Huzzah for spoilers!! No more training do you require. Already you know that which you need.

Spoiler:
I agree that Glenn should have at least had a bite or three taken out of him. There were just too many walkers for anything less.

However, after re-watching the scene, I can totally see how he might have survived. They set it up nicely: Nicholas' body shielded him from the immediate threat, and helped block at least one side of the dumpster. Then Glenn uses his knife on the walkers trying to get at him from the three remaining sides, thus blocking more from getting to him. Although, really, other walkers should have been able to tear past those remains to get at him.

Ultimately, I think they did the exact thing (and really, the only thing) that everyone who thought he was alive had speculated on.

So....hopefully....Lucille.

Yeah, I'm thinking they're going for Carl loses and eye. I just hope that Son of Porch Dick either gets shot by Carl in turn, then eaten alive, or just gets straight up eaten alive. I'm guessing they'll then probably end up leaving the question of Carl's survival up in the air until the show picks back up.

I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of people getting eaten next episode. I find myself hoping the dude helping Rick with the wall is not one of them. I kind of like him. And Deanna - she's become way too feisty to get kibbled.

My own thoughts about next week:

I'm with you re:Glenn. However, I just a thought that it might be Morgan on the receiving end of Lucille... I think they have been setting him up for a brutal and series changing event. He is the one preaching "every life is sacred" and if he dies spectacularly standing up for his beliefs, it might be the impetus needed to keep Rick Grimes from losing the rest of his humanity and becoming the next Governor. re:SoPD Yeah he is gonna get eaten... I think fewer of the Alexandrians will die than you think. This is gonna be a "See what happens when you learn how to fight from us" type event imho. Maybe Rosita gets bit...and then Abraham comes back and has to put her down and realize he has been kind of a jerk.

Not exactly a zipline, but I see your point.

Color me unimpressed.....

Spoiler:
There was so much stupid going on, I hardly know where to begin.

Ron, you dumb f!**. Just get eaten already. You and your dumb f&#~, pansy-ass weakling of a brother.

Morgan, you shit for brains, weak-ass little b*@~*. You probably got that nice lesbian doctor-ish lady killed. Tara should put a bullet through your f$#!ing head.

Then again, one episode ago, Tara was nailing walkers one after another with head shots while trying to rescue Zippy the Food Hording Nutsack. Now, she can't even pop some snot-nosed little ex-goth nihilist badguy wannabe from 5 or so feet away with a clear line of sight. How f~!+ing dumbass shit stupid is that?

Low on action. Very boring overall. And the way they left it....I hope someone jams a knife in the back of that little shitbags head, just as payback for probably getting one or more of them killed.

"Mom! Mom! I'm a f#!#ing idiot."

Meh, they can't all be winners. I liked the scenes with Michonne and Deanna.

If you read the comics you have a really good idea what is going to happen next. Also, Negan!

Also also: "Your dad was an a!!@~&+."

no one gives up a gun to a guy holding a knife...smh

Disagree. All the house scenes were great. W man stuff so-so, but I think the conflict between Morgan and Carol is interesting if a bit over the top.

Anyway, yes, it's a BIG set up and they stopped in the perfect spot for next season to start with a bang...

Spoiler:
hand axe? check. hand holding? check. little sammy freaking out? check. momma's got a gun available for ronnie? check. oh yeah.

plus... all your enemy base belong to Negan.

They have motercycles. You have a truck. Sounds like a perfect time to play chicken.

spoiler:
Not sure you want to be shot at in a fuel truck. No bullet proof glass is only part of the problem.

Scarab Sages

Holy crap! That was F+%+ING AWESOME!!!

Spoiler:
Bye Jessie! I'll miss you! Sorry your son got you eaten.

Sam....yeah, that wasn't a surprise at all. Good riddance you weak ass little b$&&#.

Ron, nice try son of porch dick. You were an a~+*++%, just like your dad.

Rick and company - KICK ASS!!!! When I saw Rick grabbing the axe, I knew all hell was about to break loose. And the residents of Alexandria finally stepped up. Same with Father Gabriel and THE MULLET. They stepped up and showed they have what it takes.

Wolf boy may have been an a!&%*~&, but I think he redeemed himself in the end. After he was shot by Carol, you can see where he tackled those walkers to save the chunky chick.

