So I decided to make a post about what Gods are allowed for PCs in PFS because we see a lot of posts on the subject. I am going to use the Guide and Additional Resources to make my list. For each God I will add what the source is and what Alignment the PC needs to be. Since Gods may be added later on I am making this a Doc you can get here. Feel free to post in this thread if you see any errors, I will update the doc accordingly.
First let’s go over the rules for religion in the Guide.
Characters can elect to worship any deity listed in a table of gods in the Core Rulebook, The Inner Sea World Guide, Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Gods and Magic, or any other source listed as an official Additional Resource.
It is important to note for the Core Rulebook, The Inner Sea World Guide, Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Gods and Magic the God must be listed on a table.
Characters may elect to worship an evil god, but must always be within one alignment step of their chosen deity.
No matter what class you are if you pick a god you must be within one alignment step of your chosen God.
Clerics, inquisitors, paladins, cavaliers of the order of the star, and samurai of the order of the star must choose a deity as all classes in Golarion that receive spells and abilities from a specific divine source receive their powers from a deity. Druids, oracles, and rangers are the exception to this rule. The list is not exhaustive, and divine spellcasters of any future classes whose sources are added as additional resources to the Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign will be required to choose a deity unless otherwise specified. Otherwise, characters who do not receive powers from a divine source may choose to be atheists or to have no deity at all.
So Clerics, inquisitors, paladins, cavaliers of the order of the star, samurai of the order of the star, and divine spellcasters of any future classes whose sources are added as additional resources (unless otherwise specified) are required to choose a deity. Druids, oracles, and rangers are the exception to this rule. Characters who do not receive powers from a divine source may choose to be atheists or to have no deity at all. This is fairly self-explanatory.
Now onto Gods that are allowed for PCs
First off the Guide states deities listed in a table of gods in the Core Rulebook, The Inner Sea World Guide, Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Gods and Magic are authorized. Here is what is added through Additional Resources (minus the Goblin Gods):
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Dragon Empires Gazetteer: Gods: All gods listed on pages 58-63
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Gods and Magic: Gods: all of the gods listed on the inside front cover are legal choices for clerics (already mentioned in the Guide)
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea World Guide: Gods: All gods listed in the tables on pages 229, 231, and 234 (already mentioned in the Guide, even though additional resources leaves out the gods on page 217, those are just the restated core gods,)
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Magnimar, City of Monuments: Gods: All gods listed in the tables on page 25 are legal
Pathfinder Player Companion: Dragon Empires Primer: Gods: All gods listed on pages 26-27
Pathfinder Player Companion: Dwarves of Golarion: Gods: all gods listed on the inside front cover (note that all gods with favored weapons listed as "hammer" should read "warhammer")
Pathfinder Player Companion: Elves of Golarion: Gods: all gods on page 10
Pathfinder Player Companion: Gnomes of Golarion: Gods: all gods on the inside front cover
Here is the full list of Gods allowed in PFS in alphabetical order.

Great work Dragnmoon
One additional question this raises
Do you have to worship a specific god to be allowed a trait for his worshippers.
Common sense would say yes - but I doubt there is a RAW anywhere.
I did tell off a LN monk zen archer for a trait he had taken from Gorum. He can't be within one alignment step without losing his monk abilities. So I ruled he can't have that trait either.

Religion Traits: Religion traits indicate that your character has an established faith in a specific deity; you need not be a member of a class that can wield divine magic to pick a religion trait, but you do have to have a patron deity and have some amount of religion in your background to justify this trait. Unlike the other categories of traits, religion traits can go away if you abandon your religion, as detailed below under Restrictions on Trait Selection.
Going lawful would imply abandoning Gorum, as he's a Chaotic deity. The sad part of this rule is that it's not clear enough to not warrant a "expect table variation" response.

Those blogs to not add authorized Gods to PFS they just add the subdomains to the Gods.
Dragnmoon |
Also, from Goblins of Golarion:
The audience for that was just not large enough for me to add them, that is why I added this note.
Here is what is added through Additional Resources (minus the Goblin Gods):

Notes the lack of Lissala, Cthulhu, Yog-Sothoth etc.
Thanks Dragnmoon, that's really helpful.
Yup, not on any list in the books authorized.

