I liked this last episode. Even my wife (hates Negan) enjoyed all the Negan scenes. He's delightfully assholish. (Her words)
That's as good a description as any other I've heard for Negan. And with every appearance by the character, it's pretty clear they definitely made a great choice in casting.

That was pretty f@#~ing cool.
Same with the walker lake. Great sequence.
Good job, Rosita. Way to let your emotions make you commit an act of tactical stupidity. Not only did you get another person killed (poor Olivia, she was kind of growing on me, and I hope Rosita caves in the skull of the b+~+~ who shot her), but you gave up one of the biggest advantages the Saviors didn't know about. Now they have Eugene. Not to mention, now Negan expects more supplies. Yeah, way to go.
Poor Fat Joey. I kind of felt sorry for him.
I hope Aaron gets to kill those two a**!$~#s who beat him up. Seriously, those guys were dicks.
So that dude from the Kingdom has a hidden stash. Interesting.
Carol is going soft. Morgan went soft a long time ago.
I can't wait to see that douche leader of the Hilltop get the Spencer treatment.
Negan is still a psycho dickcheese, but he's easily one of my favorite villains in a long time.
Looking forward to war.

EVERY episode needs to be planned, cut, and edited with the pacing of THAT episode.
It was a good mid-season finale. Not a cliffhanger, but definitely leading to something else.
I wish the entire half-season had been done as well. We could have gotten a lot more interesting development and story/character growth.
Aberzombie |
Well, that was interesting.....
I thought Rick and company handled their introduction to The Kingdom very well. They just sort of rolled with it, instead of being all WTF.
The mass herd slaughter was f#*!ing awesome! Exactly the kind of attack I'd expect people to come up with in a zombiepocalypse.
I thought the scene with Carol and the kid in the woods was kind of ill-fitting, disrupting the pace of the episode. Still, it was an interesting bit of character development.
Jerry f~!%ing rocks!
Gregory is a piece of shit and I look forward to seeing his inevitable end. Same with that asshat leading the Savior search party.
What the ever-loving f$&* is up with Gabriel and yet another new group (one I don't recall being in the comics, but we'll see)? Seriously, I was just starting to like that priest.
GM Niles |
AZ, don't discount the Good Father just yet, I have a feeling there's more to this story than it seems. (Remember the "mysterious stranger" back at the end of last season)
Jerry does rock. I'm gonna be sad when he dies.
I think the Carol scene was setting us up for her eventually getting back into things. Especially now that Daryl is in the Kingdom.
Gregory is indeed a douchnozzle. He'll get his...
Sasha's face the entire Kingdom scene(s) was awesome, it was a mixture of WTF and Are You Serious?
Good Episode all things considered 8/10

Yeah, I'm with Rick on that one...
Although, in considering it further, it might be the writer's trying to once again demonstrate just how powerful and dangerous the Saviors are, that Rick and company might need even more allies. Plus, Gabriel is completely unaware (as far as we know) of The Kingdom and any potential allies from that comunity.
Aberzombie |
What the ever-loving f~@+?
Otherwise, I thought introducing yet another group, especially one with such a large area, just doesn't make sense, especially with what comes after the Savior War. Still, with The Kingdom being needlessly kept out of the fight for now, I guess they need the (hopefully) cannon fodder). Still, the time it's now taken to introduce this new group might needlessly take away from what time they have this season to tell the Savior War story.
I'm glad Daryl found out about Carol and went to see her, but he should have told her the truth about what went down with the Saviors.
I'm getting tired of Morgan's holier than thou attitude. It won't work in this world.
Richard is too much of a loose cannon. That dude is going to cause a problem.
GM Niles |
Yeah I'm also not a fan of the Cult of the Trash Mound...
Seriously, when did TWD become Mad Max? "Take him to the UP UP" Really? Really?
I like the Daryl/Carol/Morgan triad of "We are killers but we don't want to be" thing going on.
Jerry is awesome.
I'll give this one a 5/10, but only because of Jerry.

Yeah, talking with my brother this morning, he threw out the Mad Max reference as well - like they were a bunch of bad Mad Max Cos-players. I suggested maybe the Jonestown chapter of the Mad Max fan club.
Jerry is one of those rare dudes who's awesome both in and out of character. He's just lovable all around.
Aberzombie |
Not bad.....
Doc Carson's cooking was....interesting. To sacrifice a doctor, even if you have a spare, is pretty ballsy and risky.
The insight into Dwight was pretty cool. I look forward to seeing his further character development.