Negan's boys got blowed up real good.

Loved that scene with Rick and Carl at the end.

Morgan, I hope you learned your f~%!ing lesson. Same with you Carol.

Lake of Fire!!!!

That's it for now. Can't wait for next week.

Interesting. I had the exact opposite reaction. I thought it totally lamed out.

Spoiler:
lake of fire? huh? that's as f-ing awful as the deus ex tornado episode. rocket launcher? really? Abraham should have taken the bullet. glenn dying to save maggie would have been a cool twist. and WTF was the drama with wolf boy and denise? who cares?

I've thought that the TV show has been better than the comic so far, but it may have just jumped the shark.

@Voodoo That's kinda how it plays out in the comics. Negan's first guys all get wasted. It's important for the next big development from Negan.

I'm with Aberzombie, I enjoyed the episode. I didn't get the whole lake of fire thing. I think it was just Nicotero enjoying his special effects a little bit too much (He's the director they get to do all those episodes that are effects heavy)

Son of Porch dick....lived up to his family name.

My two cents...

Spoiler:
The lake of fire tied together the storyline of Daryl with other people in the forest who had recently escaped Negan. Daryl had learned from them that the fuel truck "Patty" had been used to set the huge forest fire that drew an entire herd away from a town and basically lured the walkers to their deaths.

Seeing the herd assaulting Alexandria, it made perfect sense to Daryl that he could lure the walkers into the flaming lake. After all, he couldn't take the time to lure them all out of town with a trail of fire from the truck. And, the water in the lake would slow their movement enough to ensure each walker caught fire to still burn it up. The only thing I felt was a little over the top was wasting a grenade from the grenade launcher to light it. But, otherwise, it made perfect sense to me. Great episode!

If I recall correctly, Nicotero was originally (and to a large extent still is) an effects guy.

He is, he's also a director now(I'm not sure what season he started directing episodes) in addition to being in charge of the special effects for the show.

Also, did anyone catch a sneak peek of "Zombies on a Boat" Aka Fear the Walking Dead?

Fair warning, I'm rather spicy ; )

Spoiler:
maybe I'm being too harsh, but the lake of fire was just ridiculous. Talking Dead said it was Gimple's idea, but it derailed the whole tension of the carrion choo-choo scene and HOW LONG were they walking for it to be NIGHT all of a sudden?! that was just to make the lake of fire work and it was lame.

What amazing new thing happened? Did they once again have a dramatic moment resultant from sheer stupidity?

How many times can someone be chased to his gun???
Zombies at the gate!! Shore up the defenses with those brittle pieces of rotted wood!
Oh no they got through. Run and get your gun!!!

Let's sleep in a prison OK I get top bunk! Why do we even have roommates?

Let's leave the cell doors wide open while we sleep, that is smarter than using an oversized carabinier to lock out zombies!

Bad guy has a tank, I have razor wire, if I could get him to roll through it his tank would stop and it would delay him a long time...

Best. Alias. Ever. :)

I approved of this episode.

Started off funny, Bro trip! , a sympathetic Spencer, and surprise twist at the end.

Great episode!

I'm with Voodoo, as we were watching and Jesus was revealed I said F*@+ yeah! she was kinda startled. (She's not a comic reader). So then of course I had to try and spoiler free explain who he was in the next commercial break. So my wife, who unknowingly is an excellent prognosticator, says to me "They are gonna lose that truck." She figured they were gonna wreck it.

She also called the Richonne thing like 2 seasons ago when they were hanging out together in the house( after the prison while Rick was recovering) and she was getting close with Coral.

Scarab Sages

An entertaining episode, although I felt it was a bit slow at times…

Spoiler:
The Rick and Daryl road trip was both fun and a bit annoying. I’m sorry, but why would you chase Jesus through the field after you had gotten him off the roof? Why take that chance? The earlier scene, however, when they first get on the road and Rick puts the CD in over Daryl’s objections, then starts singing….pure gold.

And, WTF? Is Jesus some kind of ninja-commando?

The scenes with Carl and Ennid were…meh. However, I did love it when Carl led Walker Deanna to Spencer, then his explanation of his actions to Michonne.

