I may be wrong, but somewhere I thought I read that a starting character might have ad many as 400 HP ( not sure if that is affective or actual).

If this is the case, what is base weapon damage to be like?

If a long sword for argument sake has the traditional 1- 10 damage, it sounds out of the realm of plausibility that it could take 40 maximum damage hits to kill a new character.

I will be upfront with my intentions, I'm trying to determine that viability of an "Alpha Strike" attack / tactic, and I'd like to know on average how many attackers would it take to kill a moderately skilled and armored player, instantly.

Traditional is 1-8, really. But still.
Seems hard to calculate with what we know, seems like a lot of factors can change things.
Let's see, just rereading the blog. Base damage at 40, assuming an attack and weapon share, say, 1-2 keywords, maybe more if you're starting out with your "strongest" attack, so upwards of 10-20, unless you're using Masterwork or other high tier, in which case more. I know you plan for your bandits to carry only what they can thread, so depends on if you focus that on weapon, armor, or in between.

Assuming medium armor, that's 18 resistance, plus say, 2-4 for keywords. More if they've got real good armor, of course.

Says longsword would be about 1.4 damage factor.

So, let's say 50 damage, vs. 22 resistance, that's 28.
Times 1.4 is 39.2.

Assuming you all exceed his save and therefore actually do 100% damage, you'd need at least 10 people, I guess.

This is assuming, I think, either medium or fairly low level stuff. You may well have better weapons and attacks, but they may have better armor and health, so. That's also with what we know for longswords. You might well use other weapons with either higher base damage (although I think those are planned to be "exotic"), or higher damage factor, which will do more of any damage that goes past armor.

I'd say start with 10, if you're really dedicated to alpha strikes (Alpha Strikes, eh? Screw that, tag 'em and bombard them with LRMs, way funnier than PPCs).

But yeah, assuming those numbers I just did we close to right, I'd say it may be hard. Of course, that's inside 6 seconds, so if you catch them off guard you might well finish them when the next 6 roll around.

Actually I came across the number that long sword has a base damage of 40. But still that would mean an alpha strike could take up to 10, and that is using a long sword, which is not your typical alpha strike class of weapon.

Alpha Strikes are usually ranged attacks.

NARC, Tag,3 -C4's with ALRM20s. Done. Just need to watch out for those darn -3Ls.

10 folks concentrating on a single target 'should' be able to take them down in a couple good hits. The question is can you get 10 people on the same target all at once? If everyone were using a bow, then sure, but it's hard to pack 10 people in melee around a single target. This does raise the ugly specter of damage projection and blob warfare, though. in a sandbox there's not usually a hard cap on how many folks you can bring to the fight.
