Since Vermin are mindless, are they immune to the Awaken spell?

Grand Lodge

Vermin are not animals.

You would need the Vermin Heart feat, or something similar.

Also, it is a transmutation effect, not mind-effecting.

Vermin are immune to awaken, but not because they are mindless. Awaken only works on creatures of the animal type, or trees.

Grand Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Vermin Heart feat allows your spells and abilities that effect Animals, to effect Vermin.

So, it's doable.

Awesome! Thanks all!

The amazing thing is that Awaken can be cast on trees without taking a feat. Where is the logic of that?

Does anyone have stats for an Awakened tree? They should have Con scores.

You'd use the animated object rules; it would vary according to the size of the tree.

I know that part. I was specifically talking about the Con score, which animated objects don't have.

I see: It's based on a Construct (meaning it has no Con score), but gains the Plant type (which means it needs a Con score).

The Construct rules say: "Any DCs or other statistics that rely on a Constitution score treat a construct as having a score of 10 (no bonus or penalty)."

So I'd suggest that the Awakened tree should default to a Con of 10.

That sounds like the right answer... though shockingly low for a giant animated tree.

Don't forget bonus HP based on the construct size.