Those bits with Spencer and Michonne were good. Spencer putting down Walker Deanna was a very well done scene. The character seems to be taking a turn for the better.

No Morgan or Carol. I was surprised.

I loved that last scene between Rick and Michonne. Throughout the episode, you could see the family dynamic that had been developing. It’s good that they can both find a bit of happiness with each other.

One other thing, I really liked that little scene with Carl and Judith on the porch, and him showing her the stars.

I look forward to seeing the upcoming expansion into other communities.

@Aberzombie Yes, Jesus is a ninja commando...literally.

A major character actually does kinda become a pirate in the comic...

don't think TV will head that way though.

Anyone else get the feeling Abraham is not long for this show?

Scarab Sages

An interesting set-up of things to come…

Spoiler:
Jesus has very rapidly become one of my favorites. If, when the series ultimately ends, no one else is alive except for Jesus and Michonne, I will be content.

Abraham-Sasha-Rosita love triangle? I say…meh. Love conflict in the time of Walkerpocalypse is a good way for someone to get killed.

I love Rick’s looking around after dispatching Ethan….”What?”

Carl showing some responsibility by staying home and keeping Alexandria safe – I like it. I also loved his confrontation with Jesus, brief though it was, as well has his reaction to Rick and Michonne.

Gregory – what a douchebag. At least it was pretty clear to me that he was most definitely not completely in charge. Jesus has a lot of influence. And Maggie seemed pretty good at putting Gregory in his place.

Between sonograms, pancakes, and brake light glass necklaces, I’m not sure who their going to kill at the end of the season. Maybe Glenn? But maybe Abraham or Daryl.

@Pan and Aberzombie My vote is for Abraham to take the place of Glenn at the receiving end of Lucille.

Scarab Sages

That was pretty interesting, but......

Spoiler:
If you're going to battle against an unknown force, wouldn't you want to do a little more recon first? Or maybe lure the enemy into a battleground of your own choosing? C'mon, Abraham! Show some tactical thinking!

Also, attacking an enemy stronghold - Gee, it sure would be nice if they had a....rocket launcher. Just sayin.

Abraham's breakup - brutally honest, yet impressively efficient. Loved the dingleberry comment.

Rick can be scary, but I have a feeling Lucille will trump the Rick-scary.

Loved the little bit with Carol putting a cookie on Sam's grave. I'm surprised there was enough left of him to bury.

Jesus continues to impress me.

Jesus saves....Glenn.

Loved the episode,

Spoiler:
but what happened was straight up murder. Not self defense... murder. That is a huge step for our group. WE know that the Saviors deserved it, but Rick and company, in world, have less info. Geez. That was rough.

"Stare at the monster/become the monster" and all that, the writers have been hinting at that for a while.

I like where this is going it's gonna take something truly horrific to alter the group's trajectory. I think I have a good idea what it's gonna be...

I agree. I think they did a good job reminding us the week before that Rick very much sees an us and them mentality.

Still, this seemed a significant step into said abyss.

That lady on the walkie-talkie seems nice. I'm sure they'll all talk out their problems, make friends, and then go home for some of Carol's cookies.

Speaking of that lady - they mentioned the name of the actress on Talking Dead, so I looked her up on IMDB. Apparently, she played the child Alia Atreides in the 80's David Lynch version of Dune. And now I feel very old.

Wow. Yeah. I suppose I can stomach the passing of that period of time, since I was a teenager when that movie was released.

I'm a little skeptical of the part of their plan where

Spoiler:
they get the stand-in zombie head. How long did that take them?

"Okay, here's the plan. We're going to wander around and attract walkers. If you see any that look like the guy we supposedly killed, cut off their heads and bring 'em back to the meeting spot. We'll have Jesus pick out the one that looks most similar and use that. Try to only bring back the fresher ones if you can, because these guys might be stupid, but they probably have at least average eyesight and a sense of smell."

I mean, it worked but having the weakest part of your plan be the start of it just doesn't seem like a good strategy.

It was done at night, and one dead bearded guy looks a lot like any other.

It occurs to me that rick and company are acting just like a party of PCs in a world filled with real people. They do brutally horrific things that are physically easy but should shock the living hell out of people to do.

Scarab Sages

I was a little put off by last week's episode.....

