With the quarantine going on, and me trying to find ways to entertain myself and not being bored to tears, I've been a busy little bee with these builds.

Today, I made the aboleth in charge of transforming all of the slaves they've managed to gather. While the Fleshwarp item creation feat isn't OGL, I figured you can get around that by making an aboleth that has all the ranks necessary to do it, and experiments in transforming the body anyhow.

Unknown Encounter 6 - The Fleshwarping Creator

I've only mentioned this in passing before, but anyone who wants to, I've got a ko-fi on my profile page. There's no pressure in doing so. I know with what's going on all of our belts are going to be a little tighter for the next while.

NEW ART everyone. I was shocked when I came across this. Bless Pinterest for existing. When I saw it, I had to post it. It's so good, just like all of Michael's art. I was so happy to able to see it.

You can check it on my build. I also have it on my Pinterest account under the SpiralMagus category. To be honest, I found a couple of new pics. This one and a sea elf? on what I'm guessing is a hippocampus. There might be more, but unfortunately not everyone is kind enough to tag his name and give him proper credit, so it's quite possible that I'm missing some that are on there, or even have duplicates because they came from different sources.

Unknown Encounter 7 - The Messenger

Hope everyone's being safe, staying home, and maintaining good hygiene.

I freely admit that I'm probably out of my dang mind, but I'm not gonna lie, everyone. Saw that after the COVID-19 pandemic started, Gary’s account went quiet on Kickstarter. I don't know why, but part of me hoped that with all the self-isolation/quarantine we’re having to do, that maybe Gary was working on the AP, and maybe give us a completed Book 3 and a scan of all his notes for everything else. I mean, we all have to kill time right now. So when I got an email update with Gary’s name on it, I was excited. Turns out it was about his account supporting another project. Hmm. It's quite possible he's doing some Roll20 games with his groups, but if this keeps up much longer, we're all going to run out of things to do to keep from going stir crazy. Even theory builds aren't helping me no more.

Staring to go coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs right now.

I don't think you should get your hopes up at this point, kind sir. Gary burns those bridges and there's almost no coming back from that.

Do you have an online group, or the health to do that? That's what's keeping me sane.

Wishing the best if luck to a stranger on the internet from a stranger on the internet.

Yeah, you're right. It's a pipe dream that likely won't come true. Was just hoping he'd get that bored.

That's fine though. Still got some builds of my own coming. Gotta keep busy somehow.

I have the health to be on an online group, I just don't have the setup. My computer is super old, and most of the RAM is gone. A friend pieced it back together for me using what spare parts he could find at his place, but it's on borrowed time. Almost joined a discord specific one, but they filled up faster than expected, and most of them were already friends IRL, so outsiders had a smaller chance of getting in.

Funny enough, it's always the strangers who help out the strangers. Appreciated.

Well, if your computer can manage a voice program (like discord) and roll20, that's all you really need. I'll admit roll20 is far more resource intensive than it ought to be.

If your PC can't manage that (understandable), there's always PbP (I believe that's already been mentioned on this thread).

Not sure about Roll20. I know I've tried it before, but it didn't go so well. I handle Skype and Facebook's voice messenger well enough. I think. At least my old computer did. This one's a mix of the old computer and spare parts, so I haven't really experimented much with it. Just for safety reasons. When a computer is fixed ala MacGuyver style, you baby it pretty heavily.

PbP has been brought up before. I've done it before, and it didn't go so well, but that was purely because everyone had a ridiculously busy schedule and never responded. With how things are, I can only imagine how rapid fire responses are now.

Grand Lodge

I had planned on uploading this earlier, but today hasn't been too great for news. It's going to a tough few months coming up for the family. I mentioned a little bit of what was discovered today, on the blog update itself. Just hoping and praying for the time being.

Unknown Encounter 9 - The Aquarian Dino Rider

I hope everyone's staying safe.

I think you're wise to play it safe with your computer. We rely on devices for too much these days.

Looking for a group online (whether voice chat or PbP) can be an absolute crapshoot. I've had plenty of experience with the second one.

In my current games things are going more or less at the normal pace, though a few players have told me they have obligations that will slow their posting rate.

If you're interested in trying PbP again, shoot me a PM. No pressure though.

