Deathmatch Tournament

Advice

My friends and I are going to have a Deathmatch tournament, I am not sure how many players there will be but I know that every player will have three 5th level characters. I was hoping for any advice for the characters I will be playing. I will most than likely play Barbarians and Fighters. We will be using 20 point buy and GP appropriate for 5th level characters. if is it in a Paizo book it is allowed.

Get yourself a cavalier with a lance, and charge them attacking with your lance and your horses hoof. Snag Pack Attack as your Tactician feat so you can always have your mount dancing out of melee to boost your chances of an AoO and making it more likely that you'll be able to get the 10 ft space you need to charge each round with only a free five foot step. Make sure you snag Spirited Charge as your 3rd or 5th level feat so you're doing triple damage on each charge. For a Deathmatch in an open arena, you'll drop your friends so fast it won't even be funny. Plus, if they back you into a corner, you've got a mount with big sharp hooves to help you dish out some damage.

Not a big fan of mounted characters. More than likely I will play either 2 barbarians and a 1 fighter or 2 fighters and 1 barbarian.

Well if you want to win, arcane wizards are the way to go.
the easiest is high initiative, high DC, wizards who all drop a fireball. Level 5 characters just cant deal with that kind of dmg.

But before I get carried away,
If you are set on beefy types max your strength, take toughness, use power attack and two weapon fighting with double slice and smash things dead... fast!

you don't need level 5 in barbarian since uncanny dodge isn't going to be needed. (rogues will lose the fight even with +3d6 flank because they cant take your hits and you have hp to take theirs) So I would go with
barb 4 fighter 1 Or barb 2 ranger 2 fighter 1 (the ranger is if you don't want the 15 dex to qualify for two weapon fighting)

If you know they will have casters you will want to buff the saves you think are weak. Expect spell DC's as high as 20 :(

I would spread out against mages... and don't forget to bring a ranged attack that uses your strength bonus for dmg.(javelin probably good enough)

GL! and make sure to post the results of the outcomes of each round in the tournament!!

If you would like us to run this for you, we would be happy to
Head over to the Arena thread. We are just about done with a level 11 death match..

The first character I am making is a 5th level Hobgoblin Two handed Fighter, I am leaning towards a Size large Bastard Sword with the Impact weapon enhancement. Feats I am leaning towards are EWP (Bastard Sword), Power Attack, Furious Focus and Toughness. not sure what the other 2 feats will be. The only problem I have is that the Sword will cost me just over 10,300 GP and we only have 10,500 GP.

My biggest concern is with dealing with the Mages that will be in this combat. I am sure one of my friends will be playing some. He is really good at Mage builds. All the other players wont be so difficult to deal with, they are not as versed in Pathfinder so I am not so worried but this one friend of mine will be my largest challange, I need to build some characters to deal with him. He always says the best thing to put up against a full caster is a Drow Monk.

I would agree with him. Monks don't fail saves and drow have natural spell resist. Toss in two levels of paladin and you can boost your saves further.

Mages that cant kill you are not a threat per-say, but they could still prove to be nearly impossible to kill. Invisible is a level 2 spell, fly level 3, false life, mirror image, arrrg how do i down these buggers!
