Eidolon hit points per level

Just some context, I have a friend who says they get 6, I disagree. The rules state

"How do I determine hit points for my animal companion?
Animal companions receive average hit points per hit die. For d8, the average is 4.5. Multiply 4.5 times the number of hit dice your animal companion has and round down. Recalculate hit points for your companion each time it gains additional hit dice. After its hit points are calculated, add in appropriate bonuses from its Constitution modifier, feats, and so on."

I can infer from this that since an Eidolon is like an animal companion it would get 5.5 per level, however, there is nothing that says that we are to treat it like one. The only clause that says anything about them is in regards to how many animal companions/familiars/Eidolons you can have in combat.

How many are they suppose to get?

I have always been under the impression that the eidolon follows the animal companion rule on HP, so 5.5 per HD. However, I don't know which HD are supposed to be considered a 5 and which are a 6. :/

Eidolon's have a chart with HP's on it. Just use that.

It's the same deal as animal companion, except eidolons have a d10.

It's (5.5 + Con Modifier) * HD, rounded down. Of course, you apply other feats, like toughness, normally.

It is not a PC, hence it does not get the PC hits points, just like an animal companion doesn't. It works like any monster does.

See the above. An Eidolon gets the average of a a d10 roll (5.5) rounded down to 5. So 5+CON Mod at every level, including 1st.

Toughness is an excellent investment for your Eidolon if you intend to have them tank for you.

I know the official society people are busy but it would be nice to get a formal ruling on these things!

5 + Con at 1st level
6 + Con more at 2nd level
5 + Con more at 3rd level
6 + Con more at 4th level

...and so on. Toughness is good but not critical, so long as you're willing to delve into your summoner's hit points to keep your eidolon up and fighting.

While there may be no official response, it seems unanimous that eidolons would use the same rules as animal companions for PFS.

Eidolons are summmons. they get averaged dice just like any other summon. This includes the first level hit die.