Grand Lodge

I'll keep it in mind. Appreciate the offer. My regular group is looking into options to see what can be done. At least, the GM is looking to see what his dial-up countryside/boonies internet can handle.

More new art. That's always great.

Unknown Encounter 10 - The Giant Dwarves

Good lord, this thread is still going on, I'm speechless. I guess that means no Throne of Night yet.

Nicos wrote:

Sadly, no. Just what I've been releasing for everyone else.

Grand Lodge

Speaking of releases, got another one. Funny enough, while going through all the different art I came to realize that I might only have three more left. And that's me scouring the internet for the art. The rest is just going to be monsters straight out of the bestiary. At most, maybe the Advanced +1 CR template. That fills me with a sense of dread and relief.

Encounter 5 - Theory Build Mushroom Alchemist Ally, Book 1

Gary didn't give this guy stats, but did put down the alignment and class (and levels), so I expanded upon that.

Grand Lodge

I mentioned this in my update, but my family finally got some good news, and let's be honest, we needed it. If you're curious, give it a read. I mentioned it in the first part before going to the encounter stats.

Unknown Encounter 11 - The Ghostly Dwarf Guard

Unless something major changes, I've only got two, maybe three, builds left. I've searched and searched and searched for more art, but I've come up empty. The one I really wanted was the deeper dragon. At first I thought it was the magma dragon, but then I found an old update that mentioned it and a dragon egg during Book 4. I guarantee you that Gary meant for the PCs to steal the egg and drop it off in the enemy camp of demons and fiendish drow, and have the magma dragon do some serious damage to them while the PCs and the regular drow take advantage and deal some significant damage.

I hope everyone's doing well, and staying safe.

Grand Lodge

I emailed Michael Clarke. I’m hoping to get more art from him. Would love to showcase it on Pinterest. Also wanting to do more builds. Realized a few pics I found by him have absolutely nothing to do with this AP whatsoever. Still, they look hella cool.

Grand Lodge

Hope everyone's doing well. After today, I only have 5 more. I counted. Short of Michael messaging me and sending me more art, I'll have nothing left. I can't imagine anything else being more than just plain monster entries that are straight out of the bestiary. I just can't.

I don't know if it'll work or not, but found out my MegaUpload account is shut down, so I got a DropBox. Reason being, I was essentially the only person who split the first book's pdf and made a Player's Guide. I've since shrunk it down from the original 19 MB it was to a mere 3 MB.

If someone could let me know if the link works, and it's downloadable, it'd be appreciated.

Throne of Night - Player's Guide

I wanna make it available to everyone. If I find out it works, I'll copy it over to the Book 1 page.

Download worked fine for me Thanks for continuing the great work!

As it so happened, my ToN group played yesterday and we are slowly moving towards ending the first book. Homebrewed a lot of stuff, and the route my players took it seems like they might not go to Vothys at all but rather focus on helping the Xan and Xan-Zara to contain the awakening essence of Z'ggu that has slowly started corrupting the Xan, leading to sorcerers and bloodragers awakening and going crazy. My players seem to like the weird duality and mystery of the Xan's worship of these two "deities" (haven't found out more yet).

I will definitely keep looking towards this thread for future inspiration.

So tonight's entry wasn't expected. Funny how your brain works when you read that PCs will have two exact encounters, but one is just slightly different and more different than the first.

Unknown Encounter 13 - The Appraisal Golems

The second isn't really a build, but more a quick rundown of what slight changes to make and add. Nothing major. Then how things should go after you're done with the secret entrance golem.

In total, I used three art pieces for this. That's the most of Michael Clarke's art I've added to a blog entry, to date.

kevin_video, do you have a Patreon? Or if you were to publish your own notes via kickstarter, I would be glad to pledge.

GM SuperTumbler wrote:

No, I just have a Ko-Fi (link on my profile page), after it was suggested I should make something for those who want to support me. As for Kickstarter or anything else, it was made very clear that even if was me doing it, that the trust just isn’t there. Too many people got burned, they’re hurt, and even just the title of the AP gives them Nam flashbacks. Kickstarter and Patreon aren’t guarantees that they’ll get what they pay for. And I absolutely get that. So Ko-Fi seemed the best way. Pay what you want to, or don’t want to. If you’re happy with it, maybe buy another coffee. I liken it to a “pay what you want” PDF.

