Squire limited to paladin, gunslinger, cavalier, or fighter cohorts?

Advice

I'm about to reach 3rd level soon in my DM's campaign but I wanted to make sure if I read this feat correctly.

A squire can only take levels in a class that grants proficiency with all martial weapons as a class feature, such as paladin, gunslinger, cavalier, or fighter. She cannot multiclass, though she may take any archetype she qualifies for.

Is it possible for me to select a squire who isn't a paladin, gunslinger, cavalier or fighter by the feat's write up? Such as a magus, monk (sohei), or oracle of battle (with the skills at arm revelation) as examples?

I think magus and sohei monk are a go, but not the oracle of battle as the class doesn't have proficiency in all martial weapons even though it has an option that will grant it.

Does the base class grant proficiency with all martial weapons? If so, they can be made into a squire.

You can read more about the thought process behind it here.

Archetypes that grant martial weapon proficiency are a go, not just base classes (if what you mean by base classes, Cheapy, is unarchetyped).

I'd say yes. Always consider intention, not just semantics. The intention here is to have a squire that has martial familiarity and feels like a good student to a martial character. A warrior-monk like a sohei would be a fine squire, especially for a samurai! Neat fit and a pretty cool option!

thank you for the responses!

Ah, I was looking for Patrick Renie's posts on that topic, since he appears to have been the developer for that. Alright, so martial familiarity and "feels like a good student to a martial character". And also that there needed to be significant restrictions due to getting it earlier, probably like not giving a cleric.
