"Lesser races." Yeah...Andius will love you guys.

Goblin Squad Member

Updated the list, thanks :)

Can't say I approve of the beardless looking down on races that contain real men. Were all elves so proud of themselves I might be ashamed to admit my elven heritage, but then I suppose if all elves were so proud I never would have been born. Anyway, as usual I will stand behind all who are righteous when they come under threat from evil. Perhaps you will think more of the "lesser races" if you are put in a position where you need to fight alongside us, and see what we are capable of.

Goblin Squad Member

Damn it, so many characters I would love to play. I've always wanted to try out an Elven supremacist, and this sound like exactly the kind of place to play one.

Guess I will need to seriously consider making an alt for this one.

Goblin Squad Member

Just make sure you don't setup base to close to Shadow-Haven. We have a number of elves (my character included) who have come to the Echo Woods to get away from Elvin Supremacy & their short-sighted ideology.

So exciting! I want to play a CG elf ranger that would love a settle in the Echo Wood! I don't mind a leadership role, though most of my time will be adventuring, exploring the Echo Wood, and being a soldier. I volunteer my services as a protector of this new settlement as we don't want our watchtower to fall! I can also escort anyone needing assistance to and from the Crusader Road. The gatherers of the needed materials may need protection as well.

Welcome APOPHIS1989. Anyone else interested?

Due to the recent Guild Land Rush Promotion, if anyone is interested in forming a guild of elves for Taur-im-Duinath, I will upgrade my pledge to the guild level, provided I can find 4 members to pay their share of guild membership to me via PayPal ($83.33).

I already have myself and one other person.

Greetings Mourn Blackhand. While the Keepers of the Circle do not necessarily support your views regarding non-elven races, we nevertheless respect your own right to hold such views. We would be happy to have our elven Keepers and Wardens interact with Taur-im-Duinath. Please note that should the need arise our Keepers of the Circle Chancery is now open for any foreign envoys that might wish to parlay with us.

Hello Guys,

Like the concept, not sure which kind of elf I'll be playing yet, but I applied through the Goblinworks Guild charter.

Also Wayne, be aware that the registration on the Guild forum at vonschlickproductions.com seems to be broken.

I followed the instructions and used the contact form to request an account here: http://www.vonschlickproductions.com/index.php/contact-us

But when I submitted my request, I got a "404 - Category not found" error message :(

Goblin Squad Member

I sent you a PM with your information.

Thanks,

Mourn

Just curious, is there a specific reason you don't want to accept TN characters?

Goblin Squad Member

As long as it fits the rules its fine, but when the PFO first started we had to pick an alignment block that was acceptable. I admit though that I haven't kept up very well with their updates.

Do we have some documented rules regarding the alignment block requirements ? Would that mean that a Company/Faction cannot accept any alignment among it's members ?

In general, Characters must be within one Alignment Step of their Company or their Settlement. If you have a Lawful Good Settlement, then the Characters who reside there must be Lawful Good, Neutral Good, or Lawful Neutral. Same for Characters and the Companies they belong to. Also, Sponsored Companies must be within one step of the Settlement that sponsors them.

Alignment and Reputation is the place to look if you want more information.

Liberty's Edge Goblin Squad Member

Indeed, any settlement that allows both LG and CE is asking for trouble.

Thanks for the clarification, I did not review all the blog posts and wish there was some more explicit index to look for this kind of very useful hint.

Anyway, if I understand well, because of the one-step rule, almost any alignment is possible in a settlement except the opposite for non-neutral alignments.

If I take our exemple, the Taur-Im-Duinath settlement being aligned CG, it could accept NG or CN Chartered companies who themselves could accept members one step away (LG and TN or TN and CE respectively). Therefore we would end up with a CG settlement that could work with any alignment except LE, LN and NE.

So to answer Pax Shane Gifford's question, there's no mechanical/game reason why Taur-Im-Duinah could not work with TN characters. We'll probably adapt the charter, after all the Company and Settlement are a work in progress that the members need to refine.

TEO HTRajan wrote:

Not necessarily, remember that the ethos of the Settlement will be to regroup and protect elven-kind (and possibly some elven friends). An LG Elf and a CE Elf in Taur-Im-Duinath will identify themselves as elves before all, if their respective alignment were so defining and structuring for their behavior and identity before their race, they would not settle in Taur-Im-Duinath but would have joined other settlements who focus more on this. An LG Elf will certainly accept the first law of a chaotic settlement which is that there are not much law, also we're in the River Kingdoms. For a CE Elf it's even easier, obviously he won't be stupid enough to commit crimes in plain sight and certainly avoid being ousted or punished by the settlement who is Good-aligned. Aside the game mechanics about reputation and alignment, CE and LG inhabitants of the settlement will be good RP matter. After all the Elven race is not made of clones but individual personalities ...

Your settlement is going to be very interesting. As both an Elf and a Warden within the Keepers I would like to extend my hand to you in friendship. When Taur first came on to the scene here I reached out as an Ambassador for my organization to yours. I would do so again.

