5' step out of difficult terrain?

That may be but one of my players pointed to it and interpreted the postings as not settling the question originally posted. This issue still comes up, so I felt some clarification was justified.

One cannot 5' out of difficult terrain. Movement must be used until clear of the obstructing terrain. The forums tend to muddy things more than help at times and this is one of those instances.

Java Man was just concerned over the number of pugwumpis that died to bring this thread back to life.

Death to all Pugwumpies.

I think the word "concerned" is a stretch. He seems to be more hopeful, than concerned.

18 months is a long time for a raise thread casting, though I (we) have all seen longer. Much longer.

So.. just to be clear... Can't 5 out?

As with many things in PFS - this is subject to table variation. YMMV.

Yeah. I know how I rule it, but I also don't complain if someone does it differently.

My take is that it hurts to step on Legos, not to step off Legos. In other words, I only concern myself with the space the character is moving into.

But I'd respect another GM who did it differently.

This has come up before, creating a long, borderline vitriolic debate. I'm FAQing this one in the hopes that it gets settled (even though I firmly believe you can 5-foot step while leaving an impeded square--the impeded movement was already paid when you entered the square).

This long thread asked about stepping out of Grease and has 92 FAQ requests.

Why does Paizo find it so hard to answer simple yes or no questions? I don't care what the answer is here as long as I get one.

I am in the camp that it is a 5' step out of difficult terrain. If there is a 5' square of difficult terrain, you pay the penalty once, not twice. That one time is upon entering.

Was this ever settled with a FAQ? I am really only posting this to see if Java Man once again posts how long the thread has been dead.

=D

Nah, this is less than a year, and asking if something was settled sounds like a legit reason to dig up threadcorpses.

Thread Ghouls gotta eat...

I think this one is going to flop about based on GM interpretation. The majority of GMs are gonna let you 5ft step.

If you are starting in a spell's active area of effect then you get the whammy as described in the spell's description. Otherwise I'd agree that barring some active impeding force or condition or circumstance the 5ft step into an open square should be allowed.

Alas, in a Rules Thread if you post without supporting quotes from RAW I think it's just opinion and should be taken as such.

It's fun when year later I can simply quote myself and still not know where I am.

This answer must be difficult terrain, and given the hardship it is to leave this thread to die, I think the answer is "one simply does not 5 foot step out of mordor"
