifier on top of your charisma modifier to calculate your spell DC's.

That is like the best ability the whole Prestige Class gets.

A well built Rage Prophet can get Spell DC's that can compete with the most focused specialists, but you need high Con and high Cha for it to work.Thats why Lore and Nature are the best mysteries for Rage Prophets, they help make a very MAD class less MAD and give additional benefits to having a high Charisma.