Guild Recruitment & Helpful Links contains a list of all the Goblinworks Blog Discussion Threads with a brief description of the content of each blog. There should be a link to the blog itself in those discussion threads, but Ryan may be too busy working on Alpha to have gotten them all fixed since they reorganized. If the direct link doesn't work, you can look at the date of the Blog Discussion Thread to see when the blog was posted, and that should help you find it fairly quickly.

"Work with", yes, but those Characters won't be able to be Members of the Settlement, or of Companies that are officially Sponsored by the Settlement (which requires Company Members to also be Settlement Members, I believe).

Yeah, I've wondered how that works. If all members of a Company 'sponsored' or 'chartered' by a settlement automatically become members of that settlement what happens when some of the members are within one alignment step of the company, but not the settlement? Also, does this means that companies can only be 'sponsored' by a single settlement... since otherwise all of their members would also be members of all the settlements sponsoring them?

That might explain why goblinworks expects companies to remain small in comparison to settlements... because settlements can include multiple companies, but companies can only be involved with one settlement. I suppose a really large company could build PoIs all over the map and never accept sponsorship from any settlement, but it then seems doubtful they could develop the top level skills.

Hello Lorhayden, I'm in no position to answer you but I'm sure we'll be considering your proposition shortly. We are just trying to clarify the practical aims and position of the guild before we start any political / diplomatic interactions.

Ah true we have an issue here, I re-read the Alignement/Reputation stuff and it's clear we have a conflicting situation. Depending on the importance a player will put on his RP and the restriction on the Core Alignment imposed by his settlement this could mean either that characters will have to change their core alignment or be precluded from joining because of the alignment of the settlement. Interesting...

One would be surprised to find Elves congregating in this fringe part of the River Kingdoms, but here they are: There is a settlement somewhere deep in the western part of the Echo Woods. They call it “Taur-Im-Duinaith” or “Forest-among-the-rivers” in their tongue.
There are many rumors about their presence; some say they are just a loose companionship of Forlorn Elves trying to find stable friendships among themselves; others say that they're a coterie of Elven Wizards searching one of their ancient forgotten city full of magical artefacts. But the most frequent hypothesis -typical of the River Kingdoms- is a good old political debate about conspiracies and external influences: those Elves would be a conservative faction banished to this remote place by queen Telendia following a feud in Kyonin, or on the opposite an expedition sent with her benediction to extend the reach of Kyonin in the River Kingdoms and increase her pressure on the Seven Arches Druids.
Only one thing is certain, they stick among themselves and avoid contact with non-Elves unless dictated by trade or territory matters. A few humans or more likely half-elves seems to be part of their community, but they are druids or rangers spending more time in the forest than in taverns speculating about the politics of the River Kingdoms.
Some accuse Taur Im Duinath of giving protection even to wanted criminals as long as they are Elves, but most of the neighboring communities and settlements recognize that they are a force for good, the Elven rangers being known to fight evil denizens of the forest that would otherwise threaten human settlements. Basically they would be seen as good neighbors if not for their radical insistence that the forest and nature be not disturbed, to the point that timbering outposts and extensive gaming operations seem impossible in their area.

Hello fellow PFO backers (Gurgeh here I will be using Nolondil as an alias from now on regarding Taur Im Duinath matters). I don't know if you intend at some point to play an Elf or nature-themed character, but I hope that you will all welcome an Elven-themed settlement to spice up the flavor of our environment. If it's the case and if you have not yet voted for a guild in the landrush, please consider supporting us. Remember that voting for a guild in the landrush do not imply you have to be part of it, you can ensure that we have an Elven settlement for the EE by voting for us and still be part of a Company that is not even chartered with Taur Im Duinath.

Regarding the profile of our settlement, this is a work in progress that will be made by the members of its Chartered Companies. The only certain common ground being that Taur Im Duinath will be an Elven Settlement aligned CG and focusing its development toward magic and nature (in short, any archetypal Elven skills and classes).

As for the politics and interaction with other game factions, all of the rumors above could be orchestrated and more, it will really depend on the players decisions and their numbers. Thanks to the Chartered Companies mechanism of PFO and the chaotic nature of Elves, Taur Im Duinath could very well harbor isolationist elven supremacists, interventionist nature extremists, benevolent protectors of life and liberty or wizards focused on their research and interested in trading knowledge or magical artefacts.

If you have any ideas and want to contribute creating an Elven faction in this game do not hesitate to join or simply vote in the landrush for Taur Im Duinath.

I apologize for the inconvenience. The Keepers of the Circle relocated to a new site. Nolondil has established a thread in our Chancery; note that it is not open to the general public, but we can process multiple individuals as Ambassadors to gain access.

There is a lot to like about this group and I highly recommend it. Heavy Roleplay theme, Chaotic Good settlement for the Echo Wood, players on both sides of the Atlantic and of course, dedicated to positive gameplay.

Hopefully there will be a dwarf equivalent
