Announcing the new VC of Minnesota!

Pathfinder Society

Shadow Lodge 5/5

As you may all be able to tell from my newly reclaimed MisterSlanky title, my transition from the role of VC to one of the faceless masses is now complete.

But fear not, Minnesota is not without its venture leadership. Mike Brock has given me the pleasure of announcing our new VC of Minnesota - Ryan Blomquist! So in case you were worried, Minnesota will continue to be ruled over with an iron fist....ahem, looked after, by another Ryan B.

Ryan has been playing PFS since season zero and has a strong background in participating and working with organized play systems, so he should fit right in. I've had the pleasure of both playing under and running for Ryan and he's a superb addition to the regional leadership. Mike couldn't have made a better selection.

Please take a moment to congratulate Ryan on his promotion to the role!

Congrats, Ryan the Second! As the nearest V-C to us, we expect our cross-border rivalry to continue unabated!

I tried to keep it on the DL until it was officially announced. What gave it away?

Indeed. I look forward to it as well. I'll have you (and apparently Iowa, the traitors!) know my Venture-Lieutenant is already shipping in reinforcements from Wisconsin. Speaking of which, Andy, are we still shipping in reinforcements from Wisconsin? I should probably be able to back that claim up before I make it, shouldn't I...

No, seriously though, I have some big shoes to fill. Ryan did an excellent job as Venture-Captain, and I look forward to the opportunity to live up to his accomplishments and to working with Andy, our local event organizers, and our awesome GMs to make the region even more fun and exciting for our players. Plus, in nine or so months when Ryan is ready to resume his post and decapitates me on the mezzanine of Fantasy Flight Games while making obscure references to Highlander, the transition should barely be felt by the players.

Skol Ryan!
BTW, here is an interesting link which explains what skol means that Pathfinders will enjoy. What does skol mean?

Well done Ryan!

See you on Saturday.

Congrats!

I'm hoping to get up there sometime as it's one of the areas within driving distance I haven't been yet.

Liberty's Edge 1/5

Congrats! I am hoping for some mid-week games to spring up. I travel there a bunch and wouldn't mind playing or running a few mid-week games.

Nice site! How dd you build it? How is it hosted?

It is a Meetup page, they are good for Fan Clubs, Game Orgs, Gaming groups other hobby groups. Anyone can make one.

I am more partial to Obsidian Portal it is more RPG orientated.

Quite a few PFS groups use Meetup though.

Since technically, until the dues come up in December, I'm the "owner" of the website, I'll field this one.

The site in question is Meetup. I chose to go Meetup over some of the other more popular options for a number of reasons. I did actually use Warhorn for awhile, but I find that its functionality is actually better suited for managing one-off events, not ongoing game days. After shopping around, I realized how much I used Meetup for other local events and decided to try it out. Personally I couldn't be happier.

Some of the befits?

First off there's the free advertising. We regularly get 2-3 new members joining up and asking to go to games because the cross-reference advertising that Meetup does for all of its groups. In essence, once you join up with a Minneapolis Roleplayer meetup, you might get an on-screen notice that you may also want to join the Minneapolis/St. Paul Pathfinder Society.

There's the broad functionality of the communication. We get messageboards (with all of the standard moderation functionality), mailing lists, and the ability to shoot off e-mail blasts to select members of the group. Game day reminders are automated so we don't have to manually remember to do them as well. The members also have the ability to talk about game days both before and after (and they do).

Finally there are a lot of tools to watch to see trends. We can count players per day, we can see number of active/inactive players, and I can even pull excel tables for analysis of all the analytics. As a data driven person myself, this was always very valuable.

It's easy to set-up and really takes no effort to maintain, so it wound up being a perfect application for us.

Dave, we currently don't have anything set up for the 25th, but shoot me an email (twincitiesvc@gmail.com). Normally, we run the first and third Thursdays of the month. I'm trying to expand that, but the organizer of that event can only do bi-weekly due to the venue and limitations on the real life time of the organizer. That said, I might be able to put something together for an out of town player... ;)

As for the Meetup, Ryan said it better than I could. I owe him for setting that up; had it been me, I'd have probably gone with what I know and we'd still be stuck on Warhorn. I will look at Obsidian Portal as well, but with the group established on Meetup I don't really think we're moving in the foreseeable future.

Dark Archive 4/5

How does OP compare to Meetup?

Liberty's Edge 4/5 5/55/5 ** Venture-Lieutenant, California—Sacramento

I send you guys a Private message later about Obsidian Portal.

Though I agree with Ryan, if he has everyone on meetup already it would be a pain to change pages.

Silver Crusade

Congrats! I will have to make it up to one of the events in the Cities sometime. I did join on Meet Up!
