Where did Golarion start?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I'm attempting to write an RPG - and a setting that it'll take place in - and I'm sort of curious as to where Galorion started.

Was it a single town? A small area? A few characters?

Silver Crusade

That sounds like a good question to ask James Jacobs...

I concur.

Varisia for Rise of the Runelords

There were actually a few blogs or introductions to the adventure pathes about this I think.

Started, funny enough, with both Sandpoint and Darkmoon Vale, both separated by a pretty decent distance. The old Blog posts will tell you more detailed info than that.

I picked June for that, BTW, since it's the earliest I can recall. It might go back into May, but I don't think so. It gets more detailed as we approach August (RotR's initial release), and fleshes out more fully over that next year.

From what I remember from this thread (I've been stalking it for a year or so now 0_0), his advice for building campaign worlds is in the GameMastery Guide.

Golarion started with Varisia, as we needed a spot to set our new Pathfinder adventure path product. A bunch of us worked together to build it, after which we introduced Darkmoon Vale, and then expanded into the Pathfinder Chronicles Gazetteer. Everything else unfurled outward from there. But in the beginning, Varisia was really all we knew of our new setting.

And the GMG is a great place for advice--several of us, including Jacobs, Erik, Wes, and me--all contributed our thoughts on setting-building.
