No Requests for Deity Stat Blocks Please.

Explanation:

Now you notice I call out that No Deity Stat Block Requests. What I am thinking for this is IF they decided to make this type of book:

The information would be just like the Table in the CRB's Cleric Chapter. Though expanded to include Sub-Domains & Inquisitions.

What would you like to see in such a book?

Such as:
How would you like it to be arranged?
What Pantheons would you want detailed?
Archetype, Prc, Feats, Items, Etc ideas?

NOTE: This is also to get a measure of the amount of interest the Book might have.

I personally would like to see:

Chapter 1: Golarion Deities. Including the Racial Deities and such.
Chapters 2-X: Various Real World Pantheons as they would appear in a Pathfinder Gaming World.
Chapter X+1: Guidelines for Homebrewing your own Pantheon.
Chapter X+2: Various PrCs, Archetypes, etc that connect to the deities.

Hellenistic(Greco-Roman), Nordic, and Japanese Pantheons covered.

A Templar Archetype or PrC. Like a Templar Archetype for Fighters or such. Maybe an Archetype that gives Fighters a 4-Level Spell Progression or such. Similar to the Ranger or Paladin but with Arcane Spells maybe limited to Followers of Odin or Deities with the Magic Domain.

Liberty's Edge

I would like to see words in this book.

That's pretty much my only request. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

No specific Pantheon Requests, Archetypes, or such...?

Liberty's Edge

Nothing specific, no, but that's mostly because Paizo very rarely disappoints me in such things; if they put the product on the schedule, I'm pretty sure I'd like whatever wound up showing up inside.

Your list is a good one, though, with the exception that I'm not sure that this is the right place for a caster-fighter.

As long as it covered the Roman-Hellenic pantheon, I'd be able to convert Xcrawl, and that'd be enough for me to be happy. :D

I was thinking of it as something akin to the legends surrounding the Einherjar who were warriors who were brought to Valhalla to Fight beside Odin during Ragnarok and while there were taught Magic to aid them in Battle.

Basically it would be mostly Buffs & Minor Damage Spells.

There is a Paizo book, Gods and Magic, but it could really use some updating and fleshing out. If this is some kind of 3rd party thing, then it would be nice to see Greek/Roman, Egyptian, Native American, and Celtic pantheons represented/defined in Pathfinder terms. I still haven't seen a satisfactory translation of the 3.5 Spirit Shaman from Complete Divine yet.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I would be happy to see every Deity worshiped in Golarian, and nothing beyond that.

Liberty's Edge

Such a book would be an excellent opportunity to update some of the material from Gods and Magic, actually. Getting Pathfinder RPG compliant versions of the crunch in that book would be most welcome.

I am thinking of it as more along the lines of a Wishlist that Paizo can look at.

If they really don't want to do this type of book the I might take up the Challenge.

@Vod: Not all Campaigns can use the Golarion Deities.

@Ursineoddity: I have designed a Spirit Shaman Alternate Class based on a Spontaneous Druid Concept.

Liberty's Edge

I would love to see guidelines on homebrewing your own pantheon. So far I have been doing it and fairly well based on the fact I have people following gods. I just would love to see something a little more fleshed out.

Archetypes that are deity specific would also be good. That is another thing I have been toying with along with deity specific prestige classes.

I would love to see more deity related magic items. Really I would love to see a lot of things as I tend to mine my 3.5 books for divine related things for my players as over half my table chose to play divinely inspired characters. This leads to me sitting dow to try and figure out what I can do to help them with their quest to play characters on a divine mission

South American Pantheon! Inca, Aztec, and Maya!

Hey Flamehawke long time no see...

I am thinking that this would go over well especially with Wrath of the Righteous coming up.

So you could build Divine Characters that are more Thematic.

