Premiering at South by Southwest, Zero Charisma is a story about a passionate gamemaster struggle to regain his honor from a neo nerd hipster duchebag*
I guess 'Three Charisma' does not have the same ring to it, and Zero Dark Thirty was taken.
*Thanks for that line Trisha Hershberger

Shut up.
Did he come back?
Did he?
Yeah, he came back.
But he's not a goblin. He's a spaceman.
As in extraterrestrial.
Where's he from? Uranus? Get it? Your anus?
He doesn't get it.
Get it? Your anus?
He doesn't get it.
You're so immature.
And you're a sine supremus.
Zero charisma.
Sine supremus.
Zero charisma.
Shut up, Greg!
Sine supremus. Zero charisma!
You wimp.

Just saw this on VoD... I have to say I really like it. It didn't feel like it was taking cheap shots or just blowing out stereotypes, but definitely felt more like a love letter to gaming.
I also listened to the Nerdist Podcast this week w/ the couple who created it, and they seemed to be legit gamers.
The story itself didn't hold many surprises, but the emotional moments and peek into the main character were pretty powerful. I genuinely grew to care for him, despite his destructive tendencies. I think the fact that there was something all too familiar about him helped encourage my sympathy: I could almost put a name to him from friends I've known. As the story unfolded, I was left with a deepening desire to just help the character become self-aware, to show him the connection between his own pain and the reactions he has to the members of his game.
Most surprising, it left me with an uncomfortable level of self-evaluation! Being the member of our (30's and married/childed) gaming circle who probably has a higher level of commitment to the game than most, I could relate to the frustration the main character felt when others didn't place the same priority on the game as he does. For me, Pathfinder is my main creative and social outlet... for others, it's just a game night. I usually can keep any hard feelings that arise from this in check, but this movie helped remind me how bad things can get when the game is too precious (and also gave a good check as to examine why the game is so precious to me).
Long and short, the emotional core of the movie felt very honest. I wouldn't say this move is a stand out home run like "The Gamers" movies, but I'd give this a solid A-. Definitely worth the VoD rental, and I'll probably buy this too keep it around and re-watch 1x a year or with friends.
