Nope. My local region deserves the best convention put on by the best organizer. And until he (or she) arrives, they can settle for me doing my darnedest to emulate greatness. :-)

Seriously, hope y'all have a great time! Oh, I almost forgot. Did anyone mention that Fort Wayne is kinda in the great lakes lake-effect snow belt...and you're going to be there in January. Hrmmm, I'm sure it'll be fine ;-) walks away with an evil grin

I would be willing to run Eyes of the Ten if it gets scheduled

OK, time to get the last 5 adventures in for my polearm master so Wes can return the favor from Storval Stairs....

If they do a kid's track it'd be pretty awesome if David could have your daughter run that. My son got to play one session on Sunday at Gencon and it was the highlight of the con I think. I think an early-teen would probably have fun teaching a handful of kids how to kill monsters and take their stuff.

It certainly would be awesome.

Liberty's Edge

Well I'm guaranteed two days of it off due to how I arrange my work schedule for my home game. So most likely I will show up for some of it Friday and perhaps persuade a friend we should visit on Sunday. Since I live in Fort Wayne my cost is just to get in really.

I look forward to checking this convention out. I really miss attending cons as I always seem to get scheduled during them. I very rarely play at Cons. I just enjoy walking around and having conversations with random people about random games or characters.

The "funnest" thing at Winter Fantasy is to take a walk around the block in shorts and a T-shirt and laugh at the looks you get from the locals. It's even better with no shoes if there's snow on the ground. You can leave bear footprints ;)

Lol. probably not. I've only ever tpk'd twice in PFS. Once was in a mod in the days when that didn't count. The other was part 2 of Runecarved - also doesn't count.

The one time I ran Eyes, one character died. I'm not Kyle, but I can always aspire to his greatness

If you're organizing it, move the date!

Or just re-resign as VC and come join the fun!

I'm seeing if I can wrangle up a few days at WF.

I never understood why Winter War has tended to be the same weekend as DDXP/Winter Fantasy. Especially given that Chicago is the same distance from both. Some people want to go to both...

Liberty's Edge

Well I'm all sort of excited now! I went to this when it was DDXP a couple years ago and was really impressed. Now that I've gone over to Pathfinder and knowing that PFS will be there I'm planning on being there all 4 days. Oh and the fact that its only an hour and a half away on US30 is even better! :-)

TIme was that Winter Fantasy was on Superbowl weekend. So, for the tragics among us, or just those who had a long way to fly, would wrap up the con and "retire" to the sports bar to watch the game. Or at least watch the ads :) It was kinda sad when WF moved to be not on Superbowl weekend.

I'm organizing PFS, not the whole con. :-(

I agree. I know I would attend both. I have expressed my concerns to the convention owner and he does not believe that Winter War will be negatively affected by Winter Fantasy.

One of the reasons, given to me, why WW and WF are on the same weekend is avoiding conflict with the Super Bowl.

Silver Crusade 5/5

I would have gone to WinterWar for at least a day had it not shown up on the same weekend as WF.

I've heard this before but fail to grasp the concept. How is it a conflict when the idea is to hit the sports bar at the end of the con? It can't be cos everyone wants to rush home and watch the game in their living room, or can it?

5/5

I'm a bit tempted to blow off Winter War and keep on driving to Winter Fantasy. If it would mean getting in on EotT with Wes running it would be nearly impossible to pass up. Sorry Bob. :)

Silver Crusade 4/5

1 person marked this as a favorite.

So given that Winter War and Winter Fantasy are both the same weekend, and they're both about a 3-4 hour drive from where I live just north of Chicago, I'm looking for more detail to help me pick which to attend (assuming I can do either, which it's still too early to know for sure).

Winter War's web site is pretty good. Winter Fantasy's web site is surprisingly lacking in any sort of useful information. Other than the dates, and the name of the convention center, is there any other information available about this thing yet? Like perhaps hotel information, session times (even if the specific scenarios aren't listed yet), etc?

Watching the Super Bowl in a sports bar sucks. I watched the 2009 Super Bowl in a sports bar in Jacksonville while I was there for a homicide investigation class. It is much better when you host a Super Bowl party at your house and invite friends and family over starting at 5-6 hours before kick off.

After a point, the size of a convention stops mattering. Once you have, say, forty PFS players, and a choice of several different scenarios, and a whole con abuzz around them, and at least five good dealers, there's not that much more bang for the buck for a convention 3 times as large.

I haven't attended Winter Fantasy in decades, not since the heyday of Living City. I imagine it's quite a bit different now, and I hope to get there some year.

I attended Winter War last year, and I had fun just about every session, GMing or playing. I'm hoping to run a level or two of Thornkeep this year.

Ah, I see. The only times I've been in the US when it was Superbowl weekend was when it was also WF. so, no home-based parties to compare it with.

Slot times and hotel info is up. Just not what games are running in what slots, and no signup open yet.

Info is at http://wintfan.baldmangames.com/

I said I'd be happy to run EotT, but there's no guarantee it will be offered (but Dave reads this thread so fingers crossed).

And thanks for the vote of confidence. I believe there are better GMs than me out there, and some of them will be at WF.

Thank you.

Yay. Just talked to my mother. She is putting in for the friday of it off so we can attend together. She wants to game at a convention a lot so I told her we can make PFS characters and play it for the first time. She was reluctant as she dislikes the restrictions, but finally assented just so she can play.

I got her to agree so she can play by pointing out I already own the entire current rule line, several pdfs from golarian. So she has plenty of options outside of races.

So we will be there and even better since we live in Fort Wayne there is no hotel cost. We just have to pay the bus fare to get there.

Liberty's Edge 5/5

Yay for discounted airfares.
Now just need rego to open up.
Really getting amped up for this show - I haven't been for four years and the "kids" really were kids last time they came.
Squee!

Friday off confirmed so three days of the con for me!

David I'm an Indiana VO and one of the closest to Ft Wayne at that so consider me reporting for duty!

hrmm .. sign-up information still not found ... any idea when it'll be up?

Liberty's Edge

My mom has gotten the friday off. So now we need to settle on whether we plan to game or not. She is hesitating as she'll be able to join my game that night.

The Exchange

Hmm... I just might be able to come to this.

Judge sign-ups should go live tonight (announcement on the website, twitter, facebook, judge pool list, here, etc.)

If not then you guys can hold my feet to the fire. As soon as I nail down the PFS schedule registration for the show itself will go live next week.

David, will you be allowing people to sign up to assist in PFS HQ?

I plan to sign up to be a Tier 1 GM and my wife normally does the HQ thing. however some sites do not have a function for that type of signup.

Thank you
Chris Laurie

Non-judge help sign-up is built into the system (and it has details on it as well). I'm not sure I'll need help in PFS HQ specifically but I do need plenty of non-judge help to make the show happen.

wondered why it was getting a little warmer. Just waiting for one e-mail back and I'm good. I want the PFS part of the sign-up to be as close to final as I can get it (so judges know what they are signing up for).
