I am 15' away from an orc, and wielding a whip. My ally is adjacent to the orc. Using my whip, I attempt to disarm the orc and succeed. I don't have Improved Disarm, but since I am out of the orc's reach, he can't make an attack of opportunity against me.

My ally goes next, and he wants to either pick up the orc's weapon or knock it away. The weapon is still in the orc's square. How does this work?

It's a move action to pick up an object, and doing so provokes an AoO.

He uses the Manipulate an Item action, which is a move action that provokes attacks of opportunity.

-edit- assuming your ally has 5' reach. If your ally is tiny he would have to enter the orc's square.

Okay, but the orc no longer has a weapon now. Assuming he doesn't have Improved Unarmed Strike, can he make that attack of opportunity on my ally when he goes for the dropped weapon?

He can if he has another weapon out (like maybe a cestus or boot blade, or a natural attack like a bite).

In order to make an attack of opportunity, you must threaten.

If the orc doesn't have a weapon or natural attacks or unarmed strike or a held touch spell, then he doesn't threaten, and he can't make the attack of opportunity.

(Always buy a spiked gauntlet!)

I THINK he needs to have improved unarmed strike... or some kind of 'natural attack'

Seems like MOST of the guys I fight have some kind of bite attack they can still make unarmed >.<

Do full orcs get tusk goring? or is that a feat?

Oddly, neither orcs in the bestiary nor orcs in the ARG have natural attacks.

That's kind of funny, considering that Half-orcs have an alternate racial trait that gives them a bite attack. If orcs don't get something similar, even as an alternate, then where did the half orcs get it from? Their human ancestors?

Grand Lodge

Orcs have the Tusked Race trait available.

Liberty's Edge

This is a legitimate tactic that my group uses a lot. Sometimes they use ready actions to pick up the weapon after it has been disarmed too. Its kind of humiliating for the bad guy to be killed by his own weapon (painful too I should think).