@Azaelas, You asked what I wanted. I answered. I would rather see in depth coverage of the Golarion Deities, than stuffing the book with all sorts of other Deities, especially real world Deities that I can find more and better information than what they could put in their book. There are 417 Deities, philosophies, etc listed on the PathfinderWiki: Religion of Golorion page. At one page each, that makes for a mighty big book, how many more Pantheons do you want to add?

Abadar, Abraxus, Acavna, Achaekek, Aegirran, Aesdurath, Agnosticism, Ahriman, Aizen Myo-o, Ajids, Alazhra, Aldinach, Alichino, Alocer, Alseta, Amaznen, Ancestor worship, Ancestral guardians, Ancestral Spirits, Andirifkhu, Andoletta, Angazhan, Angradd, Animism, Anogetz, Aolar, Apep, Apollyon, Apsu, Arazni, Ardad Lili, Areshkagal, Arlachramas, Aroden, Arshea, Ashava, Asmodeus, Astaroth, Asteria, Astrology, Atheism, Atonga, Atreia, Atropos, Ayrzul, Azathoth, Azghat, Azhia, Azulos, Baalzebul, Baphomet, Barbarica, Barbatos, Barzahk, Belial, Bergelmir, Besmara, Bifrons, Bokrug, Bolka, Braismois, Brigh, Cagnazzo, Calcabrina, Calistria, Camazotz, Cayden Cailean, Cernunnos, Ceyanan, Chadali, Chaldira Zuzaristan, Chamidu, Charon, Chavazvug, Chavod, Child-goddess, Circiatto, Cixyron, Cocidius, Common Rule, Communism, Connla, Corosbel, Count Ranalc, Crocell, Cthulhu, Curchanus, Cyth-V'sug, Daclau-Sar, Dagon, Dahak, Daikitsu, Dammar, Demogorgon, Deskari, Desna, Deumus, Dhalavei, Diabolism, Diceid, Diomazul, Dispater, Doloras, Draghignazzo, Dranngvit, Droskar, Druidism, Drulaema, Duellona, Ealdeez, Easivra, Eiseth, Eligos, Erastil, Erlang Shen, Eternal Emperor, Fandarra, Farfarello, Feronia, Findeladlara, Flauros, Folca, Folgrit, Fumeiyoshi, Furcas, Gaap, General Susumu, Geon, Geryon, Ghlaunder, Glasya-Labolas, Glorious Endeavor, Gogunta, Gorum, Gozreh, Graffiacane, Green Faith, Groetus, Gruhastha, Grundinnar, Gyronna, Haagenti, Haborym, Hadregash, Haggakal, Hanspur, Hastrikhal, Hastur, Hei Feng, Horeksim, Hors, Horseman of War, Hshurha, Iaozrael, Ibdurengian, Ibeji, Ichimeiyo, Ihys, Il'surrish, Imbrex, Imot, Inanna, Iomedae, Irori, Isph-Aun-Vuln, Itzamma, Izyagna, Jacarkas, Jegudiel, Jezelda, Jiraviddain, Jubilex, Juju, Kabriri, Kalma, Kalvakus, Kelizandri, Kelumarion, Ketephys, Khepri, Kitumu , Kofusachi, Kols, Korada, Kostchtchie, Kurgess, Lada, Lady Nanbyo, Lady Taramyth, Lahkgya, Laivatiniel, Lamashtu, Lao Shu Po, Làu Kiritsu, Laws of Man, Lergeni