I thought the season opener was kind of a let down. It was nice to see Rick and the others put together a solid plan, even the part with giving surrender by the Saviors a chance.
Didn't like seeing Gregory not die. I really wanted to see that little weasel get eaten.
Didn't like seeing Father Gabriel trapped with Negan. I have a feeling that won't end well for Gabriel, and I was really starting to like him.
Overall, I was bummed at the lack of death.

Well, as far as mid-season finales go.....that was really f+*@ing lame.
Eugene switching sides again?!? And now Negan will know Dwight's the traitor?!? Lame.
And looks like the kid playing Carl found something else to move on to. Maybe he saw the writing on the wall.....?
Overall, I think this season has been pretty weak. I'm not actually certain I'll still be watching when things pick back up.

I dunno. Seeing as it's becoming increasingly unlikely that the next arc from the comic will be adapted, I could see how killing off Carl makes sense. His actor is getting older, after all, and the alternative is to wrap this war up this season or the next. Possible, but I can see the writers milking Negan.
Don't get me wrong, this season has been a trainwreck either way. Also, I really wish they would stop this whole "midseason finale" thing. But I digress.

You mean trash woman surprise show up and neegan rescue?
Hey, watching the Garbage Pail Kids go down the Dispos-all was good fun. I was kinda hoping Jadis would just disappear and show up down the road as Alpha, but I don't think that's gonna happen. Too bad. Dunno what she's doing with Negan... better be good.
As for last night's ep. The bio-warfare ploy was weak in the comic and not all that great here, though the homage to Night of the Living Dead was alright. and although initially WTF? leaving the front door open, they did talk about the heat and having personally tried to sleep on a hot sweaty southern summer night- yeah, you'd leave the door open if at all possible.
The Henry thing was full on stupid though. I won't argue there. Woulda been bearable if he'd shot Gregory.

The longer the piece-of-shoe characters live, the more gratification derived from their gruesome demises.
At this point though ... they need to wrap up the entire show this season and be done with it. It's pretty embarrassing that I fast forward through about a third of the show to get ahead of the boring parts. Some of the recent episodes only took me ten minutes to 'watch'. Blecch.

And last week's finale felt like a series finale. No dangling threads that I can remember, a good place to set the series aside as complete. What do you all think?
With some exceptions, I think American TV has a strong tendency to stretch TV series beyond where they need to go so long as ratings are kept up. I don't think you can ever count on a series ending just because it comes to a good place, plot-resolution wise.

Far as I am concerned, TWD is concluded, pleasantly so. Anything afterwards will feel like Babylon 5 after its initial 5 season run on Paramount Network (or whatever it became).

I think it should have been. I think the secret cabal at Hilltop with Maggie and Jesus felt inconsistent with their characters. With ratings plummeting, season 9 will probably be the end.
