I'm in love with your builds, RD. They blend power with flavor in just the right amounts.

I am a pretty old-school player, and back when I started playing (1993, I believe it was) I was all about the roleplay and the flavor, but I always loved the powerful people, too. As an example, I always played human to not have a level cap *roll eyes*. I had a very good friend who I played with, and the two of us would usually swap out DM duty for our group from story arc to story arc. He was always very character and story driven. When we moved to different states and I found/created my new gaming group, I fell into the ROLLplay trap and went full powergamer. I'm not proud of it, but my group just didn't care as much for the "fluff." I'm working to change that now, and you are an inspiration.

1) I agree his builds are wonderful!

2) I feel so young now...

CHARACTER UPDATES
- Nudel the Protector
- Sela Kurn

Sela Kurn has had his equipment adjusted so as to be more appropriate for his level. You will find him a smidgen more nasty now, especially since he can now apply up to ten levels of free metamagic to his spells with his staff of the master granting him lots more versatility. Nudel finally got her link fixed.

Grand Lodge

Excellent.

Sweet...

Having discreetly discussed their assault they wasted no more time. Aros kicked in the door. The thick oak wood proved to be no match for his might and gave way easily, revealing a small study room beyond, barely lit by a small hooded lantern. Strewn everywhere were papers, parchments, scrolls, and old books. On the far end of the room was a small desk and chair. A tall, figure with a large plumed hat and long ornate robes stood by the desk, peering over a dusty old tome, his back to them. Knowing the evils this man was capable of, the intruders wasted no time. Karen unleashed two lightning fast blasts of fire, each one hot enough to melt solid stone. They soared across the room and exploded mere feet from the scholar's back. The room flickered brightly for a moment as the flames wrapped and coiled around the old man, trying to reach him with their deadly hot tendrils to no avail.

Before the raging hellfire was even halfway to its intended target Sandrain had already called for a fell curse to fall upon the wicked soul before him. A ripple of divine power emanated through the air between his holy symbol and his intended target. Just as the fire exploded about the room, so did his power. Sandrain collapsed to his knees screaming in agony, clutching at his eyes as fountains of blood began to poor from their dessicated ruin. The vile fiend had somehow turned his god's might against his own servant, forever blinding him.

Kressel was next. She called forth the powers of the natural world, augmenting the terrible mold that had slowly encroached upon the small library over the years. A choking cloud of lethal spore began to form, but the cloaked figure muttered something she did not comprehend, and just as quickly and quietly as it had formed, so too did it dissipate harmlessly.

Acting in near unison with his comrades, Aros charged, sword in hand. He never made it. The protective ward that Sandrain had placed on him before their breach shattered and turned against him, driving shards of magical energy into his flesh causing him to stagger in pain. He dropped his sword to the floor as his body was continually wracked with waves of horrific spasms. Though he could barely move, Aros could clearly see that the others had been similarly incapacitated by the Vizier's fell power.

The brief spell battle had charred the walls, obliterated an untold number of ancient works, and destroyed the lantern--plunging the area into darkness, but where a few ember motes still burned. Only then, did Sela Kurn turn away from his studies to face them. His glowing blue eyes fought back the shadows, creating an eerie effect on his countenance.

"I believe," he said in a disturbingly cold tone, "that you have all made a grave error."

The Master of Magic's arcane chants and the horrific screams of their fellows was the last thing any of them would ever hear...

The mechanics behind the scene:
As would any good abjurer, Sela knew the intruders were coming long before they arrived at his door. A simple alarm spell saw to that.

Karen's empower intensified maximized fireball and quickened maximized empowered fireball were each turned away by Sela's globe of invulnerability, burning not but the paper and wood about them.

The cleric, Sandrain, recognizing Sela's abjuration, used a heightened blindness spell and bypassed the ward entirely, but was turned back via spell turning instead.

The samsaran druid, Kressel, hoped to use cloudkill against him, targeting his weak save, but Sela Kurn counterspelled it as an immediate action.

By the time Aros was able to charge, it was already Sela's turn to act. He cast a quickened greater dispel magic in an area, bringing it down upon the whole party, dispelling several of their buffs and turning their own magic against them, causing them to become stunned and also lowering their saving throws against his next attack.

Whatever spell or spells he used next to dispatch them, I leave up to your imagination.

I. Love. It.

I thought you guys probably wanted a bard, so here ya' go. I may do another shortly.

NEW CHARACTERS
Thom Merillin and Perrin Aybara - 8th-level human entertainer and 6th-level human bodyguard), famed entertainer and his testubo-wielding bodyguard whose teamwork is nigh-on legendary

CHARACTER UPDATES
- James Mycen had his +1 dagger converted to a plain old masterwork dagger and gained the benevolent armor enchantment in its place (making him a much better bodyguard).

Grand Lodge

By the way, my offer still stands.

Awesome work.

I never realized that Tetsubo were Exotic Weapons...

Grand Lodge

Cracked Opalescent White Pyramid Ioun Stone will allow you to treat one weapon as a martial weapon for only 1,500 gp.

I understand that. I guess I am lost on why the Great Club isn't a Simple Weapon & the Tetsubo the Martial Version of it...

Fine.

NEW NPC CHARACTER!
Bread Crumbs - CR 1 kobold trapsmith and chef, a cunning kobold outcast so named for luring his victims into elaborate ambushes with food.

I love abjurers. Of any kind. Yours is superb :)

One of this days, I'll make an abjurer, specialist in counterspelling. I'd call it "Jace, the Memory Adept" :)

Finally wore you down didn't he...

