Well, like I said baby Asskicker isn't even walking yet, so max age is around 18 months. 9 months in the oven and maybe a month or two either way puts the entire show at like....30 months?

Yeah I figured they were gonna do a longer "Prison" montage to account for extra time but they never did, and they haven't had any chances to do anything like that again.

I'd be interested to find out if they've actually at least roughly pegged how much time has passed.

I suspect that they have vague ideas in the writer's room, but it's all subject to revision for the convenience of future stories. Carl, of course, ages per the rules of comic book time.

I dunno Turin, baby Asskicker only looks about 18 months old at max. So that puts the show around 27 monthsish old?
The Boy (Chandler Rigg's character) is far too big to be only 12-ish.

I don't know about that. My nephew is 12 and stands at 5'10", 150 lbs and wears a men's size 10 shoe

but agree that the relative time passed has been around 2 years

Compared to the norm, your nephew seems to be on the rare side.

One can only hope.

Just to make sure we're talking about the same person.....

I'm talking about <redacted>. When he <redacted> <redacted> across the <redacted> and then <redacted> from the <redacted> into that <redacted>.

I thought you might be talking about <redacted>, when he <redacted> his <redacted> and then <redacted> those <redacted> and was <redacted> in the <redacted>.

Clearly, you can understand my confusion.

Or it could be <redacted> who went <redacted> instead of <redacted> like an idiot...

Scarab Sages

At least it isn't <redacted>, who's still <redacted> the <redacted>.

That [redacted] <censored> summina[deleted] should've [excised] instead of going [double redacted entendre].

For a show that runs 7 episode half-seasons, they are masters of wasting an entire hour on crap I couldn't care less about. Yet another dead weight episode.

Are we going to have a whole season where we don't see most of the cast? I don't mind getting to know some of these Alexandrians, but I wouldn't mind seeing some of the people I can identify.

Patience young masters, patience...they are clearly setting us up for some shenanigans. You are forgetting that this has been par for the course in this series over 5 seasons. Park the group, split the group, focus on individual/small group stories, bring them all together in hella crazy mid and end of season episodes.

Also <redacted> has obvs not been <redacted> because they would not have spent that much time with <redacted> and <redacted> in the <redacted> .

Scarab Sages

It's been an interesting season so far. With such an expanded universe, so to speak, I suppose it makes some sense to tell the stories they've been telling so far - essentially focusing on locations/groups of characters, instead of trying to jam everyone in for a few minutes each episode.

For those unhappy with it - sucks to be you. This kind of storytelling is probably going to have to become more the norm, as they expand to include other settlements and wider-ranging stories.

some of my spoilery throughts.....

Spoiler:
I totally saw the lesbian thing coming with Tara and the medical chick. Good for Tara. And good for medical chick - she needed some confidence boosting s%~$ to get her moving.

Loved the parts with Aaron and Maggie in the sewer. The walkers down there were very well done. And when she announced she was pregnant - I knew it was coming, and to me it just confirms that Glenn is more likely than not dead, since the producers have stated they're trying to get back more in line with the comics, and in those she found out she was pregnant after Glenn died.

Speaking of Aaron - he's become one of my favorite Alexandrians. I loved the way he did the whole man up thing and admitted his mistake with losing the bag and accidently leading the Wolves to Alexandria.

I don't think he's as much to blame as Morgan, however. Morgan's naïve idealism has already gotten other people killed, and it will again.

Go Jessie! You're starting to show you've got what it takes to survive.

Go Deanna! F!%*ing bottle stabbing that Walker. Next time, though, aim for the head. oh, yeah, your son's kind of an a&$###%.

Ron, dude, don't f++* with Carl. He's already shot one poor bastard he thought was a threat. I don't think he'd hesitate to put a bullet in your head if he knew you were a threat. Not to mention, you're a loser and you need to be eaten. And your little brother needs to man the f@!* up. Ain't no time for childish moping in the Walkerpocalypse.

This show has gotten to a point where I only watch it because there isn't anything better on television on Sunday at that time.

It's just not doing it for me really. I will probably continue to watch because I've already invested so much time, but most of the time I'm dissatisfied.

Sorry Claxon that you feel that way, and feel the need to post it here on the thread.

+1 as usual to Aberzombie's thoughts, I'm there too. Except for the <redacted> is dead part. I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm not forgetting a thing. The last two seasons were a horrendous stretch-fest that kept me wishing they would cut to video of paint drying because it would have been more plot movement.

