...you need bait for the Sandpoint Devil...

The Exchange

on a serious note I believe there is a orphanage in sandpoint heck you could even have the PC stop by after a certain attack on it to see how it did unless they completely flubbed defending the town then just gives them more reason for vengeance.

Ruggs, Yes they travelled with infants or while pregnant. On the Oregon Trail, with LARGE numbers of other people in a wagon train, that often included professionals such as doctors. They were travelling overland in wagons, the environment was their biggest threat. Comparing that to an adventurer who knowingly goes into hostile environments where there are enemies that they intend on fighting is not an apt comparison.

Yes, the Oregon Trail people might meet Indians along the way, but they did their best to AVOID hostile situations for the protection of all. An adventurer goes out of their way to SEEK OUT hostile situations.

If the frontier woman was taking her newborn child out on the trail looking to hunt down and pacify Indians, then there would be a legitimate comparison, but I have to believe that there weren't many that did that.

Let a Gnome raise it... They might bond over pyromania... OR not... >_>

The Exchange

In general it's a mistake for a PC to become a surrogate parent (or just plain parent) - due to time and safety issues. Your best bet is to arrange a long-term caretaker and visit whenever time permits. Know any half-orc NPCs? They're the most likely to treat the youngster as a sapient child rather than some kind of demented exotic pet. Contribute generously to its upbringing, and be sure to leave some kind of fund in case your career is suddenly ended while you're far away.