Another pretty cool episode.....
Rosita is being an idiot. And it appears Sasha is going to join her in stupidity. I'm continuing to love Father Gabriel more.
Damn! Judith is getting big.
The Children of the Junk Yard are still creepy-annoying. I would not be unhappy if every single one of them perished.
I'm guessing Tar is finally going to spill the beans about Oceanside.
GM Niles |
Yeah, my wife and I are using Judith as a gauge for how long the apocalypse has been going on. Right now we figure shes close in age to my son (22 months) and so we figure the Zombies have been around for something like 2.5-3 years.
Also, the Chili Mac and Cheese MRE is undoubtedly the best one (I've probably eaten 500+ MRE's in my military service).
Aberzombie |
This was a really good episode. I was a bit confused at first, wondering where they were going with it, but by the end I thought it was damned good.
Saw Ben's death coming a mile away.
Lennie James' performance was awesome. I'm hoping the Morgan character finds a happy (or at least non-psychotic) middle ground between batshit crazy Morgan and Zen Warrior Monk Morgan.
I'm still not happy about the way they've deviated from Carol's comic book story, but I'm glad she knows the truth of what happened and is ready to fight. I'm also glad to see Ezekiel has finally come around.
Aberzombie |
And thus are we reminded of the perils of long-running TV shows.....
Because, yes! Sasha and Rosita were acting like complete f%*&ing morons. I mean, I thought the Children of the Junkyard were stupid. Sasha and Rosita make them look like f!*%ing tactical geniuses.
Otherwise, I really wanted to see Gregory get killed, but I think I'll have to wait a week or so for that.
And now I have to kill time until Talking Dead comes on. Stupid Badlands show.
MeanDM |
Yeah, I just googled SMG, seems she's gonna be a lead in the new Star Trek show. Good for her. Sucks that Sasha got ended in such a silly way.
I think we had a hint of Gregory's future in Maggie's speech to Daryl at the end.
AZ, I like Into the Badlands, but then I'm a fan of Kung Fu movies.
Did I miss something?
I know she locked herself in the gate and ran in leaving Rosita outside, but do we know for a fact that she died? Although based on what you said, her dying while in there makes sense.
Edit: I think this was supposed to be a response to Aberzombie. Sorry.

We don't know for a fact.....yet. It's been my assumption that's how the story would go, since the actress will be one of the leads in another, forthcoming show. My thinking is Sasha will be a substitute for Holly from the comics.
Aberzombie |
A decent lead up to the season finale.
I actually find myself wishing they had brought Oceanside more fully into the war. It certainly would have made more sense than bringing in the entirely new Children of the Junkyard. At least with Oceanside, they had a group actually from the comics. I was even kind of hoping the idiot old granny would either have a change of heart or buy the farm in the walker attack, so that the others could more fully side with Rick and company.
Poor Sasha - you thought Eugene was going to bring you something to give you one last shot at not having screwed the pooch royally. I have a feeling we'll be seeing you with a bag over your head next week.
Two Negan things: He's got an awesome way with words. His brutal opposition to rape is one of the character's few redeeming qualities.
Next week should be pretty cool.

I'm wagering on a massive body count this coming Sunday night.
My guesses (in no particular order of demise):
- Gregory
- Eugene
- Sasha (duh)
- Maggie
- Lil' A$$kicker
- Michonne
- Shiva
- Jerry
- Aaron and Eric
- Father Gabriel
- Simon
-
- ... and ...
-
- Negan.
[Vader voice] Only the Script can save Negan now ... [/Vader voice]