That the real problem, they spend 6 of 7 episodes doing nothing and then don't have nearly enough screen time to properly resolve it in the finalle. I had hoped this season would buck that trend (as the first 3 episodes seemed to be doing) but the last 2 episodes have been right back to dragsville.

Well then I'm exceptionally sorry BigDTBone that you aren't maximizing your Television watching experience. I'm sure you'll find more enjoyable fare some time in the future. Might I suggest Blood and Oil on the ABC network, or perhaps Family Guy on the Fox network. If not those then perhaps The Leftovers on the HBO network. I also have it on good authority that the X-Files is returning to Fox and should be in its old 8pm Sunday time slot.

The zombies in <redacted> were some of the most awesome special effects in a show with great special effects!

I also agree that the roamers in <redacted> were well done. Nicotero has an excellent team.

I feel like we haven't seen Aaron's husband/boyfriend/partner in a while. I'd like to see him again. Their reunion last season warmed my mean little heart.

Liberty's Edge

So...the remaining horde is 20 walkers deep around the perimeter of the Safe Zone.

Let's assume the radius of the safe zone is 800 meters (or a mile from one end of town to the other), and the walkers are a dynamic crowd of 4 walkers per square meter...how many walkers are surrounding the Walls of Alexandria?

Oh jeez...math.

I'm gonna say there are exactly as many walkers as it takes to tell whatever story they are trying to tell.

Re:Aaron's boyfriend. My wife brought that up, she assumed he died but we disagreed about that. I can't even remember the guy's name, and he had his own scene with Darryl and everything.

If I recall correctly, they did show him last night, standing in a group of other Alexandrians. Not much, but at least something.

It does seem odd that they've kind of forgotten about the character. Mayhap with Aaron's crisis of conscience regarding the wolves attack, we'll get to see more of the two of them.

They showed him very briefly in the triage area after the the majority of the Wolf attack had ended - if not just to let the audience know that he was still alive.

For now.

Ah ha! They did show him! So I wasn't seeing things this time.

Good catch everyone! Thanks. :)

It's probably overgenerous to assume Rick counted instead of just making up a number. His general method of persuasion involves more spraying everyone with testosterone until they beg him to stop.

Next time on Season Ten of Samnell's The Walking Dead:

Rick: I gotta whip it out again? I feel like I'm gonna have to whip it out again.
Carl: Dad, c'mon. No one wants to see that again. If you ever had a gay following, we lost it when you disagreed about the color of frosting to put on Judith's birthday cake. And we also lost the cake.
Rick: Carl, I killed a dozen walkers that way.
Carol: *smiling, friendly voice* Rick, one more time and I'll bake you cookies.

Everyone takes a step back.

But ok, we've got two circles. Let's assume that the land is perfectly flat and uniform for purposes of approximation. We need to get the area of the larger circle and then subtract out the area of the smaller inside. Area of a circle is pi*r^2. We know that the inner circle is a straight 800 meter radius

That's 2,010,619.298 square meters.

The bigger circle includes the 20 deep walkers, assuming Rick actually counted. If they're four to a square meter, then that's an extra five meters all around the walls. We go from an 800 radius to a 805 radius.

That's 2,035,830.579 square meters.

We need the big circle to subtract out the little one. So 25211.28134 square meters in the ring. it's four walkers to each, so 100,845.1254 walkers. Let's call it an even 100,846. I doubt the CGI walkers in the quarry came to half that, but there you have it.

That's a bit under half the size of the entire United States Marine Corps or rather larger than the British Army. It's quite close to the active duty membership of Jordan's military.

This force would also be somewhat larger than a typical Civil War army, on paper (actual strength could vary dramatically even independent of combat), and eighteen thousandish shy of the Army of the Potomac when Grant commanded against Lee in 1864. It was a bit smaller when McClellan failed to take Richmond in '62, but still larger than the zombie herd.

10k-20k zombies were in the quarry is my guess, supposedly only half of which surround mini-Alexandria. More than enough for a small perimeter.

I'm not sure that'd be how it'd exactly be calculated, since the 4 per m^2 would be an even distribution around the whole square?

So it might be only a depth of 2 per linear metre? If we assume a walker takes up 1/4 of a sqm. So would that depth be 10....maybe....

Hence it may be ((π x 810²) - (π x 800²)) x 4 = 202,319 Walkers. (So the population of Des Moines)

This is all with the assumption of an even corner distribution of walkers, we really need the linear # of walkers per metre depth to actually get it correct... anything else is just a guess :P

/sigh See what you did Andrew Turner. You turned this thread into Math 290. =)

@Samnell lol

Scarab Sages

But....but....I like math.

