Hah! Dungeon AP? Not exactly... its a Diplomacy AP!

Shattered Star

Seems like the major problems can be mnostly negotiated, rather than doing it sword and fireball thru consequtive rooms in a dungeon as the AP appears to be marketed.

Yes, an option to talk with the girls.
An option to go runelord, and from there negotiate with the factions. Going friendly with the monsters is a bit less obvious... but ohwell.
Talk thru the whole missing oracle and other problems.

Not too much actual battle that cannot be avoided by being even moderately diplomatic.

A Colossal++ thanks for that, I love the diplo, but wish it could have been actually marketed as such, rather than figurimg it out later. But then, I dont know what the rest will look like...

Liberty's Edge

Actually this is good to hear, thanks for sharing. I'll be on the lookout for these situation when I being reading next month, prepping for a 2013 Campaign.

Silver Crusade

This gets dialed up to 11 in the third book. One of the groups I'm going to be running this AP for are going to be really happy about how this AP has actually turned out so far.

Diplomacy has always been an option for dungeon scenarios. In fact pure hack and slash is a newer phenomena, as in the pre-published D&D games like Blackmoor and Greyhawk just killing everything in sight was a bad idea.

Spoiler:
Multiple gray factions everywhere in Kaer Maga

A man who has become a monster but still retains enough of his humanity to reason and ask for the player's aid in getting closure.

A soldier fiercely loyal to a lost cause and the troops under her command, and who finds herself in danger of losing all of the latter.

A monstrous tribe on the edge of extinction, awaiting either a final push or an open hand to pull them back.

Silver Crusade

Book 4 hits and the trend is holding true.

It should also be noted that there is a huge cast of NPCs begging for PCs to invest in them rather than pushing against it. I have some inbound players that are very excited about that prospect.

Seriously, if anyone is worried that this AP is going to be light on RP opportunities and is just going to be a dungeon grind, it's well worth giving a look. Play it with a group that actually gets invested in the setting and the NPCs, and you're going to get a lot out of this one.

Being able to do a dungeon-crawl campaign and showing that it doesn't have to be Zero Roleplaying is one of my secret reasons for doing Shattered Star, as it turns out...

Well, if one of my Jade Regent campaigns implodes via Fatal Existance Failure of the PCs, I'll definitely give this one a second look. Although I already told one group of that extra cool trap in module two, because I expected to never run this AP with them. ^^

And two players got so excited seeing the Hansel and Gretel trailer that they now want to play twin Inquisitors... I wonder if the Irrisen or the Worldwound AP would be better suited for them.

While those two sound like a natural fit for Reign of Winter, there's one more light-spoiler you may want to consider concerning Shattered Star:

Spoiler:
Female players potentially finally get their own kinda-sorta Larry Vaus in Book 4. ;)

While I'm still planning on changing some things just to change the action/exploration venues from dungeony environs, the way things have turned out it feels like there's less pressure to do so. AND it's gotten much harder to find a spot to change, because there's so much spread throughout the campaign that I want to keep intact as-is!