astrology, Libicocco, Likha, Lissala, Llamolaek, Loa spirits, Lorcan, Lord of Entropy, Lord of the Insane, Lugus, Lysianassa, Lyutheria, Maahes, Magdh, Magnimarian Mystery Cults, Magrim, Mahathallah, Malacoda, Malthus, Mammon, Mazmezz, Melek Taus, Menxyr, Mephistopheles, Mestama, Mhar, Mharah, Milani, Minderhal, Mneoc, Moloch, Morlock Ancestor Gods, Mother of Tongues, Mother Vulture, Mrtyu, Murnath, Muyingwa, Naderi, Nahemah, Nalinivati, Nalmungder, Namzaruum, Narakaas, Narriseminek, Nergal, Nethys, Ng, Nivi Rhombodazzle, Nocticula, Norgorber, Nurgal, Nyarlathotep, Oaur-Ooung, Ogma, Ogoun, Oinodaemon, Oni philosophy, Orc cults, Orcus, Orgesh, Oro, Orobas, Ortaro, Ose, Osolmyr, Ovonovo, Pantheism, Pao-Lung, Pavnuri, Pazuzu, Peacock Spirit, Perbov, Pharasma, Pharasmin Penitence, Philosophy, Phlegyas, Pirias, Prathos, Prophecies of Kalistrade, Pulura, Qetesh, Qi Zhong, Quindiovatos, Radigost, Ragadahn, Ragathiel, Ranginori, Raumya, Razmir, Rheth, Roidira, Roqorolos, Roshmolem, Rovagug, Ruapceras, Rubicante, Ruzel, Sabnach, Sairazul, Salaphiel, Saloc, Sandalphon, Sangpotshi, Sarenrae, Scarmiglione, Secularism, Seven Virtues of Rule, Shamanism, Shamira, Shax, Sheave, Shei Five Dawns, Shelyn, Shemhazai, Shiggarreb, Shimye-Magalla, Shivaska, Shizuru, Shoanti totemism, Shrine of the Failed, Shub-Niggurath, Shumbauth, Shyka, Sifkesh, Sinashakti, Sithhud, Sivanah, Sixlife, Skode, Skrymir, Slandrais, Socothbenoth, Soralyon, Speakers of the Depths, Spiritual awareness, Ssila'meshnik, Stygidvod, Sun and moon worship, Sun Wukong, Suyuddha, Svarozic, Szuriel, Tahmineh, Tamashigo, Tamede, Tanit, Teshallas, Thamir Gixx, The Forgotten, The Green Mother, The Lantern King, The Lost Prince, The Nightripper, The Pale Horse, Thremyr, Thuskchoon, Tiamat, Titivilus, Tjasse, Tolc, Torag, Totem spirits, Treerazer, Trelmarixian, Tresmalvos, Trudd, Tsukiyo, Tsukuyomi, Tychilarius, Uaransaph, Urazra, Urgathoa, Uriel, Uruskreil, Urxehl, Valani, Vale, Vapula, Venkelvore, Vikramaditya, Vineshvakhi, Vois, Vorasha, Vritra, Vyriavaxus, Wadjet, Walkena, Walks with Golden Stars, Watcher in the Wheel, Wendo, Whispering Way , White Feather, Wylgart, Xaphan, Xar-Azmak, Xhamen-Dor, Xhasnaphar, Xoveron, Xsistaid, Yaezhing, Yamasoth, Yamatsumi, Yan-gant-y-tan, Ydersius, Yhidothrus, Ylimancha, Ymeri, Yog-Sothoth, Yrsinius, Yuelral, Zaebos, Zagan, Zaigasnar, Zarongel, Zelishkar, Zepar, Zevgavizeb, Zogmugot, Zon-Kuthon, Zura, Zursvaater, Zyphus