Notes the list lacks Razmir. Good thing I didn't write his name under deity for my Razmiran Priest. Though if Razmir is not a legal choice for deity, is his holy symbol a legal choice for any holy symbol item? Because the Razmiran Priest doesn't pretend to be a cleric of some other random god, they pretend to worship Razmir the false god. I don't think Razmir actually ever appears in any god listings, so it's a good question as to weather or not his holy symbol would be allowed.
Also, darn Aroden isn't legal.

Razmir is not a real god so I don't see why you can't have a holy symbol, in fact a PC wanted to pretend to be a follower of Lissala I see no reason not to be allowed to have her holy symbol, though you can't be a true follower of either.
And Aroden is dead, which is a good reason why he cannot be followed.

I have a new player in my area who is a Taldan Paladin, who worships Iomedae, but just like Taldor is decadent and stuck in the past, so is his character and family, and he keeps forgetting that Aroden Died and keeps saying "In the Name of Aroden" instead of Iomedae...
Heh. My oracle would not like him, since worshipers of the inheritor are kinda stealing all his follower's away! *rabble rabble rabble*

chuckle... I like it when a new player actually reads the setting info, and does their best to try and fit their character idea into what is both allowed by PFS and detailed in the setting information.
Dylos |
I have a "cleric" of Aroden (who is in fact a life oracle) who attempts to convince people the only reason Aroden is dead is because noone is worshiping him anymore. So he tries to get converts all the time.
I might be tempted to have my Razmiran Priest worship Aroden but I'm not sure if the archetype's flavor can be re-skinned to worship a dead god instead of a false one.

now if it just listed their domains(subdomains) i'd just have it printed out and framed...
The Wiki has the ability to order them by subdomain, if that helps.

Mike did alert me to this thread, which inspired me to finally get around to updating my Deities list. Tracking the various deities was something I didn't decide to do until I was already a good 100 books into my updates (technically the second time around, since I re-did everything for the new SQL-based system), so I was missing a deal of information.
Thanks to Dragnmoon for his help in compiling the books I needed to go through. It made updating things a lot quicker. The site now has a full list of the various deities mentioned in the books, along with the Sources listed and PFS-Legal markers.
Something that was already on the site, but worth mentioning, is the Domains section. Found in the Cleric area, this lists all the Domains/Subdomains and every deity which can grant it.
The deities are mentioned in the individual domains as well (eg: Destruction)

So... just to be TRIPLE clear: You can NOT worship the Old Ones? It showed up as an option in Hero Lab (with PFS rule set engaged) and my son IMMEDIATELY wanted to jump on it.
Correct. They have never been added as a legal choice in any of the resources in Additional Resources.
Don Walker |
The part about Gods listed in the Paizo Blogs as not being legal is not how I understand it per this thread.
Those blogs are legal PFS resources and certain deities such as Lissala are listed in them. This understanding has not been countered by Mike or Mark.
Dragnmoon |
Don, those Blogs are just to clear up Subdomains for all Golarion Deities they are not a legal list of gods for PFS. If they were it would state such just like every other legal source for gods in additional resources does.
Even Mark does not think there is anything in additional resources that makes Lissala as a example, legal for PFS.
Every time a God is made legal in additional resources it is called out as such. It does not do that for the Blogs.

Lissala is listed in the second of those two blog posts.
One would presume that "sanctioned for use" means a PC can worship the listed deities, don't you think? If that's not the intended meaning, then Additional Resources needs some re-wording.

I agree with Jiggy.
Dragnmoon |
I don't agree with Jiggy, And I think it is a poor assumption to think so.
The Additional resources have consistently pointed out when a God is is made Legal for PFS which it does not state so for the Blog. Not only that if they really wanted them all to be legal they would have done so for the Inner Sea World Guide where you actually have to reference for the information needed to add the gods to your PC (Domains, favorite weapons). The blog does not have enough information to add them for a Cleric as an example, you need to reference a book where, example Lissala is listed as not legal.
