Daily deal effectiveness

Since we get daily deal items at launch, I'm assuming that they will be balanced with current character level. However as time goes on those weapons may become obsolete as the characters level. While this won't likely effect utility items (like the traveling devil box) this becomes a concern with the daily deals that are weapons and armor.

Are daily deal able to be improved via crafting tools in order to keep them relevant for combat or are they just going to be level 1-5 items that we shelve after that time.

I've seen some similar threads on this but, none that seemed to focus on this particular issue/question.

The daily deals are intended to be mostly cosmetic and of very little practical value.

That's what i mean, since they have no value, they would eventually have to be replaced with items that are better. I would like to still use them in late game because I like their cosmetics.

If we can craft magic items, I'd like to be able to upgrade the daily deal items. It think ti would be pretty cool to have a +5 Shocking Burst Dogslicer of Wounding.

I hope either there's a wild variety of appearances we can use for items while crafting, or we can display our nice things with player housing.

Or they could be a part of a cosmetic system.

Devil Box will have more bag space, but will probably eat one of your items every now and then.

I wonder what happens when you put a Star of Asmodeus and an Old One Idol in a Devil Box.

yea i have a feeling you can skin it via the cosmetics system

Careful talking about 'skinning' and gear cosmetics.

This is starting to become something that is talked about so much, without plausible doubt, that people may start to think it is a game mechanic.

I wouldn't expect the daily deal items to be useless. You will probably be able to use them for a good while, but they won't be the most powerful items in the game.

People are stuck in the EQ/WoW era or 'leveling with gear', come to the EvE/sandbox era. Gear is not something that increases dramatically, different gear does different things. You could find a 3 year vet using the same gear as someone who started 2 months ago.

Long as I can get my vorpal dagger I am happy :D

To be honest I much prefer characters that create themselves by finding items/weapons over time to the WoW style pre-optimised build that is preplanned from day one.

... interesting side point, if you stick someone with a vorpal dagger instead of throat slashing does it still function ?

I don't think so. You can only have vorpal on a slashing weapon, so if you are using piercing, then the vorpal function wouldn't work.

Whats pretty ludicrous though is because of how weapons apply damage types, you can have a vorpal whip.

Collector's items don't have to be useful, if you can display them, eventually they will be VERY valuable. In uo, rare one off items were insanely valuable to collectors.
