WOW Enhancement Shaman

We have a new player joining our group, and while he has never played Pathfinder, he is an avid WOW player who plays an Enhancement Shaman.

What would be the closest class to that character?
I thought Magus, but was overrules as they lack any healing ability.
What would you suggest/ think?

Main things Enhancement Shamans get:

> Elemental Damage added to weaponry
> Energy shields around the body that can be discharged as part of a melee attack
> Self-buffs
> The ability to add a rapid blast to a melee routine without interruption after landing enough hits
> Healing (minor compared to the rest)

Magus really is the best way to pull it off, though it's poor for dual-wielding; Magi do get access to Infernal Healing, so you're not 100% out of healing options. Your second-best option would be Druid - there's a few 3rd-party spells that let you add elemental damage to your weapons, and they have the lightning spells associated with Shaman from pretty early on, if I recall right. (There's a third-party Shaman that's basically a spont-caster Druid that might also be an option.)

Hey Balin I don't want to get this off track but I think that sometimes trying to do something like this can confuse a new player because it promotes the assumption that the mechanics and combat techniques are the same when they really are not

For example like trying to explain how Sneak Attacks work to a WoW rogue player who is used to using Ambush from their Stealth.

Also Magus is one of the more tough classes for a beginner to wrap their head around, since essentially they have to understand spellstrike plus most of the casting rules plus most of the melee rules plus make sure they're not taking too many hard shots to the face due to their (relative) squishiness

I would say let them get their feet wet with a barbarian, fighter or sorcerer.

Once they have it down, open the game and the classes up to them a bit more

Dual-wielding cleric with air and fire domain.

At level 3, can dual-wield a battleaxe and a cestus, can shoot lightning, can shoot fire. Can use burning hands or produce flame for flame shock, can channel to heal for healing rain, can spontaneous heals for other heals. Shield of faith is earth shield. At 7th level, can cast blessing of fervor for heroism/bloodlust.

If you want, you can create an archetype and take his domain's 8th level abilities to give him something reminiscent of totems-- this totem grants +1 per 5 to attacks and damage, this totem grants +1 per 5 to the DCs of spells, this totem grants 3 resist per 4 etc, usable as a standard action 3/day, no more than one totem active at a time. Base them off of judgments, but give them to the entire party for only his Wis in rounds.

I like it! Nicely done IT.

Thats.. awesome, Ice Titan.

I loves my enhancement shaman. If I wasn't already bound into a cahracter for our next AP I'd give that one a shot. :)

You might also want to check out the Shaman class from Kobold press. It sounds like it might fit very well! (I'm on my phone or I'd link to it)

Dark Archive

An oracle of flame could pull off a lot of shaman tricks. If you let him use the Suli race from the Advance Race Guide, he will also have the ability to add elemental damage of his choice onto his melee attacks.

Here's that link, now that I'm in front of an actual computer :)