So everything I’ve posted is publicly available on my blog, under the “Changes to Throne of Night” tab at the top, whether it’s these builds using the pictures already posted online (and I made sure to grab as many as I could on my Pinterest), or the AD&D adventure I had found and I converted to PF1e so people could finish their game with peace of mind. Granted, the latter won’t be as satisfying as taking down a star spawn of Cthulhu at level 20, but it still gives you a very solid ending.

Grand Lodge

So I had an update for today, but then my computer crashed, and crashed hard. I lost all the work I’d done. Turns out my computer decided to have a stroke because it needed to install some updates. I’m definitely not even close to feeling like uploading anything now. My fault though. I should know better than to type everything out on Tumblr without saving to Draft every five seconds on a 7-year old computer that’s essentially held together with rubber bands at this point.

At least the computer is at 30% installation for updates.

Wanted to post something as I have a very important doctor’s appointment tomorrow that might get in the way. Guess it just wasn’t meant to be.

Maybe it’s because the update was filled with a little too much pride, I don’t know. I’ll post something later. Whenever later is.

Everyone stay healthy and safe.

Grand Lodge

I honestly didn't know if I'd be posting today after my doctor's appointment this morning. I was only mildly inconvenienced by a mere 8-9 hours. Hopefully in two weeks I'll receive good news regarding what's wrong with this body. After getting some sleep, I think I've finally regained all the blood they took from me this morning. Seriously, even the person taking it was surprised by the number of vials needed.

Got a new build, but unfortunately no new art this time. Last night's post is definitely lost and I still haven't gotten myself to try again. So tonight's post is not the same as last night's. Eventually I'll get to it again. Apparently my computer had no issue in behaving tonight. That's definitely something.

As I mentioned in the update, this encounter could be either super deadly or stupid easy. All depends on the party's build.

I was on my phone before when replying, @GMSuperTumblr, but here's a direct link to my Ko-Fi page. And for anyone else interested. Enough people have asked for me to set something up so that they could support me, that it seemed like a good idea to do so. There's no pressure or obligation though.

Unknown Encounter 13 - Intellect Stalkers

And as always, everyone stay healthy and safe. Remember to wash those hands.

Grand Lodge

I looked it up. I have four of these left. Two of which I’ve already written up, as of this morning. That means there’s only two I have to work on and complete. One of those is going to take at least a couple of days for me to figure out what I’m going to. The other might take me 1-2 hours, at best. However, that one I don’t actually have art for, so I reached out. Haven’t heard back yet though.

Grand Lodge

Wow. I must have been dumb tired when I did this post. It says "13", but was supposed to be "14". Whoops. Changing it now. Too bad you can't edit your own posts after X hours. Oh well. Better late than never.

kevin_video wrote:
Unknown Encounter 14 - Intellect Stalkers

And an update regarding the other post. I have now completed three of the four builds. So they're ready to go any time, but I'll still stagger them so I still have something to post over the next week. I'm really hoping to find some new art for the specific one I want to leave until last, but I realize how unlikely that is. Might really be a generic stock photo at this point. I'll still look for something cool though.

Grand Lodge

This one took some time as, holy moly, I found some old notes from back when Gary first wrote up the updates on Book 3, and I had to immediately revise my old build for the dwarf king. He was supposed to have dragon blood in him. He's considered a "deathless dragon king". Whoops. So I had to adjust a number of things, especially feats, because a complete rebuild was out of the question. Not to mention the fact that even thought I spent an hour trying to do that, it just wouldn't fit the CR he'd honestly need to be. So swapping feats was had. Also, swapping a couple of the dwarven traits as he's supposed to the equivalent to an elder dwarf. So he's fixed now. And reading the story, he's supposed to be meet up with a deep dragon and have lots of kids together, as that aspect of Book 3 is fighting a lot of dwarf half-dragons, mutant dwarves, and other variants of dwarven monstrosities (ie. the fire giant dwarves I posted prior). Very interesting.

So because I was revising the build, that dictated what the next released build would be. And I'm not lying when I say that was definitely not the intention. Just a matter of circumstance.

While the thought of radiation being the black/dark fire or someone having access to the not-OGL blackfire/darkfire adept prestige class, was thrown around, my theory build is based solely around the fire being hellfire.