Spoiler:
As I recall, one of the things that made Negan such a complete a$+#+#* was his overwhelming mysoginistic attitude. Women were kept at the main facility, and several of them were his "wives". They weren't running around with leading groups and showcasing their "Girl Power". Seems to me, it's taking away from the character of Negan himself, making him that much less of a memorable villain.

I kind of understand why they did it, though. From what I've seen, the show has a large female audience. It's smart to try and cater to them with strong female characters. Keep those ratings going!

That being said, I still think the episode was well done. Writing was solid. Acting was superb. It was nice to see Alicia Witt, however briefly. Her death scene was fantastic.

Maggie and Carol showed off their resourcefulness and bad-assery. And Carol, in my opinion, showed that she is not yet the monster she could become, just by virtue of the fact she can still feel guilt and pain over the things she has to do.

I look forward to the last few episodes.

Aberzombie wrote:

Spoiler:
Not exactly. What was memorable about Negan, at least one of the things besides Lucille, was that he had a twisted code of honor. He kills one of his henchmen for trying to rape Holly when she's captured- "WE.DON'T.RAPE." His 'wives' had to offer themselves freely. Granted, they were chattel after that, but he took care of them unless they did something behind his back. Even then, I recall the male involved in any infidelity got a hot iron to the face, but I don't remember the woman being punished. That said, the vast majority of his bandit groups looked to be men, but I did see at least one woman in a thug group so not unknown.
Scarab Sages

Well, that was both expected and unexpected…..

Spoiler:
I kind of figured they might kill someone off, and half expected them to follow the comics and end Abraham. So I was surprised when they killed Denise instead (even if I saw it coming in those last few seconds). This doesn’t bother me all that much – they needed to have a shocking death, but I like Abraham better. Not only is he a badass, but he delivers some of the best one-liners and turns of phrase in the entire series. Denise had her moments, and they gave her some good lines, but I was nowhere near as invested in that character.

As always, the special effects were phenomenal. The arrow through the eye was very well done.

Nice to see Dwight again, and with his burned face. Now he just needs to get the crossbow back….

“Dibs is dibs!” Eugene is becoming another favorite, if only because the actor invests such effort into making him a dorky a%*+**+. And kudos on his shout out to RPGs. I look forward to his bullet manufacturing, though I think they’d be smarter to find a way to transport whatever tools and machines they need back to Alexandria.

Dick biting in the zombiepocalypse. That’s a new one.

Carol has gotten really weird lately. I wonder where she’s going to go.

Can’t wait for the last two episodes. I look forward to seeing the real Negan. No more of this “I am Spartacus!” routine.

Abraham is honestly the best comic relief in any "serious" show I've ever watched. His line at the end of the episode to Eugene had both my wife and myself laughing so hard we missed the entire rest of the scene and had to rewind it.

re:Eugene I'm with you AZ, if you watch the Talking Dead afterward Josh McDermitt was so awesome it made me like his character that much more.

Scarab Sages

Ouch!

Spoiler:
Don’t worry, Daryl. I’m sure you’ll be fine….

Actually, with that little bit at the end there, I’m wondering if we may see two (or more) major deaths in the season finale. Daryl is, at the least, seriously injured. From the looks of it, and Dwight’s closing words, he took a bullet to the shoulder. Could be lethal. IF they keep in line with the comics, another long time character might also be not long for this world.

Carol may have moved into the realm of ridiculous shit with that machine gun up the sleeve crap. Although I did like when she pulled the spear out and stabbed that guy through the car. Nice move. Her M.O. now seems to be: meet new threats, pretend to be helpless until you can catch them off guard, profit! That’s only going to take her so far though. Eventually, she’ll run into someone who either isn’t moved by her helpless routine, or sees through it right away.

If you’re going to have scenes with “the feels” at least they did it to a good song – Johnny Cash for the win!

Looking forward to next week’s finale!

I'm thinking that same thing too AZ re:Carol's helpless shtick. However, they did show her sewing the gun into her coatsleeve, so at least it wasn't completely out of the blue.

Also Kingdom!

Also, Also Lucille!

Carol's not supposed to be playing at the 'wounded wing' thing, she's supposed to be really having a crisis about killing people. It's just a little hard to swallow such a huge shift in character, but then she's already had one huge shift from battered woman to Charles Bronson.
