How do they choose the iconics for the adventure paths?

Pathfinder Adventure Path General Discussion

I'm curious to know how the paizo staff chooses the iconic characters for their adventure paths.Anyone have an idea?

Names out a hat?

A magical hat.

I think it depends on the theme of the AP. I remember Skulls and Shackles, most characters were Neutral or Chaotic Neutral.

* Theme of the AP + which fit in it.
* Coolness.
* changes might happen as well (like in Jade Regent).

We generally pick the iconics that are both the most appropriate thematically, weighted toward iconics that we haven't used in the last one or two Adventure Paths.

We don't really factor rules into things at all apart from trying not to have an all spellcaster or all non-spellcaster party... but that could happen some day.

What about it?

I've just assigned the covers (and in so doing selected the iconics for that Adventure Path) just last Friday. Way too soon to reveal who the four are for that one, since the selection can still change.

Just that a few months ago it was: "Right now; Paladin, Cleric, Inquisitor and Bard, these are subject to changes" , kinda fit 'All Casters'... so at the time was it a consideration?

Nope. It wasn't. Those four were picked because they were right for adventure path, aesthetically. (And for the record, although paladins have spells... they're full BAB classes and don't really count in my book as "casters.")