I'm going to share both the old build that's newly revised, and the new build. Unfortunately, no picture by Michael Clarke, but I did use the official art from Bestiary 6, and put it alongside the black fire immolation picture that Michael did. If I ever get a picture of the deep dragon, I'll replace the stock photo with that instead.

Encounter 4 - Deathless Golem Wielder and Cannon Golem

Encounter 6 - Deep Dragon Queen

(Encounter 5 was the myceloid build from Book 1)

Hope everyone's staying healthy and safe. All the best to everyone.

And anyone who missed it in a previous post, yes, I do actually have a Ko-Fi page. I made it look pretty and everything.

Grand Lodge

Posted this on the Kickstarter comments, and wanted to share it here too.

On November 14, 2014, the update said:

“We are going to begin shipping out the first round hard copy books (likely Book One and Book Two shipped together) right after the PDF release of Book Three, which will be in December.”

There are other updates that discuss how Book 3 was ‘so close to being released’. It’s actually quite aggravating. I would hate for it to actually be done, but never released to us out of fear or something else. It grates on my heart and mind.

Since it's now gone due to the website being dead, one of the backers shared the underground sea's entire map. It's shrunk down considerably though.

Grand Lodge

I don't know if anyone would be at all interested, but if you are, let me know, but after yesterday's post regarding the dwarf dragon king and his dragon queen, and reading up on the fact that they rule over a kingdom of corrupted mutant dwarves and their half dragon children, I was debating on doing up their stat blocks. If there's no interest then that's cool. I won't worry about it and just put down the short hand notes that I jotted down and that'll be it.

Barring the above possibility, I've got three builds left to share, and two of them are already completed. Probably post one tomorrow. Wanna try space them out some.

Just for reference, these are what they'd be:

Eldest dwarf son (The First Son)
Youngest dwarf son (mutated mixed blood)
Dwarf Brothers (triplets)
Eldest dwarf daughter (The Prodigy)
Middle child, dwarf daughter (The Tomboy)
Youngest dwarf daughter (The Studied)

All other dwarves living in the city would be the mutants described in the synopsis (Mutant template)

Note that the anyone with access to magus and sorcerer/wizard spells would get the Hellfire spell from Way of the Wicked.

Again, this is if anyone wants them. If not, I'll just drop the levels everyone would have, and wouldn't go any further than that.

Finished the last build tonight. Will start releasing the final three next week. And depending on what's decided, that could be the absolute last of anything Throne of Night.

I thought something was wrong with the dwarf encounters and I finally figured out what; there's no mithril. This seems really important considering that one of Dammerhalls main sources of pride was its mythril and its discovery of making gunzarak (true mithral).

It seems like the dwarf High King should have weapons and armor made of gunzarak. Maybe a unique golem made out of it, if not the cannon golem. This is an easy fix, there's a weapon on page 80 of The Earth’s Wound, The Axe of Horath Rocknose, that describes the properties of gunzarak.

The main problem with mithral is wealth. When everything is mithral, you start to drastically change the wealth table. This automatically increases the CR for both NPCs and monsters alike. That said, the encounters all seem to happen in the city, not the actual castle. At least that’s how I’m reading the lore. The black flames came, the ghosts rose, and everyone was trapped within the mountain.

While not the giant dwarves, the high king and his dragon queen do have mithral crowns. I wanted them to have at least that much.

You’re definitely right it wouldn’t take much to change it, but you’d definitely have to increase CR by +1 for having greater wealth than NPC of that level, and the cannon golem should take on properties of the mithral golem, also increasing the CR.

Edit: I guess I’ll add that maybe you’re not supposed to fight the golem with the king, or the queen and king together. This would change the encounter level considerably, allowing the wealth increase, and even allowing the high king to add an additional hit due level.

Edit 2: Lookng at the picture of what can only be assumed the high king, he’s wearing black armor. Could be argued to be adamantine. Maybe. Or that’s the colour of true mithral. Been a while since I read that book thoroughly.

RE: Gunzarak.

Finally at my computer and look at it properly. Can someone else figure out the math because I'm completely lost??? The axe in question (on page 80) costs 27,320 to sell, but 13,660 to make. The axe is also 6 lbs.

Breakdown:
Mithral is 500 gp/lb. = 3000 gp.
Adamantine is +3000 gp for a weapon.
A +3 weapon enhancement is 18,000 gp.
A masterwork greataxe is 320 gp.

