Question regarding opening up Weapon Specialization et al

Advice

Does anyone here open up Weapon spec and the rest of the tree to
non-fighters? I think they would be great opportunities for other classes to add some punch, especially when arcane casters can use weapon focus: Ray.

What do others think?

I don't.

Other classes get ways of putting the hurt on monsters that fighters don't get. Fighters get things other classes don't get.

Rangers get favored enemies. Paladins get Smite Evil. Barbarians get Rage. Fighters get Specialization.

Fighters get weapon training, if we are comparing class features.

I've considered opening them up but also amending them. Non-fighters get the RAW versions but fighters apply them to weapon groups instead of single weapon types. Basically a barbarian can take Weapon Specialization (Glaive) but a fighter would take Weapon Specialization (Polearms).

Also, I think this is in the wrong forum.

Precise Strike (Combat, Teamwork)
You are skilled at striking where it counts, as long as an ally distracts your foe.

Prerequisites: Dex 13, base attack bonus +1.

Benefit: Whenever you and an ally who also has this feat are flanking the same the creature, you deal an additional 1d6 points of precision damage with each successful melee attack. This bonus damage stacks with other sources of precision damage, such as sneak attack. This bonus damage is not multiplied on a critical hit.

Outflank (Combat, Teamwork)
You look for every edge when flanking an enemy.

Prerequisite: Base attack bonus +4.

Benefit: Whenever you and an ally who also has this feat are flanking the same creature, your flanking bonus on attack rolls increases to +4. In addition, whenever you score a critical hit against the flanked creature, it provokes an attack of opportunity from your ally.

These two feat are open to any that is one melee with Dex 13 and BaB of +4 and are better then weapon Focus and Weapon Spec.

So I would not do it let Figghter have their schitk.

And Casters do not need more toys they are all ready on top of the food chain of power.

And before you say range guys need more love they in second chair right next to casters.

Those feats are also teamwork feats, meaning both you and an ally must take them, and you must be in the right positions (in this case, flanking an opponent together). This is much more situational than an always on bonus to attacks and damage.

They are better... in their scenario. They are not objectively better. Especially not for small parties, or ranged characters, or parties with only one melee character.

It is a slight hit to the Fighter's combat superiority, but is probably fine. The above suggestion of letting Fighters focus/specialize in weapon groups and maybe limiting non Fighters to a single specialization would help offset the hit.

Sovereign Court

Are fighters superior in combat right now? A lot of people seem to think that paladins, rangers and barbarians are already more powerful than fighters.

And while I like the idea of allowing fighters to apply Focus/Specialization to an entire Weapon Training group, keep in mind that it doesn't make them all that more powerful, just a bit more flexible.

Regarding Outflank: the bonus is nice, but to really use it 2+ people in the party need it, AND they need to be in position; that's a lot of feats and a lot of circumstantial.

Why not. Just remove all prerequesites from feats that make it special to some class or group of classes. If done all the way the fighter will benefit.

Arcane strike? no more requirement to be an arcane caster.
Style feats? No more imp. unarmed combat.
Aspect of the beast? No more wildshape needed.
Horse master, no more expert trainer needed.

This is just to name a few. If you remove all those requirements, sure you should remove the fighter only from weapon specialization, too. If not, why should you? Fighters need some love, too.

That's how my GM does it. Speaking as one of the group's two fighters, I have no problem with it.

If I were to open it up then I would follow this suggestion. Fighters still get a bump but others could gain at least some of the benifit.

I agree. Everyone gets their special bonuses, and there's no reason the Fighter's bonuses should bet spread around to everyone else.

Barbarians = Rage = bonus when they're angry
Paladins = Smite = bonus against evil
Ranger = Favored Enemy = bonus against preferred enemies
Fighter = Weapon Training & Specialization = bonus when using their preferred weapon

you could do tha, but bear in mind that those are the Fighter's class abilities.

Think of them less as feats and more as Rogue Talents or Rae Powers.

You could also make Sneak Attack or Rage or Smite Evil or any other class ability available to any class, and I think it would be comparable.