Although, in this case there's that big unknown of an actual perimeter measurement of Alexandria to make anything more than a guestimate. Have they ever put out a map?

DSXMachina wrote:

We would need some kind of empirical measure to get more precise, which is a major sin against the math gods.

...or so my math education led me to believe. I got the traditional "this is an esoteric ritual" presentation.

Related: I generally did poorly in those classes. Did better with math used in science class. Also in geometry, though the teacher killed any interest I had in trigonometry along the way and the whole business of doing proofs once again pounded hard on the esoteric ritual button.

If I've got to do a ritual, I want to do it flapping in the breeze with chanting, knives, and a bloodstone circle like a normal person. And don't tell me about the tiered Heavens and hierarchy of angels. I don't know anything about them. Angels only tell lies and they do not exist.

I was hoping for Dillahunt. Should be fine I guess.

I love the choice. I liked him as the Comedian in the Watchmen.

Scarab Sages

Indeed, her casting will be key. A matter of life and death, mayhap.

Scarab Sages

I enjoyed last night's episode.

Spoiler:
Poor Daryl. There you go being all nice and s%%$, and those little pricks steal your motorcycle and crossbow. Hopefully, karma will come back to bite them on the ass. Literally.

You go, Abraham! Cue the cheesy 70s music!

Also - RPG! And not the table-top version.

I wonder if that group was The Saviors.

Some people seem to be speculating as to whether that could have been Glen warning them on the radio at the end. I'm not so sure. It sounded like whoever was asking for help, so maybe it could be him. Or maybe it's one of the wolves.

Scarab Sages

As a follow-up....

Spoiler:
Talking with my younger brother a few minutes ago, he pointed out the other person on the end of the radio at the end could have been the dude who took Daryl's bike. I'm not sure, as I don't recall whether they also took his radio.

The Radio:
My wife thinks its Glen. I think its the guy on Darryl's bike. I also think those "ambushers" were the Saviors. They kept the guy's face off screen because I think it'll be half burned off and that woulda been a huge tell from the comics.

Sovereign Court

spoiler:
Im betting its the guy on the bike too. Daryl will go rescue his trusty crossbow and bike......and probably the dude and chick too.

I like where they are going with Sasha and Abe. A man knows these things.

4 people marked this as a favorite.

I don't understand the people saying the show is going nowhere this season and "nothing is happening".

This season has had the most plot and purpose of any season since season 1. Just because people aren't dropping like flies in large part due to their own crippling stupidity doesn't mean "nothing is happening".

I was a bit confused with the "a man knows" speech. What about Rosita? I mean in "in show time," it's been, maybe, a few weeks since Eugene and Tara were watching them get it on...

I think its been more like a few months....

However, I think Abraham and Rosita were a "marriage of convenience" ie they were both there and so things happened. I don't think they are "in love" and least not from Abraham's point of view.

In the comics:
Something similar happens.

Loose ends make my ass itch...

I love Abraham.

Scarab Sages

FUUUUUCCCCCKKK!!!!!!

Spoiler:
G&@#&*N IT, WRITER'S!!! Why'd you have to leave Glenn alive? I mean, yeah sure, he's got a future date with Lucille. But still, that survival was just a tad ludicrous.

Oh well...

Enid - yeah, she's f*#~ing annoying and deserves to be eaten.

Son of Porch Dick - you'd best watch out, punk. If you don't kill Carl with the first shot, he will f#~& you up. And if you do kill Carl, you're a dead punk anyway.

Morgan - you're gonna get people killed when that douche breaks free.

Next episode looks to be rather....hectic.

Crock of Poo meets otherwise awwww sheet:

Glenn should've been effin' KIBBLE! Too many zombies in there to not have eaten him by accident. Bah. Glenn was walking a bit oddly...

Mid-season finale is shaping up to be as delectably high-octane as the beginning of the season.

SoPD probably wasn't unceremoniously dispatched by the falling of building on face, sadly. Perhaps we will get to see him and Coral blow each other away?

I was right!:
Glenn lived! I think this is only so that his eventual death (lookin at you Negan) will have so much more impact.

SoPD:
Will probably shoot Carl in the eye....

Aberzombie's got me using spoilers.... ah well. I was pumped by this episode and next week looks equally awesome.