That's 24,320 gp. Where's the other 3000 gp coming from?

Let's go cost to make:
A +3 weapon enhancement is now 9000 gp.
Adamantine greataxe is still 3320.
That leaves 1660 gp, but the mithral cost is still 3000 gp.

So either it's too expensive or it's not expensive enough.

That is a huge error.

I really wish he'd added it somewhere because I'm wondering if gunzarak is worth 1500 gp/lb. That's the only thing that would make sense, but that'd be ludicrous. Even with the new Pathfinder 1.5 books, where companies have broken down adamantine like mithral per lb., it's only worth 750 gp/lb. Combining the two is at most, 1250 gp/lb. And that's just for a weapon based on the final market selling price. What's armor like?

My brain isn't able to keep up.

I skimmed the books and from what I could tell gunzarak is just mithril. It was some sort of new metallurgy that Dammerhall discovered.

Quote: They could create an alloy that was lighter than aluminum, stronger than adamantine, as perfect a metal as this world has ever known. This was gunzarak (in dwarvish lit. the true gift of the earth) or “true mithral”.

Even the construction requirements for the axe on page 80 specifically stated that: creator must know the secret of working true mithral. meaning it was likely going to be discovered by the party at some point.

Also, the cost of a masterwork item is already included in the cost of a magic item.

So three levels of enchantments on a 6 lb greataxe made of mithril comes out to 21,020 gp to buy‬ and 12,020 to crat.

That comes out to 6,300‬ gp missing in the cost to buy it and 1,640 gp missing to craft it.

I can't think of any explanation for the crafting process that would affect the cost to make the math make sense.

Edit: I forgot that an item made from mithral weighs half as much as the same item made from other metals and a greataxe is 12 lb. The math still doesn't make sense.

Grand Lodge

Kobolum wrote:
Also, the cost of a masterwork item is already included in the cost of a magic item.

That is incorrect. What you mean to say, and it's where I made my mistake, is the cost of a masterwork items is already included in the cost of adamantine and mithral. A +1 dagger is not 2002 gp, it's 2302. As well, the cost of special materials don't get divided by 2 when figuring out the final cost. An adamantine greataxe is 3020 whether you craft it yourself or sell it on the open market, just as a mithral dagger is always 502 gold.

However, what I should have done was divided the final difference, and re-read mithral. The cost is based on the original weight, not the new weight. So it's still 12 lbs. It just ends up being 6 lbs.

Again starting with 27,320. A +3 weapon is 18k and a greataxe is 20 gp. That leaves 9300 gp. Divide that by 12 lbs and we have 775 gp/lb.

Another quote that can be added would be from the axe itself:
"It counts as both being made of adamantine while possessing the weight reduction of mithral. For the purpose of damage reduction it is considered as both an adamantine, silver and magic weapon."

And to be honest, I'd much rather pay 777 gp for a true mithral dagger that works as both silver and adamantine than the ridiculous 3002 gp for an adamantine dagger. That math never made sense to me. I'm glad PF 1.5 and PF2 changed that stupidity.

Now, it would have to peak for armor, otherwise it'd just be too expensive. I'm also curious about armor having DR. Or even, if you can even make it into armor. Is it like cold iron and can only be a weapon? Let's assume for a second that you can make it armor. And also shields, because adamantine shields aren't a thing.

Using some 3.5 references, namely Glassteel, light armor was 9k, medium was 16k, and heavy was 25k, with shields at 4k.

If you combine them, light and shields would be 6k, medium is 14k, and heavy is 24k. That seems expensive. Light and shields I'd leave alone at 6k, but medium I'd probably go 12k and heavy would be 20k. That's adamantine DR and hardness with mithral maneuverability. I'd be willing to 6k for a mithral shirt equivalent that lets me have a Dex of 22, no armor check penalty, lowered arcane spell failure, and DR 1/-. Plus a lowered weight, hardness 20, and 40 hp per inch of thickness? Yes, please. Not that dwarves care, but drow would be all over that.

However, if it didn't have the DR that adamantine does (I almost don't want to believe that it wouldn't), but does have the hardness and extra armor hp, then a fair price would be 3.0's original adamantine prices of 2k, 5k, and 10k.

EDIT: For those who don't know, there's celestial mithral, but it can't be made into armor. Like cold iron, you pay an extra fee the first time you enchant it.