@gustavo: I have a Wizard based on Jace. He isn't allowed into most campaigns after a certain point.

Mayhaps you could find me a better character portrait for him in return?

RD

It sounds like if you had more art, you could produce more characters, right? Hint, hint!

Have you heard of Storn Cook? He's a great artist who introduced himself to another board I read. He posted some of his fantasy genre if you want to build some more of your great characters. He also posted his email if you want to contact him.

Meh. not my preferred style.

I was referring specifically to art for Bread Crumbs.

I can't believe I never noticed this thread until today. RD, your characters are phenomenal. If I had a hat, it would be totally be tipped to you.

Grand Lodge

Maybe this for Breadcrumbs?

Personally, I would prefer to draw my own, scan it, and upload it, but that would be some time from now.

CHARACTER UPDATES
- Sloy Garak

Sloy Garak, everyone's favorite tengu, has taken on the new Seeker archetype. This complements his ungodly high Perception and makes him far more versatile, allowing him to fill the roles of not only the arcane caster and the healer as before, but also the rogue trap finder as well!

Sloy wont open.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Should be fixed now.

Ok it opened up now... Wonder why things seem to not be uploading properly for anyone.

Filezilla. It's free, but kinda crappy. Sometimes, it doesn't upload the full file (even though it says it does). I have to compare the original file's size to that of the uploaded one to make sure it finished properly. If not, I upload it again.

Sometimes even that doesn't work (though I think that's because I run out of server space and have to make room).

Mine was just uploading the AotG Over-World Map to Deviant Art. It took me 15 tries for it to correctly upload.

I was looking over your lvl 9. edleena dragon disciple and was curious with what armor you had given her. The only +4 AC I saw was Chain Shirt but that have 20% ASF, so I was curious if she had enchanted armor or if you just excepted the penalty?

Or is this just assuming constant mage armor?

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Yep. Looks to be mage armor.

I read somewhere that you made a good poisoner, but couldn't find the link.thanks

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Did you find him then, or should I point it out?

How is Sloy getting a +43 /50 perception at level 15?

I'm seeing....

eyes of eagle..+5
Skill focus perception...+3
Racial bonus.. +2
+8 wisdom modi
15 ranks equals HD
+3 class skill
Total: +36 perception

Grizzly the Archer wrote:

.

.

15 ranks
08 Wisdom modifier
06 Skill Focus
05 Eyes of the Eagle
04 Alertness
03 Class skill bonus
02 Racial bonus
43 TOTAL

It could have been even higher (~45) with different traits, feats and magical items.

Missed alertness for the +4.

And the +7 for traps comes from?

Ravingdork wrote:

Can you point him out? The "thanks" was in advance.

Grizzly the Archer wrote:

You also missed that Skill Focus was giving +6 not +3.

+7 for Traps is from Seeker Archetype.

CHARACTER UPDATES
- Nudel (yet again)

Nudel the Protector has now become Nudel the Devourer. I switched her alignment from NG to NE, replaced her Bodyguard and Combat Reflexes feats with Improved Natural Attack and Furious Finish, and changed her preferred form from stegosaurus to behemoth hippopotamus.

She is now capable of dealing an automatic 310 damage on a successful melee attack, making her far more deadly, if slightly less versatile, than she was before. She readily fills the role of fast, hard hitting tank.

How is she able to wear her armour without penalties? Also isn't Benevolent a Weapon Enchantment?

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Additional changes: I have removed the benevolent armor enchantment as she is no longer a "protector." The money has instead gone into some gloves of swimming and climbing. I have also reallocated her skill ranks in Heal to Climb and Swim.

Azaelas Fayth wrote:

When her armor is melded into her wild shape form, she is no longer wearing it (as it is melded), and thus doesn't take any of the penalties for wearing armor.

Azaelas Fayth wrote:

It's both. When placed on a weapon, it increases the aid another bonuses made to aid attacks. When placed on armor, it increases the aid another bonuses made to aid AC.

I thought they still took the penalties but didn't get the bonuses unless it was wild enchanted.

& I totally missed the Armour version.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

It is wild enchanted.

Armor version? You mean the dragonhide?

I started a thread a while ago discussing the matter.

I meant Benevolent having a Armour Version.

But what of her unshifted form?

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

She takes a lot of penalties when wearing her armor in unshifted form.

Hmm... Maybe my math is off...

Any interest in other classes like Dragonrider, Hellion, etc... from 3PP? I'd be willing to do a few but they wouldn't have cool art. I'd also need a refresher on the point buy and hp assumptions used in the thread. I also doubt anything I came up with would be as optimized as some of the other builds in the thread.

Anyway, 3PP classes, anyone want to see them or post one?

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

I'll leave it up to other posters to decide whether or not they want to see 3PP characters in this thread. I personally have no interest in anything 3PP.

I have a question about the way you DM with these NPCs (I'm new to pathfinder). When the PCs meet an NPC, do they know the NPC is a "level 20 fighter"? Or do they just know it's some strong looking dude with a sword? How can players evaluate what NPCs they can or cannot kill if they don't even know their level?

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Except for what they can see, or what they've heard from other NPCs/divination spells/what not, they can't.

Ravingdork wrote:

Is that generally accepted practice? If I started DM'ing for some new guys, would I be silly for telling them the level and class of every NPC they met (assuming the NPC wasn't purposefully concealing it)?