Doubtful. This war is going in to next season. And many of the deaths you guess at would be so far removed from the comics it would more than likely doom the show.
The Mad Comrade |
They've introduced enough new characters and badly need to get the story wrapped up without a cliffhanger. The pending writers' strike is not going to help matters much if it has the same impact as the last writers' strike. Cast members are moving on in some cases.
The impression being given is that it's only been, what, 18 months or so since the series started? Suspending disbelief only goes so far. Negan's been set up as far too despicable a villain to survive the season finale. They need to close this story. I found myself fast-forwarding through half of the episodes in season 7, stopping and rewinding if necessary to fill in any plot holes I missed.
Having said all of that, I like this portrayal of Negan. The character is powerfully written and could lead a one season spin-off on his own IMO. (Far more fun than FtWD, which will be lucky to survive season 3.)
Aberzombie |
Well, before the show started, I'd have said only one part was a surprise....
All that extra crap with Sasha was kind of lame, especially considering the very limited amount of walker Sasha we got to see, and what little effect she actually had.
Negan is still f%$$ing awesome.
I loved the entrance of Shiva and the others into the fight. F@&%ing classic.
As pretty much anyone with a brain in their head knew, only one major character death. And the war starts next October.
Aberzombie |
A couple more thoughts......
Why the f%*# did Walker Sasha walk off into the woods, exactly the opposite of what any other Walker would do? It made no f+$#ing sense. In fact, I would fully expect that gun battle to draw a shit ton of walkers.
I am now indifferent to the survival of Eugene, as much as I love the actor.
I wonder where Gregory has gone, and what the little turd has planned.
GM Niles |
Who invited those goddamn Mad Max cosplayers to my television show? They need a good damned talking to, I hate those Heapsters.
1) I continue to loath the very existence of the Junkyard people.
1a) WTF were Gargantua and Negan negotiating about 10/12 Guns? Didn't Rick say they could have all of them?
2) Shiva was awesome. Yes, unrealistic, I don't care. Awesome.
3) Jerry made it! More great scenes from him!
4) That was a piss poor gunbattle. Everyone was in the open and they still mostly all got away?
I am very meh about this Season's Finale. Very. 5/10 maybe even 4/10.
The Mad Comrade |
Season 8-A: War with Negan (written prior to the swg strike). ;)
Season 8-B: Drone cameras of the carnage, for hours. No dialog, just walkers animating and shambling around. Assorted buildings collapsing from fires. 1 or 2 cast members that didn't survive the first half of the season shambling around and nomming on an occasional passerby.
Season 6 demonstrated that the local walker populace had been devastated to the point of insignificance. The (greatly slowed) decomposition of the remaining walker population from Day 0 should soon put the mid-Atlantic region to rest.
Negan's deal with the Heapsters I believe to have been (a) keep what you already have, and (b) get a pick of captives from any survivors in Alexandria. My guess is that the Heapster Bossette was about to start taking her picks when the Kingdom's regiment arrived.
Automatic weapons are notoriously inaccurate as I understand it. Tack on cinematic tropes and ... well, yep. It was fun seeing the carnage though. I was expecting more (as per my earlier post), but hey, it sets up an exciting war with Negan's Army.
GM Niles |
Yeah I rewatched it with my wife last night. It was people. WTF now we tossing in slavery, more reasons to hate the Heapsters.
Second question for someone who watched a little more closely than myself
What does Negan say right after Shiva leaps onto one of the Saviors and the Kingdom arrives? Negan says a bunch of stuff as he's (badly) firing a fully automatic pistol with one hand. He said something about a Tiger, but that's all I heard.

He's trying to one-hand a MAC-10. I didn't catch anything intelligible until he says to Simon something to the effect of: "See Simon? This is some sh*t here. Farkin' tiger!"

Caught up this weekend because the ol lady wants to finish it out. (Its like Sons of Anarchy all over again ugh)
Actually, the firearms are portrayed backwards on this show. Folks with automatic rifles would cut a person in half from 10ft, yet often miss. Then, they hit with tactical precision from 15+ yards with a pistol.....
I'm guessing shotguns being difficult to use as props explains the lack of them on the show. However, its probably one of the easiest firearms to use and commonly found in homes. I'd imagine they would be popular in the apocalypse.

*chuckling* Yeah, most handguns aren't particularly accurate for most shooters past, what, 10 yards or so?
I enjoy TWD for the popcorn and carnage. Realism is for day-to-day real life. Realism needs only be present enough to maintain my suspension of disbelief.
Shotguns I do believe you are completely correct regarding ease of use and ubiquity of availability. I don't know how easy the rounds are to fashion by hand - hand-loading not being something I know very much about - nor how much they're stockpiled compared to other small arms ammunition. One imagines that they'd have been a popular grab-n-go item when everything went belly-up since many Wally Worlds and other retailers that sell hunting items have a variety of shotguns. How many of them would still be littered throughou the stores they're found in as the living turned them on each other and the zombie hordes would be interesting to explore. I doubt there's much of a story need to stage such a scene.
If memory serves aren't the .22LR, 9mm Parabellum and its cousin the venerable .38 pistol rounds are the most ubiquitous small arms ammunition in the US?