It's 6 AM. I should be in bed, but I'm not. I'm fighting a cold, and got a screwed up sleep schedule instead. Anyhoo, it's time for another build.

Also, new art. Yay.

A couple of points for you fevered mind to consider:

1. It is always possible the original author made an error with the calculation of the source item and that would never make your calculations correct. Since the original author is not talking to anyone, it will be difficult to confirm this theory.

2. If the new metal gives both the properties of mithril and adamantine, I have a hard time swallowing that it costs less to create than the more expensive of the two by itself. Economics and game balance require it to be more expensive and possibly prohibitively so.
I recommend you update the information to include the assumption in 1 above and recalculate. I further recommend the magic item supplementation rule for multiple effects on the same item (multiply the additional property by 1.5.
Conversely, if you restrict the combination of the materials to only weapons, that makes a little sense since the two combined on a weapon do not make for much of a mechanical edge. Sure, lycanthropes should beware, but at these levels, they likely have the ability to enchant to the level it is covered by magic anyway (a rule that personally frustrates me, but c'est la vie).

3. If the two points above are correct and or implemented, then do not worry about the CR calculation for the final battle to get access to such treasure, it should be more difficult to obtain as it is literally a game changer. There is plenty of third party material that break the wealth by level rule. It is okay. You can even list a disclaimer about the need for such a break in the "rule".

I actually forwarded my calculations to another game designer, and am hoping to hear from him soon.

I will say though, that technically speaking, the gunzarak is not cheaper than adamantine. 3.5e and PF 1e having it be that adamantine weapons are a flat +3k is ridiculous. A fairy's dagger and a titan's greataxe should not both be a paltry 3,000 gold extra. Even a medium-sized spear is +3000, and that's just the spear head itself. That's crazy. Thankfully, PF 2e, and various 3PP who have done their own version of PF 1.5, have changed this. I particularly like Purple Duck Games and their having it be +750 gp for a light weapon, +1500 for one-handed, and +3000 for a two-handed. Anything larger or smaller than that, will have an additional multiplier or divider. So having it be +775 gp per pound seems right for weapons. The armor I did make more expensive.

I do disagree with the idea of having it count as two metals increasing the price 1.5 like magic items with numerous properties. If that was the case, cryptstone wouldn't only be +500 gp. That materials are always considered materwork, deals +1 damage to undead (multiplied on a crit), counts as magical to hit incorporeal undead, and weapons with disruption gain +1 to the DC.

Definitely agree that some 3PP materials are ridiculously priced, and that even NPCs who have artifacts on their person don't necessarily have the +1 CR bonus added. I should make the change to the high king. The giant dwarves I could probably get away with too as they are large sized weapons, so it'll be harder to carry or sell. I'll wait to hear back from my fellow designer on how I should proceed, likely do an entry on it, and then revise those two entries. Might even revise the ghost dwarf. Then I'll post some kind of sidebar to explain things.

Grand Lodge

It's almost 6 AM again. Ugh. My sleeping schedule's completely garbage now. I should be in bed, but I'm not. Still fighting that cold too. Bah. Got another build though, and it's also that lost update that I had originally wanted to post last week. Finally got to it and the computer didn't crash or anything. I finally feel free of that entry. I'm not longer haunted by it.

Unknown Encounter 16 - Strange Sea Merchants

And as I said in the entry, there's a strange sense of vindication and pride with this one from way back during the times of "Way of the Wicked", even if it's just a coincidence.

And New Art, again. Whoo-hoo!

There's just one entry left, and it's a bonus entry to boot. At least until I hear back from my fellow designers. Then there's likely one final, final quick post.

New Art, but this wasn't really meant to be part of the adventure path. Still, I love seeing new art by Michael Clarke.

Here's what is likely the last build for Throne of Night.

Extra Encounter 2 - The Aquatic Drow and Companion

And because over the years I've revised stuff and may have even changed a few titles, not to mention Tumblr having changed the site themselves, there's a chance that some of the links are broken. As such, here's a link that'll take you to all five pages worth of builds, changes, items, added monsters, the revised adventure module, and any other extras for Throne of Night I made note of on my blog.

My Changes to Throne of Night

That doesn't even include everything I posted on this thread over the past six years. Good lord, six years? Possibly even seven. It's honest all a blur now.

