Wormwood voyage question

Skull & Shackles

I was curious as to why it takes about 2 weeks for the Wormwood to reach the fever sea from Port Peril. By ship's speed rules, it should only take a few days.

or do I have this wrong?

I'm sure it's just narrative and nobody bothered to calculate it for real. But from my reading the route is a little circuitous and you can throw in some calm wind days for measure.

Think of it this way, Harrigan has no real set course, he's got a new crew to sort out and get ship shape and at the same time he's moving up and down the shipping lanes looking for prey so ship speed is not going to be fixed.

This pretty well sums it up. Plus the weather wasn't too great for some of it, and that'll slow a ship down.

More generally speaking, I wouldn't expect the narrative to follow the rules all that closely. In this case, the ship speed rules are there to guide the players' actions, not to restrict what the narrative can do.
