Void school balanced?

In addition to the problem with Void magic not really granting spells that aren't already on the wizard spell list, the Reveal Weakness power seems pretty strong, especially with no save. Sure, you'd need a quickened spell to take advantage of it yourself, but it makes saves for enemies pretty trivial for other spellcasters in the party.

I can't find any other wizard school 1st level power that affects another creature that doesn't have either a save or a touch attack, and the same applies for bloodlines or domains. Was a saving throw supposed to be part of this power?

Alternatively, I could at least see a restriction that a creature can only be subject to reveal weakness once per 24 hours - being able to use this for 8+ rounds in a row seems excessive.

I don't know, I really like the ability, just because it's something that doesn't become completely trivial after level 5. Then again, it would probably still be loads better than similar level 1 school powers even if it had a save or 24 hour restriction.

well maybe it seems powerful but it makes the wizard spend his standard action, that means that unless he has quickened spells, he sacrifices his action to help a fellow party member to hit the enemy (as far as I see, the descrition doesn`t say that the penalty is only against you)

To an extent, like most elemental specialties it's balanced by the fact that there are a lot less void spells then most specilist wizards. The only level 1 void spell you get that's usually going to be useful is shield. You get invisibility with second level spells, which is good, but third level and fourth level are both meh.

Anyway, reveal weakness is cool and useful, but it's hardly overpowered; it's a very situational ability that is only useful when you can co-ordinate with another member of your party. And even then, it's just giving the enemy a penalty to his saving throw, and one that's pretty minor at low levels; he can still make it, and then you and the witch/cleric/whatever have both wasted a standard round, which is painful. Or, to look at it another way, at low levels it's not that much better then intimidate; yeah, it happens automatically, but you can't give someone a -2 on saving throw until you're level 4.

I don't think it's overpowered compared to other specialist wizards, all in all.

Sorry to jump in here with a question, but what book is Void Magic in?

Thanks!

Ismodai has a point. Losing actions is quite bad for casters.
