Due to the seemingly increasing amount of traffic on just this topic over here, and I freely acknowledge that I am as guilty of it as many others; I'm starting this thread to try & move the many discussions going on there over here so we can talk about the original point of that thread there again.

Not certain if that made any sense or not, but going with it anyway. There's beer in the fridge, popcorn in the microwave & plenty of chairs to pull up so let's go!

I hear some people don't like homosexuality! That's weird, huh?

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

Not really. I don't like homosexuality. That's why I don't do it. I dislike telling somebody they are bad/wrong just because they like something I don't more however.

Goblins do it in the street!

Demiliches do it in the [REDACTED]!

I predict a relatively homophobe-free thread; I don't think many of them are brave enough to post somewhere they're expected to say what they actually think of homosexuality, as opposed to a thread where they can safely (and laughably) "skirt" the issue by whining about balance or how all sexuality should be left out of RPGs.

Balance? What?

The Exchange

I just want more positive portrayals of other alternate sexual lives, bdsm, threeway romance, etc. Not just more gay=more "diverse"

I'm scratching my head too.

At least one person felt that all this discussion of homosexual relationships was marginalizing him as a heterosexual male. So SuperSlayer took matters into his own hands, and started a thread on straight people in Golarion.

That thread did not last very long.

Yes, that would be nice, but too much, too soon is just as detrimental to that goal as not enough; and before you even ask, no, I don't know how much is too much, which is why I am inclined to try & conclusively win one 'battle' before moving on to another.

@Scott Betts: SuperSlayer's thread died because he was trying to hide, badly, what it was really about by not actually committing to anything & then getting stupidly defensive when people started either a) making light of it, or b) calling him on it. Also because he was trying to hide real-world commentary in a gaming topic thread, which is why I made certain to start this in Off-Topic discussions.
Of course that is my opinion, which could easily be wrong, just ask my ex-wife.

Yep, that about sums it up.

OHHHHHH. Right. I saw that. I thought you meant game balance, and was wondering how I missed that.

I'm sure if they could figure out a way to use game balance concerns as a smokescreen, they would.

There's the "Harem-Autocracy" of the city of Gasping-Ecstasy in Abaddon. Though I rather doubt it's the model of a healthy poly situation, being ruled by erodaemons and all.

And there was a D/S couple in the Rival Guide, but again those two were very much not going by SSC. They're a pretty horrible example actually, but it's a gnoll Lamashtu worshiper and her quite literally purchased property, so already it's stumbling for good as well as diverse. But it's there and it's not portrayed for the purpose of making it exploitative or shocking.

Any discussion of gender politics on this board is difficult and complex. Not only do you have by interest in this hobby a skewed demographic and thus an unrepresentative voice, you have an international element where their experience and the maturity of gender/sexual relations differs in many ways...

Politically we are doing ok... We were the second country in the world where women won the right to vote.

For example our Athiest, female Prime-minister Julia Gillard is not married but in a long term relationship with no intention to marry. (I am guessing that all of the above would make her unelectable in the US).

One of the senior Ministers in Julia's government Penny Wong (Finance Minister) is openly gay, and her partner has given birth via IVF. None of the above has had an effect on her reelection.

Yet Julia is against gay marriage.

At one stage our Head of State Queen Elizabeth, The Governor General, The Prime Minister, and a majority of State Premiers were female.

Business wise we are not doing as well, it is illegal to pay people differently based on race/religion/gender all though juniors and apprentices get paid less regardless of the above.

The disparity in wages comes from halted careers due to child birth, more women work part time and jobs requiring similar level of training required jobs paying less (Hair dressers and mechanics for example). For example male mechanic and a female mechanic are required to be paid at the same rate.

The richest person in Australia is a woman but she is a right wing loon (she tried to buy a tv network because she hated the Simpsons and wanted to take it off air) she also inherited her vast wealth.

Our top female CEO is the head of a major financial institution, she has just overseen the off shoring of a lot of jobs.

Other than that the glass ceiling is in place and it will probably 15 or so years before there are significant changes, once the baby boomers are retired we should see a big change.

I'm pretty sure if they're doing it on the highway it would be 'Fifty Shades of Red & Brown...'

Yes, I went there.

What?

Uh, I am surprised that our Polish MP Anna Grodzka is the only transsexual memeber of parliment currently active in Europe and the third openly transsexual person elected to be MP in the world... (assuming the wikipedia article isn't outdated)

Would be Poland on the way to tolerance and progress again after four hundred years?

I probably have to go read a few more asinine backwater comments on Polish sites, like those concerning the failed domestic partnership and marriage reform proposals to quench my optimism about possible maturing of my kinsmen.

Wasn't Poland the first country in Europe to legalise homosexuality? (in the 1790s, before the French).

Well, seeing as there was no Poland from 1795 to the end of World War 1 (I'm a bit hazy on when exactly that was for Poland), it didn't last very long in that case.

Nope, Poland wasn't the first country in Europe to legalize homosexuality because it was never illegal here. Poland never had any native law against homosexuality.

Well, furries are a whole nother bag of sex politics worms, now that you mention it.

So are we going to get the "make group X happy in gaming" for furries now? will Sandpoint's newest friends be the druid and his much "loved" animal companion?

Gossip states that the Wrath Of The Righteous will see catfolk Paladin and her ratfolk Wizard lover.

Spoiler:
Gossip that I just invented.

Sometimes I see anti-gay comments on here and I just assume it's JC from Coast to Coast AM.

Makes me giggle.

It's a nice place to visit, if you haven't been there yet. I totally recommend it.

Scott Betts wrote:

Naaah. By the percentages, most people will not personally enjoy homosexuality.

This has nothing to do with how you should treat people who like different things, or why you should care that they like them. You can personally not care to eat okra without being mentally unbalanced enough to be abusive towards people who do.

Because seriously, that is pretty mentally unbalanced. Substitute the relevant bit of gendered anatomy for okra, and this is still true. If you care that much about what is on someone else's dinner table, or in someone else's bedroom, or if you think it is in any way your business, I think you are a nutjob with no concept of personal boundaries and I don't want to be around you.

I am however oddly okay with the idea of an erodaemon-ruled Harem Autocracy. I don't think they give anyone a safeword, though.

Wow. 97 new posts in the Homosexuality in Golarion thread since last night. Something tells me it's not 97 new posts about hawt sex and fantasy worlds...
