I've been looking over the favored class bonuses in the APG, and I am very confused about the Human one.
Human: Add +1 to the paladin's energy resistance to one kind of energy (maximum +10).
Where/when do Paladins gain energy resistence?? I see a lot of immunities to charm and fear... I see DR kicking in at 17th level.. but I'm not seeing Energy resistance...
does this GIVE you ER? Seeing that word 'ADD +1' makes me think it's attached to some other ability that I'm just not seeing...
Of course it's late... but I've been wondering about that for a while now >.<

It's worded "add" so that it stacks with racial energy resistance.
Edit: Also, the Empyreal Knight archetype gets energy resistance (and others might too, I haven't checked).
Racial???
But you need to be a human to use this Alternate ability... I know sorcerers get energy resistenc... Is this only useful if you multiclass??

I think I seen something say that you can use this ability even if you dont have any energy resistance. All though I dont remember where. All races have an energy resistance of 0 so I would say you can get energy resistance with this ability. But that is something that would have to be brought up to your GM, and see what he thinks.

I would figure it is meant to mean:
If you have energy resistance, add this to it.
If you don't have energy resistance... add this to it anyway, and you now have energy resistance.
That said, as a Paladin's favored class, I understand the line of thinking that it would be related to a Paladin's class feature... Doesn't need to be though.
Incidentally, Gnome Druids get this.
Druid: The druid gains energy resistance 1 against acid, cold, electricity, or fire. Each time the druid selects this reward, increase her resistance to one of these energy types by +1 (maximum 10 for any one type).
You could assume the Paladin works the same way and the wording was just not as clear as it should be.
Edit: Of course, I suppose one could also argue that, with them being worded differently, maybe it doesn't work that way. Seems much more logical to me that it would do something though.
