Quick Advice Anyone?

Rise of the Runelords

The Exchange

Hey all, I'm gonna start running RotR, AE this Saturday. I've read through the whole thing once already, but I wanted to read through it once again before Saturday. Doesn't look like I'm gonna have time to do that, so is there any plot/foreshadowing that I should keep in mind for at least Part 1?

Any help would be great! Thanks.

Sovereign Court

There is not an awful lot of foreshadowing going on in the first few scenes.
In the AE version of ROTRL most foreshadowing events are mentioned in the pages.
Plus in some parts can give you hints on what to foreshadow.

Liberty's Edge

Depending on how long your plan on playing, you may or may not reach the Glassworks. Even the Glassworks itself doesn't have any foreshadowing as far as the AP is concerned, but it does have info that is important for the rest of that chapter.

If I was in your position, I would focus on studying the first two parts of the chapter to make sure the opening scenes run smoothly and that the town is a vibrant, interesting place for the PCs to want to stick around.

The most important foreshadowing in the beginning is for Aldern Foxglove to focus on someone for his obsession in Chapter 2.

This is even more important than Foxglove.

I have two ideas, both of which need spoilering:

Extra Knowledge:

Brodert Quink is a gold mine. Do not overlook him, and make sure the PCs run into him and ask him about ancient Thassilon. I gave him far more information than he should have (he rolled a 41 on his Knowledge: History check), so he described the war between Alaznist and Karzoug, his theories that the lighthouse was a weapon and Thistletop the top of a massive watchtower, and even a bit about the runewells.

Too much? Well, we're near the end of book 4, and my party is still convinced that they're after ALL of the Runelords, and have to find the runewells one by one and shut them down. They're designing their tactics based on their search for runewells. They track people by their sins. It's really spectacularly entertaining that they still think it's ALL of the Runelords.

So I gave them more information than they should have. And it has added massively to their motivation, their research, and their behavior. Great fun!

EDIT: DO NOT give them any information about runewells until they encounter the first one in the Catacombs of Wrath. It's far more fun when PCs jump into it.

NPCs:

If you play up Aldern Foxglove too much in Book 1 (which I recommend) without playing up any other NPCs, then in Book 2 the party will immediately suspect him of being the Skinsaw Murderer. Introduce some Scarnettis, some Scarzni, or other less-than-savory NPCs so that Aldern isn't the only suspect in town when people start dying.
