Amped shield on allies

Rules Discussion

I was lurking on reddit looking for posts about this argument and I just happend to found one.

At first I was interested in just the first question, but reading the others I realized that there are several possibilities.

I have recently started playing an oscillating wave for AV, and I was wondering whether I might have been able to provide assistance to my whole party without a secondary healer instead ( currently we have a warpriest, that would like to reroll a different character ).

Anyway, what's your take on this subject?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

going strictly RAW here (no idea about the RAI):

you can indeed cast on multiple targets, each target is a separate action and separate sustain and separate focus point since it's a different spell.

you can't "switch" the target during the sustain, you will have to Cast the spell on a new target.

if the 3rd layer breaks on any of the targets, you can't cast again the spell.

you can keep sustaining the spell though even if you have broken the 3rd layer on a target since Sustain is different than Cast.

---

Which by RAW would mean that given enough actions you can keep shield up on up to 3 targets, and use up to 2 layers on 2 of them and 3 layers on the 3rd one. (given enough rounds to get all those reactions since shield blocking eats your reaction and you can only do so once per round effectively)

...And you can regain AC bonus by sustaining on the next turn after breaking a layer, if there are some left, yes.