I know I am just saying Not every campaign can use Golarion Deities.

I guess I should specify I am just wanting them covered just as a Tie-In to Pathfinder.

Then they can release a Campaign Setting Book that details all the Religions of Golarion. Maybe something akin to the "Faith of..." Books or a massive Hardback book detailing the Religions.

The Book I am suggesting would be part of the Core Ruleset not the Campaign Setting.

Basically for the Golarion section I am thinking of the CRB list with some of the other Major Deities called out. Maybe even a detailing of Aroden for those who want to play a Pre-Death Golarion Campaign.

Hmm... I might just make some to distribute...

Liberty's Edge

I have to agree on that point Azaelas. I saw that book and loved the idea of it and the idea we could build more Divine Characters without resorting to Paladins, Clerics, Druids, and Rangers.

What I have done with Archetypes thus far that has been fairly popular at my table is I swapped around mercies a bit to fit the deity more and I made an option to take a different animal for the Divine Bond.

For the mercies I left the ones most people think of when they think of a paladin and swapped out others to fit the god in question. I also put in a second animal as fit the god. So you could have a horse or an animal that was the same as your god's divine animal.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I am not interested in a "generic" Deities book. If I am making my own world, I will make my own Deities.

I allow Paladins to pick any animal they can ride as a Mount. Whether they must work for their Preferred Mount or not is a different story.

But having a Favoured Animal for each Deity would be awesome.

First and foremost I would want this as a hard cover to organize the dirge of information that all ready exists. Such as the material seen in Faiths of Purity, Faiths of Balance, Faiths of Corruption, Gods and Magic, Champions of Purity, Faiths and Philosophies, The Great Beyond: the Gude to the Multiverse, Chronicle of the Righteous, Book of the Damned Volume 1, Book of the Damned Volume 2, The Book of the Damned Volume 3. This doesn't even include all of the information provided in the adventure paths and other sources that Paizo puts out!

Personally, just having some of this information in one place in hardback form would be a great boon. And as I look in the Ennie Award Winning PathfinderWiki their is still a lot of red links in Religion section and some of the minor dieties could be used to flesh out the book as well as deities from other areas (such as the Vudran and Dragon Empires).

Quite frankly if it just served to compile all the information we have now and fill in some of the blanks as to the other deities that would be more than enough for me. Sprinkle in some feats, spells, deity specific archetypes, as well as deity specific magic items/artifacts and this would certainly be a must buy.

Edit: Also rules/guidelines on a do-it-yourself pantheon with example taken using real life deities from Norse, South American, and Greco-Roman Pantheons would be a plus.

Like I said I am thinking of this as a Book for the Core Ruleset. The rest would be better in a Campaign Setting Book. So what do people want in a General Book?

I might need to start building these for a 3PP Book.

Liberty's Edge

Animal Archive actually list animals associated with various deities for Golarian. I pretty much had been running with that for all divine classes. I simply added them in to the deity specific archetypes as an option. My players loved the idea of having their paladin walking around with the same animal that their deity travels around with.

@Vod I will say personally we don't need a lot, but the idea of giving us a go to book for the main deities mentioned in the CRB and maybe a little more on ones that people are really interested in would be nice. For those that homebrew an idea of how they select theme, symbol, alignment, domains and how to handle the flavor text would be very nice.

Shadow Lodge

Paizo has yet to really publish anything that isn't directly usable in their own Goarion campaign. As such, I doubt there will be a book that includes various Earth mythologies.

I have a feeling that if plenty of people show interest they might just make it.

Though I do think a book more like what Vod mentioned would be first.

Liberty's Edge

My question Azaelas is if you started to put one together what information would you work on first?

I admit to being very curious after the Agent of Light/Darkness that was done awhile back

Probably the Hellenistic Pantheon as that is the one I would be using immediately. Then the Nordic. Then whichever people wanted to see the most...

You might see a Pantheon thread from me before to long.

NOTE: When I say Pantheons I am meaning the Deities, Artifacts, Items, Archetypes, Etc that are connected with said Pantheon.

Liberty's Edge

That makes sense. I might be able toss in some. I based my current campaign off various real world areas. Partly due to my heavy interest in various gods. I am still uncertain if they are good, but my players seem to disagree with me.

So I can share what little I pulled together and possibly help since I finally went into making Archetypes. Most of it is for my deities but it is easy enough for me to reskin due to the deities had very specific things I wanted for those mercy swaps and such

I am even thinking of a Shield Add-On based on the Curtains they used. Maybe have it increase a Light & Heavy Shield's Shield to AC by 1 against Arrows & Bolts. Maybe even Darts and such.

