Prominent Gods in dwarven culture

Shadow Lodge

Been reading some of the stuff floating around on the boards recently and have noticed that outside of racial gods, torag, abadar, and iori there aren't many gods that you see associated with heavy dwarven worship so I was wondering what other golarion gods do you guys think you would find your dwarven cultures respecting and venerating?

Liberty's Edge

There's a whole dwarven pantheon that consists of Torags family, but most dwarves choose to worship Torag primarily, and the other dwarven gods only when something specifically under their domain arises (weddings, vengeance, birthdays, etc.).

There's actually a rule hidden in the fluff of the pantheon's text that states a cleric of Torag can spend an extra hour attuning himself to one of the other dwarven gods, and gain access to their domain spells for a day. It would make sense why most dwarven clerics don't bother to worship the other gods in their pantheon exclusively.

Also, Gorum is probably a good choice for an exiled dwarf. All of the battle, none of the responsibility! I also had a player once play a dwarven cleric of Hanspur, kind of a ragged old river-rat, which seemed to fit.

Yeah my problem is though that one of the great things about golarion was that we started to move away from this idea of race specific deities and into this idea of a more integrated religious world where things like gods of the elves were less the norm and we had more gods that had a lot of elven worshippers but was not their defacto god. I always really liked that as a building concept as it made the world feel more connected and made it easier to justify a lot of race class combos since those races now had exposure and access to the faith. Unfortunately this fact hasn't really held true for the dwarves who are known for basically worshiping just a set of racial gods which just feels like a bigger disconnect in a setting where all the rest of the world seems to have some place or explanation for where all these other gods fit within each races culture.

Now that said I know some of the gods I could see having substantial dwarven followings are...

Cayden Cailean: God of beer and spirits so I could see his church picking up some of the less lawful dwarves who favor strong spirits and doing what's right.

Dispater: He's a archdevil known as the Iron Lord who focuses on nobility and law which feels like and ethos many dwarves could get behind

Gorum: For many of the reasons you mentioned above.

Moved thread to Campaign Setting forum.

Cayden Cailean is a good one I hadn't thought of. I doubt he'd be worshiped by the dwarven community at large, given his human origins and relative youth, but I could see an exiled or questing dwarf heading into a holy pub of Cayden for a little taste of home.

I didn't think of Dispater either, and I actually play a cleric of the archedevil! He's a great choice - I think there's a lot of iron and metal in his imagery as well.

Cayden Cailean actually, apparently, has an official place in Dwarven myth these days as Torag's comedic sidekick. So very much the kind of guy a Chaotic aligned Dwarf might be previously exposed to and inclined to follow.

I've actually got a CG Dwarven Barbarian devotted to Cayden Cailean in my current Pathfinder game, as a matter of fact.
