Dhampir necromancer feats

Advice

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I will be running a dhampire necromancer and I'm having trouble picking feats for future levels. I've picked Combat Casting, Uncanny Concentration; I've also picked Spell Penatration and Greater Spell Penatration. If anyone has any other feat suggestions for my character build, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Off the top of my head, Spell Focus/Greater spell Focus for Necromancy.
If Knowledge, Religion is one of his/her skills, then maybe look into Thanatopic Spell from Ultimate Magic. It would also require Spell Focus in Necromancy as well.

Also look at Skeleton Summoner and Undead Master for possible selections, also from Ultimate Magic.

Uncanny Concentration is a wasted feat, and I don't think you need the penetration feats until much later.

Spell Focus is definitely a good one, but otherwise, you probably want general caster feats like Improved Initiative.

You didn't mention--are you a wizard, sorcerer, etc.? That will determine the benefit of certain feats (like Spell Mastery or various Metamagics).

Sorry about the omission. My character is a wizard.

I wasn't planning on taking the two Spell Penetration feats until after 10th level or later.

Spell Focus looks good. Any bonus to a spells DC is helpful. Thanks.

Don't you need command undead and stuff like that

Depends on if he wants to control undead.

If you're actually going to be someone who is raising undead creatures, a cleric is a much better option than a wizard, since you can use your channeling to control undead you encounter and heal the undead you control.

Command Undead or Turn Undead comes with being specializing in Necromancy. I chose Command Undead.

I actually looked into playing a evil cleric with the Undead domain. Our group already has a healer but no arcane magic. While I will be animating dead or creating undead later on, my use of undead is that their roles would more in aiding with combat by being more targets that the enemy would have to contend with. This would true with skeletons and zombies, where the nastier undead like ghouls and ghasts would be a bit more formidable. My role would be one who takes control of undead either roaming or ones under the control of another. But if the situation calls for a fireball or lightning bolt, I can be there to fill that role as well.

Also, I've already written a rather lengthy character bio that will eventually lead her to dispelling her human half and become a full vampire through the Agent of the Grave prestige class.

I'm not sure if this is true, but the wizard archetype's features MAY apply to your cleric spells. if so then i'd still dip, then I'd jump to cleric and grab both the undead and animal domains, get yourself boon companion and vampiric companion which should allow you a pretty nice pet without dealing with RAW arguments. You may even qualify for the third party ironskin companion as well.

the necrowizard levels will still grant you a lot for cleric, such as control undead and extra HD. I was playing with a theurge necro of that race.. came out pretty nice but I had to convice my DM to allow my slyvan bloodline eldrich heritage and the dip into arcane heirophant.
