Yep, it's amazing how much the quality of a spell can vary based on whether or not the caster's player actually reads its description. ;)

An immediate action uses up the swift action on your -next- turn, that is, unless you are casting it on the acting player. If you wait until the end of his turn, he'll be able to use it to escape.
But yeah, swift and immediate actions become much more important later on.
