Detect Magic and detection of already cast spells

Rules Questions

Sczarni

Just a quick question. Can the Detect Magic detect the effect's of spells that are cast on area?

In my case, I wondering specifically about Dimnish Plants or Defoliate spells which have been cast to destroy/dimnish crop fields.

Thanks for responses.

Yes, detect magic will reveal the presence of active spells.

Spells which have a long-term impact but are no longer active may or may not have an aura, depending on how long it's been.

dc20+ spell level knowledge arcana to notice in place spell effect.

As a GM, in an area of blight or some other magically affected area, I'd give a character a spellcraft or knowledge check to determine if it is natural or magically created.

But if I noticed right, 3rd spell or lower include's faint aura. And faint aura linger's for only 1d6 rounds. So if few day's passed, there would be no way of knowing if the spell was cast here?

Not by RAW. But again, as a GM if a high level druid were to visit an area another druid had blasted with "blight" even days afterward, I'd give them a pretty good chance to know "blight" when they see it.

But then I do stuff like that.

Well, if it was the only clue, I would too but PC's will have bunch of other clue's, so they can deduct themselves what's going on.

Thanks on insight AD.