Vod Canockers wrote:

That is exactly what I would want from such a book--rules and advice for creating deities. Nothing more.

i'll be honest, i have never seen a player-made diety/homebrew/anything for that matter that was better then any published book.

especially if i'm a player, the last thing i want for my divine class is a homebrew deity.

but i would buy this book in a heartbeat as per i adore divine classes.

i would also like to see other divine options for fae lords, demon lords, devil lords, angelic counterparts, and class variants that twist the cleric class similar to a sorcerer based on the god/lord you might choose.

It would basically a method for a GM to pick up a Pantheon that could help with their Homebrew's feel.

But if I designed it then it would have tons of Content for building Divine Characters. Like a False Prophet or some such. Maybe a Thaumaturge Alternate Class for the Wizard or Cleric.

I am thinking I will build a book and include a "Vestige" System. Especially since a surprising number of Religions can be described as this.

Game details (domains and favoured weapons) for pantheons like Celtic, Greek, Roman, Chinese, Aztec, Norse...etc. Absolutely no stat blocks for them though.

I'd love to see stats for Golarion deities, or their avatars. Not sure about the other pantheons though. Eric Mona has said he doesn't want to rehash DnD with Pathfinder.

Other than that, maybe divine servitors? Heralds, that sort of thing? I thought The Divine and the Defeated by Sword and Sorcery was fantastic. The Book of the Righteous by Green Ronin was another marvelous (even though stat free) book on deities and a pantheon. Anything of that level of detail would be fantastic.

I personally prefer not having Deity Stated up like a PC or Monster...

Maybe a new type of Stat Block? Something similar to the Settlement Stat Blocks for the Deity.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Greek, Norse, Babylonian, Hindu, and Shinto. If room the Celestial Bureaucracy.

For a core rulebook thing, I would start start with a chapter based on p.65 of the Game Master's Guide for In Nomine.

Chapter 2 would discuss, in detail, the relationship between various classes and deities.

Chapter 3 would discuss divine interventions and miracles.

Chapter 4 would cover divine ascension.

Remaining chapters would cover worked examples, per the James Jacobs approach.

Something that might be nice is alternative divine systems. Using different pantheons doesn't seem all that difficult from Pathfinder norms, but what if the dominant religions in your setting are monotheistic? Dualist? Gnostic? etc

I agree with this, and its the primary reason why I think a Pathfinder Deities and Demigods is a bad idea. Most of the WotC version of the book was rules crunch for making Deity Stat Blocks. You'd basically be updating the real-world deity flavor in the back of the book, and that is an incredibly niche product; I use all of the deities that are likely to be covered in this book and I'd be hesitant to buy it for the same reason as Vod Canockers. On top of his reason, where would you put this book? Its not Settings Neutral; providing information about real-world deities implies that you have those deities as a focal point in your campaign, which means that its giving you content for a specific setting. On the other hand, those deities don't have a place in Pathfinder (yet) so it couldn't be a Campaign Setting Product.

I think Kitsune Knight's suggestion of making a compendium of all of the Deities and Demigods articles is probably the best one, but at the same time having a compendium infers that you aren't going to be producing new stuff on those topics, which is sort of weird for a living campaign setting to do in and of itself.

Honestly, I think the best option would be rules and ideas for creating gods and deities for a campaign world, using maybe one well-known real world Pantheon as an example. However, this ship appears to have sailed because James Jacobs confirmed that nothing like this is in Ultimate Campaign, and 'Ultimate' implies that Paizo's going to say all it ever well on the topic in this book.

I do not play in Golarian so their deities hold no interest for me. Nor do prestige classes, archetypes, etc. I would only have interest if they redid the 1E Deities and Demigods for Pathfinder. All I need is the basic info, ie domains, etc.

I doubt it. IIRC, Lisa commented once that one of the major TSR problems was a "fracturing" of the product line. In other words, presenting information not about a core world developed by the company. Producing a book like this would draw attention away from Golarion.