I posted a fairly "final" word of thanks at the end, but I'm going to extend it here as well, and add a bit more just for everyone that's Paizo forum specific.

If I do any other builds, it’ll be because I had some kind of epiphany and was asked to put them out there. Other than that, it’s been made pretty clear by people not part of this Kickstarter that I drop it and let the Paizo thread die into obscurity.

Some have said they're tired of seeing the thread still pop up from time to time in the perview, and that we should put it all behind us and accept that the AP will never be completed by the author. And that's fine. Unfortunate, but fine. But honestly it was never about that. It was about closure. And more to the point, my OCD wasn't going to let this go until I, myself, had done enough that I could finally get my own form of closure so I could put this behind me. There's still one more thing left to do, but I'm not going to worry about until I feel absolutely confident in posting. Hopefully by the end of the month. That's my projected date. I'd like it to be sooner, but we'll see.

And that's about it. None of these builds or posts were necessary to do, but the pictures were there, and my psyche went, "you can totally do this." So I did.

Thanks for coming with me on this journey, everyone. Like I said, one more post, and that'll likely be it.

Still have to go back and make sure I added everything up correctly. What I've been finding is I keep forgetting to do CMD properly. Almost always forget to add dodge bonuses. Already gone back and fixed a few that I missed, but I haven't checked all of them. As well, gotta format some and make them look pretty. I know there's enough of those to deal with.

Finally, you guys likely don't actually care to see my do up all of the individual builds that I came up with, after reading the synopsis of Book 3 discussing the half-dragons and mutants, so I'll just leave this here:

Dwarves of the Underground City:
Children need access to hellfire spell
magus 3, sorcerer/wizard 4, summoner 3, witch 4

Dwarf children are a mix of a half (magma or underworld) dragon dwarf and infernal deep dragon.

Eldest dwarf son (The First Son) - "magma" (red) dragon bloodline sorcerer 7/dragon disciple 7 (CR 13)

Youngest dwarf son (mutation) - (crag) linnorm sorcerer with mutant template (wings, light blindness) 13 (CR 13)

Dwarf Brothers (triplets) - half-dragon template fighter 9 (CR 10; EL 13)

Eldest dwarf daughter (The Prodigy) - red dragon bloodline eldritch scion magus 12 (CR 11)

Middle child, dwarf daughter (The Tomboy) - red dragon bloodline bloodrager 12 (CR 11)

Middle child, dwarf son (The Cursed Spellbinder) - dwarf witch with Eldritch bloodline feats 13 (CR 12)

Youngest dwarf daughter (The Studied) - red dragon bloodline arcanist 11 (CR 10)

All other dwarves living in the city are standard dwarves who were granted powers (mutants) - Mutant template (Bestiary 5) +1 CR (all grouped by different mutations and weaknesses); 5-7 levels of fighter, rogue, monk, oracle of flame, adept, expert, or warrior (CR 5 each)
Note: some may be given the Giant Simple Template as well.

I posted this three years ago, and during that time Raging Swan Press has done a complete revision of their site. As such, the link is very broken. Fixed it though. Might have to add this to my blog as I did make three aboleth encounters for Book 5.

While this project is considered dead now (14+ months of no communication dictates that it's considered dead by most publishers, editors, gaming companies, etc), and there's actual good reason to post anything on this thread, Raging Swan Press released something that could still be relevant to those who might be doing their own thing, or are ever going to have the PCs face off against aboleths.

This is a 2016 post, and I just wanted to say Michael, if you're reading this, I still very much want that art book. For the love of all that is holy and good, please release it! Don't care if it's pdf or print, or the option of both. And like it shows in my blog posts, I still cheer for you. Your art is so killer. Will always be in awe.

SpiralMagus wrote:

Hello all, this is Michael Clarke. Up until about a month ago I was the staff illustrator / visual design guy at Fire Mountain Games. As some folks have found out (and I also told kevin_video about this, to relay info to the Kickstarter comments page), I was laid off from my position at FMG. The reason given was that there is no more work for me to do. I understand that this news would cause some degree of alarm in backers and others following this project, so I wanted to share my assessment of where it stands.

