At the moment the only Friday 8-12 slot me and my friends can play is the Shades of Ice - Part 1 - Written in Blood as we have already signed up to play The Temple of Empyreal Enlightenment on Sunday.
Is there another 1-5 scenario that can be added into the Friday 8-12 slot?
We don't mind playing 'Shades of Ice - Written in Blood' but would like to know if it ends on a cliffhanger, meaning the second part 'Exiles of Winter' must be played directly afterwards, or if it has a returning factor like The City of Strangers - Part 2.
We will be attending CrispyCon 2 weeks after the Uk Games Expo and they will hosting all 3 parts of the Shades of Ice Adventure Path. If 'Exiles of Winter' has a returning factor we will happily pick up the story and continue from there!

I've submitted a session of 'Mists of Mwangi' for Friday afternoon, but I now see that there's already a session of it scheduled on Friday morning (with plenty of spaces). Is it worth me switching to a different scenario? Any suggestions as to what?
My thoughts on the Blakros museum series is that almost everyone plays these early in their PFS career. Therefore you are almost certainly catering to mostly new players with Mists, and there are fewer of these around on Friday.
I would switch to a season 4 low level (or perhaps an older less well-known low level scenario). Rise? Temple? even the Disappeared in preference to Mists on the Friday.

Thanks for the advice; I might swap Severing Ties back in, or maybe one of the other season 4 1-5s. I don't know if I can edit this myself, or if I need to e-mail someone; I'll take a look this evening. Thanks.
All my other games have been up for just a couple of days and have exactly one person signed up. So that's a third of a legal table booked in already...
By the way, does anyone know how this gets arranged:
anyone volunteering five (Across the entire weekend) gets free accommodation at the Hilton Metropole

No, only Dave would know that, as we were well spread out.
It did however seem very much in demand last year. I know one of my tables didn't run the year before. Who knows what the bank holiday will do to footfall? I would make a fallback plan.
Aside: I think someone is running a module this year too, which cannot be/is not on the schedule, so that would account for another few bookings.

It's difficult to really compare with last year. The presence of modules. Lihr now converted to Pathfinder, the new venue and other factors are having an impact. Last year we were full on the Friday and Saturday - I think I even ran an additional game - but Sunday there was a noticeable drop with some fully booked games not running due to no shows.

wellard - Sanos Abduction is 3-7, the other two are 1-5. Have you got a preference for a scenario to play ? You don't know who the second player is, do you ?
Ideally I'd like to do the Sanos Abduction..and I have no idea who the second player is.
However as Mythrasus states above you could get walk ins to fill the seats with a bit off luck

Yep, accommodation. Generally my friends have rented out a flat for the weekend so parking isn't a problem. Yeah, as usual the cheapest thing there is the admission.

Dave: will you be doing session reporting for the event, and providing pregenerated PFS numbers? Just trying to work out what I need to bring myself in terms of session sheets, pregenerated PFS numbers, etc.
I'm happy to do the reporting afterwards. My access to a printer is very limited (as I have none at home and I've been out of the country a lot) so if somebody else can print things I'd appreciate it. Otherwise I can try and get some stuff printed tomorrow (Thursday) but no guarantees.

Brief report:
According to their Facebook page UK Games Expo had roughly a 50% rise in attendance (people days) to 5750, and a 25% rise in unique attendees to 3500. Talking to one of the organisers trade takings were way up on last year - up to last year’s weekend total by mid-Saturday. A great commercial success.
PFS had only a 20% rise in tables to 36. As all tables had to be pre-booked, this was due to a scarcity of GMs who could commit in advance (possibly due to it being a long bank-holiday weekend and close to another PFS convention). However there were more none-PFS pathfinder games around than last year.
Negatives:
Three of my six tables were oversold by the organisers, leading to 7 player tables. There were clearly other 7 player tables around too. Rumoured to be due to no-shows of non-PFS GMs, but not acceptable.
There was much grumbling about food and drink prices and lack of bar staff available in the new venue. They were typical UK hotel prices (very expensive) though a specially laid on food hall provided slightly less expensive gamer fare.
The temperature in the PFS room rose steadily to sweltering levels during Friday, though this seemed to be fixed on Saturday and Sunday.
Positives
Plenty of new player numbers were handed out.
From what I saw all PFS games went off smoothly.
Expo has one of the best GM rewards programme of any UK con, with free accommodation for those running 5 or more slots, and free entry and a small cash allowance for all GMs.
Accommodation prices were pretty reasonable for a UK hotel, and there were other cheaper options around the hotel (though more expensive than some of the really cheap downmarket hotels around the previous venue).

Thanks for the report sounds like a fun time was had by all.
From what I heard the hotel prices were reasonable for a very expensive hotel, but with no options for regular priced stays without booking well in advance.

Sounds about right - if you booked near to the con and wanted to get in the Hilton.
When I looked a few days before, at least one NEC hotel was showing on Laterooms around the £50 per night mark. The Hilton was showing on laterooms a few weeks before at similar to con pre-booking prices. So last minute you could get in at least nearby reasonably.

That's good, and that's a reasonable price.
Sounds like a good time was had by all. I know my friends that did make it had fun, finding Saturday packed and Sunday a bit less congested.

I intend to write up my thoughts in full this evening, but just to respond to one point:

I know that one PFS GM who had games on the web site couldn't make it in the end; I don't know what the contingency plan was for those people who had signed up for them.
None of my sessions had more than six players. A couple of them had 8 people sat round the table, but that was due to a friend or relative that wasn't playing or couldn't get a space so just watched instead. I was tempted in one case to let them join, but the scenario was a long one which would've been made even longer, and I didn't want anyone to get into trouble for playing without a ticket.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Well it was, all in all, an enjoyable weekend..
FOOD
The food prices when you applied the attendee discount were not as bad as people thought..I was £21.00 for dinner on Sunday Night..and thats pretty reasonable for a 3 course meal in a UK Hotel mind you the £9.00 Fish Finger Sarnie wasn't reasonable at all.
ROOM
Comfortable enough given that I didnt spend much time in it outside of sleeping.
CON
Too many things tucked away into little corners though definitely not as bad as the Clarendon
I agree with the comments on the over sold tables. We essentially had 2 walk overs in the 4 games I played (7 players and playing down will do that).
As I won't be making Paizocon Uk this year it was a good time to catch up with people I haven't seen in nearly 2 years.I'll definitely be back next year..