Ultimate Campaign might have some good "design your own" stuff, but I honestly would be very surprised if they went any further. Expect this from a 3PP before Paizo.

"Statting" up deities is simple, they all have infinity in each of their stats. They can cast all spells at will. If you attack them, you die.

Obviously this is specific to you, but WHY don't you use Pathfinder deities? Is it just because you don't like them? On top of that, you don't allow Prestige Classes? At ALL? What's your reason for that?

TL/DR, so I don't know if someone up-thread already mentioned, but I'd like part of the homebrewing to include guidelines on creating regional variants to Golarion gods. Ex:

In my homebrew I threw in a shrine on the side of the road; a little stone-roofed niche with symbols of a butterfly but called the Shrine of the Moon Caller. One of my players wanted to know more so I said the Moon Caller is an aspect of Desna and figured that was the end of it.

The PC has numerous ranks in Knowledge: Religion and wanted to know more still. We took it off-game and I basically re-stated what I'd said before. This led to a 10 minute discussion which didn't satify either of us revolving around the central question "why didn't they just call her 'Desna'?"

So a way to streamline that sort of situation would be nice.

Lastly there were some nice bits of fluff in the original 70's Deities & Demigods. Things like how particular temples were built, what they looked like, and colors/vestments/trappings of the deities. This would be kind of cool. For some reason I always have trouble envisioning whole temples/churches to any but a couple Golarian deities.

With the combination of the gods books we have already, plus Faiths, of Balance, Purity, and Corruption, I'm not sure what the book you're proposing will have that already isn't in print.

That's your opinion; other players have their own opinions. The difference is that you already have that set of "stats" whereas people who want non-infinite stats for deities keep being shouted down by everyone else who thinks that the mere existence of such a thing will somehow destroy their home game.

Vod Canockers wrote:

Except that's not accurate to many, or even most mythologies.

I'd add my voice to that asking for an updated, hardcover "Gods and Magic" that combines the original book by that name, info from the "Faiths of...." players companions, and the various writeups and articles that have appeared across the adventure paths. I'd stick with "full" writeups for the major deities, and maybe some smaller summaries for the various racial deities.

I also wouldn't object to a non-Golarion specific Deities and Demigods book with things like the major deities of the Greek/Roman, Norse, Hindu, Japanese, Native American, Egyptian, and Lovecraftian pantheons/deities/entities. But this sounds more like something likely to come from a third party, honestly.

I am just testing for who would be interested in such products now.

Though like I said a book like what Vod suggested would probably come first. All of the info from the previous Deity books and expanding it to include more information.

I will probably set out updating the Hellenistic (Greek, Roman, Macedonian, Byzantine, etc) Pantheon first.

The unfortunate Norse gods get maimed and killed in all sorts of colorful ways.

Some are unkillable like Osiris but can still be chopped up into lots of pieces and boxed away.

Perhaps after the Mythic Rules are released some of the mythic gods can be added to the outer planes as foes to be defeated. Human heroes in myth like Hercules can defeat gods and send them fleeing horribly wounded back to their homes.

Achilles and Ares from the Iliad are an excellent example of a god being wounded by a Hero.

And the Norse are excellent examples of getting slaughtered in unique ways.

& I am not to keen on the Mythic Rules as they were in the Playtest... I would have rather had them like the 3.5 3PP Paths of Heroism Supplement or how 4e handled their Paragon Paths and such.

& did I really just praise another thing from 4e!? I already say the Modular Enchantments and Residuum are nice but this!?

This.

"Public domain deities and demigods" would best be handled by 3pp for two reasons.

1) The OGL is designed to allow this. We don't need HP for Thor, or L Ron Hubbard. But if someone wants to make it, go ahead.

2) Paizo's inclusive policy would seem to preclude this. Even their 'near real' archtypes seem to be written. I doubt they'd be willing to stat Thor, any more than they'd want to stat G_d or Allah or Vishnu.
