When can we talk about our own items?

Do we have to wait until the top 32 have been announced?

I'm so impatient!

Grrrrrr!!!!!

When the Official Top 32 are announced. Anything before that could land you in DQ land, and I don't mean Dairy Queen.

I thought the rules said that we can't discuss specific items while voting is going on. Did that mean the general voting period that just ended, or did it include the period just beginning where the official judges are considering their own votes? The RAW don't make that obvious.

Since entrants cannot break their anonymity until the top 32 are announced I think it is safe to say wait.

Liberty's Edge Dedicated Voter Season 6, Star Voter Season 7

In every past iteration of the contest, discussing our items has only been okay after the top 32 are announced.

In this year's version, it makes sense as the celebrity judges are now discussing and finalizing the top 32 and alternates.

Bottom line: wait.

I wonder how much time it's going to actually take them to finalize the list this year with it being sorted. Or, phrased another way, I wonder how well the voting process functioned overall. Not that they'll be able to tell us if they skipped over any of the "voted Top 32," but it'd be interesting to hear their perspective on all this once it's done. I'd also love some final voting stats from Paizo.

And I didn't see my item either. It's really hard not to run through the forums with a "HAVE YOU SEEN THIS ITEM?" posterboard. On the upside, even if you don't make the Top 32, once they're announced you'll be able to ask for the first time "Hey, who saw my item? Did anyone see it after the Cull? Did anyone have it in their personal "keep" pile? Why or why not?"

I think the Critique My Item thread this year will be really spectacular.

It's just another week, people. Enhance your calm. Go have a cup of hot cocoa. Game. Sort your sock drawer. Something.

Ironically, I did actually sort my sock drawer yesterday (OK, not sort, but cleaned it out)... It's not really a good substitute for RPGSS.

Sock drawer... Try the sock drawer of a toddler ("Honey why is the dwarf mini in your tights?") that will keep you busy. :)

I'm really looking forward to giving feedback for a few items. There were some that I really, really liked (although I couldn't dig up 32 superstar items).

There were a few where I wanted to shake the author and ask, "why oh why did you have to make that mistake? You could've been a contender!" A couple items that probably won't make it through had such a terrific theme but iffy mechanics that I suspect they were new players/makers; so I expect to see them back strong next year.

Overall, I'm really pleased with this new system. Not only should it make the judges job a little easier, but it will help to illustrate what us as players really enjoy seeing (which, in the end, is the final goal). It's also a lot less likely that a really good item gets skipped because you entered it on a "bad" day, and vice versa.

Whoever came up with this idea should get a raise!

I've recorded the names of all 810 items I've seen, and I plan on posting an alphabetical checklist once the Top 32 are announced. No commentary. No descriptions (since Paizo owns all rights to the items). Just item names.

A phrase every man dreads hearing.

I, also have the 'never saw my item' dreads, and I voted a LOT. There were several I saw over and over again, but just as I would despair, fresh new items would appear. I saw a lot I liked, many I would never allow at my table and some with good ideas and poor execution. I'm sure the judges have a tough job ahead of them!

Star Voter Season 6

The judges still have a lot of work to do; even narrowing a ranked list down into the Top 32 will certainly not be an easy task. Frankly, I'm fine with waiting as I know it means they will take their time to evaluate items fairly.

While I saw mine, my wife who also made it to Marathon Voter never did and on the last day of voting I saw two new items...so I wouldn't worry too much about not seeing your item. I know easier said than done but don't lose hope. Good luck!

It may be a good thing. As I understand the voting system items with the least votes are presented as part of a pair.

If your item was good and was very frequently voted for over other items then it would be rarely presented for voting. Bad items would be repeatedly presented as they would constantly lose votes to other items.

At least that is what I keep telling myself after not seeing my item after 500 votes (almost exactly because I was Star, voted on about ten things and was Dedicated.

I was under the impression that when you voted for the purposes of sorting it counted as a vote for both items and a "thumbs up" as it were for one. So the pairs would be the least seen items of the moment.

But given then number of repeat visits I had, I could be mistaken.

You're both right, kind of. If you actually voted for one item over an other, then that did indeed count as a ballot for each. But if you ranked them as equal, then that was like not saying anything; and the common wisdom is that bad and mediocre items were more likely to get an equal vote than good items, if only because there were so few of the latter.

So a really good item would be less likely to be seen by you, due to being less likely to be rated as equal to whatever it was up against.

I only saw my item 3 times out of what I think was 2400-2500 votes, and it took me well over 1000 votes to see it once. The other 2 were after the 2000 mark within an hour of each other. Don't despair if you voted 500 times and never saw yours, if items that are blatant plagiarism can make it (and there were a few) then yours made it too. Good luck everyone.

Good call. I think that will help assuage a lot of fears people have. Not to mention, it'll be handy for those of us who weren't keeping a list and are trying to remember the names of some of our favorites. ...Or, you know, send people into a panick if their item isn't on the list. ;)

That said, I think I'm all panicked out. I'm like zen-competitor now. Bring it on.

I saw my item once before the cull and not after that. I probably voted 400 times. I was hoping to see it one last time. At least I know I didn't get DQ'ed.

How sure are you about that? Did you see it before or after the button for reporting an item was removed? Even after the button was removed, SKR was taking PMs for items that were potentially DQ worthy. I know I flagged ~10 before the button was removed and a few afterwords. So many people breaking the template or improper grammar for extra wordcount...

We can talk about my item! It was wondrous. It had some or all of the following features: a title, description, and construction requirements. Some of you may have voted for it, and some may have chosen not to.

I hope you all liked discussing my item! Now back to our regular waiting for the 22nd.

Okay, at least I know it didn't get DQ'ed immediately at the start of the competition. :)

Plagiarism has a specific definition, and is not equivalent to "unoriginal." The former is against the rules, while the latter is merely unwise. If there were any items in this competition that were actually plagiarized, they were not brought to our attention. There were *definitely* items that were unoriginal, and the voters got to reward that lack of originality by promoting better items to the judges.

When you do so, can you note which ones you only saw before the 25% reduction? I saw 787 items, and of those there's 192 I never saw after the reduction, so I'm curious to see what overlap there is between our two lists :)
