ranger trapper archetype and poison use

4 people marked this as FAQ candidate.

I just noticed that while the ranger trapper archetype is legal for pfs play, they do get a trap ability that requires the use of bought poisons, they are not on the list of characters that are allowed to buy poisons.

The ability I am talking about is the extraordinary use of the poison trap, it requires the trapper to provide his own poison, but he is not allowed per the FAQ rule.

is this intentional?

According to the Additional Resources for Ultimate Equipment, you are right as the Ranger does not have the Poison Use class ability and does not gain it with the archetype so you would not be able to buy poisons. If I were to venture a guess, you would either have to use the supernatural use of the trap or that particular trap would not be accessible. I am going to keep an eye on this thread as I am very interested to see what the final word is on your question.

Intentional, probably not...oversight, good possibility.

yea i was thinking it was probably an oversight, but would be nice to get it clarified.

I'm fairly certain that if you find poison in a scenario (and it is then on your chronicle sheet) that you can buy it no matter what your class (except say paladins).

you are correct, in both your assumptions.

i was unable to find any reference to this in the forums, so i assume i am the first to notice it and say something about it.

but this is a class ability just like poison rogue/ninja or alchemist, so it would be logical for this specific archetype to be able to buy poisons, just like the specific poison rogue archetype is allowed to buy them.

i am not looking for alternate ways to get poison, i am trying to point out to pfs officials that this might be an oversight, and correct it.

otherwise they can reply and say that they know about it, and it was deliberately excluded. i am not asking for an explanation as to why, in that case, just confirmation that it is known.