To give you an idea of the amount of artwork that was done for Throne of Night, I counted roughly 180 color illustrations (many of the recent ones being full-pagers), and 52 maps. In my estimation, Gary has plenty of art with which to complete the entire 6-book path (+ the Kickstarter bonus adventure) and publish it.

The big question of course is the status of the writing, and unfortunately I don't know where that stands or what kind of timeline Gary has for it. It will be up to him to update people about the future of the project and I've encouraged him multiple times to do so. He did tell me that he still intends to fulfill the Kickstarter.

I really hope it does see release, because I'd be hugely disappointed if all that work never got to be used at the game table.

At the very least, I will be able to publish art prints of my FMG work, as Gary has generously granted me rights for that. I can't use it for a gaming product but for art prints or art books I've been given the okay.

I want to say thanks to anyone who had good things to say about the art I made for FMG. Especially kevin_video - who has always cheered me on the most. It really meant a lot, and has often kept my spirits up. The situation with the delay was not anything I had control over, so it got demoralizing at times.

Anyway, that's about all I wanted to share at the moment. I'm now launching into doing freelance illustration full-time, so hopefully I'll be getting some art into some other 3rd-party books and maybe even Paizo's books at some point! I would love to do some Starfinder art.

- Michael D. Clarke (SpiralMagus)

PS... Yes, my Shemhazian has less eyes than the Paizo one - just putting my own spin on it based on the text description, which doesn't mention the number of eyes at all. Anyway, thanks for the positive words - glad you guys like it! :)

Personally, I love seeing this thread pop up. I hope Gary has seen it not die for all these years.

All the same, great work and you've managed to provide a sense of closure- something the original creator failed to do.

I like seeing this thread pop up as well, and really like it when other people post on here. Gets lonely posting stuff all by myself.

I still want to post from time to time, especially when I have something concrete for the "final" entry, as well as the monsters and their art. I don't know. I don't want to ruffle the feathers any more than they are. That said, Paizo's forums are kind of dying off, especially with COVID, so maybe these people will look the other way for a while. Either way, won't be overdoing things and will spam the page less.

And thanks. It's been a long road and lots of time invested. Still investing time, and brought in other people with me for a bit, but they know what's happening, and feel bad for all of us. We definitely could all use the closure. It's unfortunate that I'm the one who's bringing it, but it's definitely made me a better designer and writer.

The irony is it was Gary who inspired me and pushed me to accept my first offered writing job. I only gain the confidence to do it because he acknowledged my original work back during my "fixes" to Way of the Wicked, which he admitted he loved and would add to his own home games. Years later, I'm doing a whole series of theory builds for the AP that never got finished. I never could have seen that coming.

Good Evening Sir Video,

Allow me to say once again how much I appreciate you keeping the thread going. While I enjoy (and plan on stealing) the encounters that you post, I was curious as to whether yourself (or others on the board) have been able to find any substitute maps for Dammerhall itself? I've seen some mention Milby's Maps; THE DWARVEN CITY OF BRAZENTHRONE, which while beautiful maps of a dwarven city, just don't quite give me the whole "ruined dwarven city" vibe. I've tried my hand at photoshopping some of the city maps from "Lion's Vault" adventure by 2CGaming, however, I was just curious as to whether yourself or anyone else might have some advice on other sources that might be more in line with the setting? Thank you again for your continuing efforts.

Quite welcome. We’re all in this together afterall. And, yes please, use whatever you please.

As for a map... Yes? Kind of? As a former VL for PFS, I got to see pretty much every adventure, as being the only GM for almost a year will do that. Also, you get access to pretty much every adventure. It was nice. One of the adventures I got to thumb through was 6-00 Legacy of the Stonelords. If you can get your hands on that, at least battlemap wise, you’ll be fine. However, for a sort of world view version of the area, Fantasy Grounds was kind enough to draw up that kind of map. You’ll have to scroll down to find it.

While I only added a few monsters to it, I got added to the additional credit section.

Purple Duck Games, after officially releasing their Pathfinder 1.5 Core book, has now released their new bestiary made entirely for their new update system.

Happy to have this released. Now I can finally update my profile page. XD

Stupid question: did you put together a stat block for the templated Star Spawn? Or just the templates?

I feel like the final boss should be more than a creature out of the bestiary plus some templates, but that's just me.

Regardless, the work you've done is deeply inspiring to me as designer. I love seeing high level stat blocks.
