Yeah. I know how I rule it, but I also don't complain if someone does it differently.
My take is that it hurts to step on Legos, not to step off Legos. In other words, I only concern myself with the space the character is moving into.
But I'd respect another GM who did it differently.

This has come up before, creating a long, borderline vitriolic debate. I'm FAQing this one in the hopes that it gets settled (even though I firmly believe you can 5-foot step while leaving an impeded square--the impeded movement was already paid when you entered the square).

I think this one is going to flop about based on GM interpretation. The majority of GMs are gonna let you 5ft step.
If you are starting in a spell's active area of effect then you get the whammy as described in the spell's description. Otherwise I'd agree that barring some active impeding force or condition or circumstance the 5ft step into an open square should be allowed.
Alas, in a Rules Thread if you post without supporting quotes from RAW I think it's just opinion and should be taken as such.
