Is someone trying to make a point through a clumsy and inappropriate analogy?
I don't even know what thread this is spinning off but the intent is depressing. This kind of thing never makes a point effectively.
Options I am currently considering that this clumsy swipe might relate to:
alcohol
guns
smoking
fatty food
violent sports
aggressive dogs as pets
Did I get the right one in there somewhere?
Driving a car is considered a privilege, and not a right, precisely because they are dangerous weapons in the hands of the inexperienced and unqualified. A potential driver must earn this privilege through study and demonstration of ability. So... still flummoxed as to the point of this exercise.

I'm all for more bikes.
We should ban all cars. They kill too many people and pollute too much. They are an emblem of the idea that those who have money should show it. We can let the military have cars, since we trust it.
Yes, I do want to take your cars away.

This question has been asked by big insurance companies before. It seems
the risk to health would be lower if we only made cars that go 20mph, etc.
When we run out of oil in 130 years, cars will naturally go away.

I say we outlaw Oregon instead. Too much hot air emissions. It's ruining the biosphere.
That and webcomics. They rot the youth.
Banning cars would ruin the lives and economy of many rural areas, where people often have to drive fairly long distances to work or just to their neighboring towns to get the things they need, such as food, medical care, etc.

What about horses? I know I sounds silly to some of, but they are a viable optional form of transportation.

They're not really a viable form of transportation without restructuring the modern world. (Which isn't really a bad idea.)
I commute ~20 miles a day, each way. Which is short compared to some of my friends. How long would that take on horseback?
And what would be the advantage over a bike?
Well I know a horse is faster than a bike. They also last longer an provide genuine companionship. I'm thinking 20 miles on a horse might be be an hour or so, but I am no expert.

I agree, we should also ban all cancer, and allow all wheat products. Crunchy peanut butter: It's also out.
Anyway, the States seriously needs to cut back on its car habit. Even getting down to one trip to town per day per household would be a huge deal.
It's a little known fact, but the Founders actually intended for every citizen to own a complete nuclear arsenal, in case they need to exercise their God-given right to destroy the planet at will. The only reason that isn't spelled out in the 2nd amendment is that they hadn't invented nuclear weapons by the time the Bill of Rights was ratified.

It's not the cars that's the problem, I'd say they're actually a tool of democratisation (making travel easier makes for more open minds, in most cases at least) - it's the exhaust fumes that's the problem.
