I have a cleric of Erastil, who's just reached level 4, and is entitled to an animal companion. I understand that there's a lot of things about animal companions from additional resources not being available to non-druids.
Anyway, I feel that getting a deer would be most appropriate. What's the closest legal choice for this character, or should I give up and find a different animal to bond with?

Animal Companion (Ex): At 4th level, you gain the service of an animal companion. Your effective druid level for this animal companion is equal to your cleric level – 3.
Your cleric doesn't have a restricted list of companions, so the character has the same choices a druid would have.

I can see a few appropriate choices:
Bestiary 2: Megaloceros
Bestiary 3: Antelope, Elk
Animal Archive: Moose

Obviously he should go with a moose, and then partner with a wizard with a flying squirrel familiar.

I would guess that the Cleric would be Boris, and a Dwarf, Gnome or Halfling, and the Wizard is Natasha, Human?
